CLIMB IN ELEVATION TO MOUNT ST. HELENS

As we climb in elevation, watch as the lush green slowly fades into the “Blast Zone,” where the forest is gradually rebuilding from the devastation caused by this powerful eruption. View the mountain from several different angles and perspectives with carefully chosen stops along the way.

VIEW VOLCANIC VANTAGE POINTS

Then we continue up the mountain to Coldwater Lake, a glacier-fed lake created when mud flows from the eruption made a natural dam. After our spectacular view of the mountain, enjoy an included local lunch before we continue to our final vantage point.

AWE-INSPIRING FINAL VANTAGE POINT

Johnston Ridge Observatory is the closest stop to the awe-inspiring Mount St. Helens crater, which is only 5 miles away. Johnston Ridge is named after the intrepid volcanologist who lost his life the day of the explosion just after his historic live report back to his base, “Vancouver, Vancouver, this is it!”
