E.E. BASS CULTURAL ARTS CENTER
The E.E. Bass Cultural Arts Center is home to the steam-powered Armitage Herschell Carousel, which was constructed in 1901. Since Mississippi at that time was still legally segregated, many people approached the owner about having separate nights for carousel rides. However, the owner refused, as he wished for everyone to ride together.

Built in 1907, this fine Gothic Revival Church was designed and financed by Father P.J. Korstenbroek, who served at the church for 33 years and was memorialized in William Alexander Percy’s, Lanterns on the Levee. Many of the stained-glass windows came from the Munich studios of Emil Frei.

HIGHLIGHTS
PREPARE FOR A JOURNEY TO INDIANOLA
Join us on a journey to Indianola, Mississippi, the hometown of legendary blues artist, B.B. King. Indianola captures the essence of the blues and exposes a charmingly simplistic way of life so unique to the Delta region. Each rugged brick used to support this small town has been saturated to its core with the gritty, unrefined soul of the blues.
On arrival, gospel music fills the air as a live performance by local musicians is held exclusively for American Queen Voyages guests. A guided tour of the museum begins as a heartwarming documentary tells the story of B.B.’s childhood and early beginnings.
TRAVEL BACK IN TIME
Weave through the chronological exhibits throughout the museum as they twist and wind through the musical journey of King. From his humble beginnings as a child working on a small farm, to a determined young man with a guitar and a dream, to an international icon, King has cemented his place in musical history.
TASTE AND FEEL THE BLUES
After discovering the life of King, you will visit Club Ebony, an iconic night club built at the end of World War II in 1948. Here, local blues performers will entertain with rousing musical prowess while you enjoy some quintessential southern snacks.
