INTRODUCING THE NEW
River Coaches
The American Queen Shore Excursions teamed together with the engineering departments of Van Hool Engineering Company, ABC Bus Companies, and Easton Coach Company to create innovative and completely customized River Coaches, nicknamed “River Coaches” for their steamboat-like exterior designs. Based on several years’ worth of customer feedback, which were gathered through guest satisfaction surveys and suggestions, our team has crafted a vehicle unlike any other in the world. We have begun adding these state-of-the-art River Coaches to our American Queen fleet for 2018, and will continue upgrading our entire vessel fleet over the next few years.
A CLOSER LOOK Second door access features mid-coach entry with wider and deeper steps that provide a more convenient, more efficient, and safer entrance. Skylights spanning the length of the coach offer a panoramic view of all surroundings during a tour, allowing for a full-immersion experience. Lower, less obtrusive seatbacks allow guests to have clearer views, while also providing a more spacious feel. Restroom is located in the rear, rather than in the stairwell, so that unlike other mid-entry coaches, guests will have better, safer access to the facilities. Handicapped lifts in the rear of the coach, which allows the American Queen Shore Excursions fleet to remain 100% accessible! GPS and mobile cameras allow our staff to track River Coach arrival times in live-time. Three rows of specially embroidered and upholstered seats to better designate special seating for guests with mobility challenges. Specially designed overhead racks are contoured in a way to allow for more visibility from the side windows, as well as, the above skylights. Onboard Wifi, so guests can stay connected at all times. Folding “jump seat” for tour guides allows for better access to the entrance door, to assist guests off the coach, while adding a seat for a guest. Wireless microphones allow guides to get on and off the coach more efficiently to help guests on tours.
7
HOW TO “HOP-ON HOP-OFF YOUR NEW RIVER COACH Guests utilizing wheelchairs or scooters, please speak to a Shore Excursion Specialist or a driver, who will help you onboard with our motorized River Coach Window. Mobility Impaired guests should make their way to the front of the River Coach, rather than the back, and reside in specially reserved seats, so our staff can assist if needed.
TO BOARD: We kindly ask guests to board the River Coach in the center entrance. This entrance will be opened on a delay after guests exit via the front door.
TO EXIT: To exit the River Coach, we ask guests to make their way to the front exit, in an orderly manner, aisle by aisle. For safety, no guest should exit the center door.
Mobility Impaired Guests:
When departing the River Coaches, we kindly request that you remain safely seated until all of the guests have exited so that we can assist you off the coach. Disclaimer: We are not responsible for personal belongings left on the River Coach. All of our River Coaches are equipped with a lift for ADA accessibility. For your own safety, we highly encourage guests with scooters to transfer to a River Coach seat.

American Queen Shore Excursions is proud to contribute to the growth of small American towns. Unlike other cruiselines, we do not partner with local businesses for commission or kickbacks. Our support and suggestions are purely to benefit the local businesses and local economies. These authentic American towns do not often feature the ritzy shops and cafés frequently visited on European river cruises. Instead, local, hardworking business owners present their piece of the American dream in towns whose glory days are long gone, but their spirits remain. Please remember that these independently owned businesses that create their own hours to fit their schedules and may not always be open during their advertised times. When possible, we include stops near local pharmacies, so our guests can refill prescriptions or purchase any necessary supplies. Thank you for supporting these local towns by taking advantage of the unique shopping opportunities. DAILY SHOPPING OPPORTUNITIES

Grafton, Illinois (St. Louis, Missouri) Pre-Cruise Am erican Select P r em i u m Exc u rs i o n Grafton is the oldest city in Jersey County and its history is openly depicted in every rustic home, hometown hospitality, and architectural structure lining the streets of the town. Officially founded in 1836, Grafton’s prime location on the river necessitated a boat construction industry. Limestone helped contribute to Grafton’s growth as quarries were one of the richest and most extensive of the town’s resources. St. Louis even uses the limestone from Grafton in the Old Cathedral and the Eads Bridge.

Hannibal, Missouri
Hannibal, Missouri has a rich history, diverse industrial economy, and truly remarkable arts. The city was founded in 1819 by Moses D. Bates and became a popular stop along the river for many steamboats traveling up the Mississippi River. Hannibal offers more parks per citizens than most towns in the Midwest and was included in the famous “50 Miles of Art.” Today, the most popular draw of this quirky town is Hannibal’s very own, Samuel Langhorne Clemens, recognized world-wide as Mark Twain. Many of the popular characters featured in Twain’s novels were based on people Clemens had known while growing up in Hannibal. Many of the characters and influences of this American icon are weaved into the streets, shops, restaurants, and museums of Hannibal waiting to be uncovered.

La Crosse, Wisconsin
Named by explorer Zebulon Pike who saw a group of people playing a game with sticks that looked like a cross, La Crosse is now a tourist stop. Filled with statues, architecture, and an exquisite view of the river, this river city is an artist’s dream. Like much of Wisconsin, La Crosse became heavily involved with the lumber industry in the mid-1800s until the decline of the forests throughout much of Wisconsin took its toll. But in the wake of the vanishing lumber era, La Crosse became a city renowned for its beer making, with around five breweries operating in La Crosse near the turn of the century. Today, make note of lingering pieces of history along the streets of the city, inside local breweries, and within the floorboards of historic homes and businesses.
