Dear American Queen Voyages Guest, We are looking forward to reigniting our passion for travel with you in the coming weeks. As we travel America’s great rivers together things may look different, sound different, and frankly, feel different. Please understand that the safety of our guests and local ports remains our top priority. You will certainly notice new processes implemented onboard to promote the health and wellbeing of our guests, but our dedication to keeping our safety as the paramount priority during your journey along America’s rivers doesn’t end there. That’s why we’ve implemented new SafeCruise initiatives. In the past year, we have all witnessed the world endure ever-evolving circumstances and new regulations. Both the big cities, and small towns have had to adjust to the “new normal” introduced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, we have faced an unparalleled level of uncertainty. Today, we would like you to know for certain, that no matter the circumstances, our shore excursions team will work diligently to provide the highest standards of safety during your on-land exploration, and strive to provide the following experiences as advertised. However, the nature of the pandemic and safety regulations continue to vary from state to state, county to county, and day to day. With that in mind, we want you to join us with accurate and realistic expectations. Due to the evolving nature of COVID-19 and the varying intensities of regulations between counties, you may notice slight modifications to prebooked shore excursions. Please know that our team is hard at work to provide the best possible experiences on land, but some restrictions are beyond our control and may result in alterations to onshore programming. If such changes should occur to any of your excursions, you can be sure that our team’s first priority will be to provide an alternative attraction of equal value, both financially and experientially. Any itinerary changes will be communicated with you in advance. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time. Let’s embrace American river cruising like never before. Let’s stay close and go far — together.

Sending well wishes, James J. Palmeri Executive Vice President of Shore Excursions

The walls line the riverbanks of the Ohio River. The murals portray images of Paducah and the river basin’s history, creating a nice backdrop for the city where flooding once was prevalent. (Mural books are sold at Yeiser Art Center at 2nd & Broad.)

LLOYD TILGHMAN HOUSE This historic Greek Revival house was built in 1852 for Lloyd Tilghman. After the house was completed, Tilghman did not purchase the property. Instead, the builder, Robert Woolfolk became the sole owner of the house and grounds. Tilghman, his wife, their seven children, and five slaves resided in the home until 1861. It was then that Woolfolk and his family moved into the home. Their family was pro-South and proudly flew a Confederate flag causing many uproars in the community. Eventually, Woolfolk and his family were banished from Paducah and the United States, forced to live in Canada on August 1, 1864.

PADUCAH RAILROAD MUSEUM The original Freight House (across the parking lot from the Museum) was built in 1925 by the Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis Railway. In 1996, the Freight House was sold and the Museum moved to a building one-half block away. Here, learn the history of the railroad and those who used it, explore the authentic train models, and enjoy the memorabilia showcased for guests.

RIVER DISCOVERY CENTER

In 1988, Mayor Gerry Montgomery and her committee pursued the development of a museum to showcase the Four Rivers Region’s maritime heritage. The River Discovery Center is that dream realized. Today, guests can explore artifacts, exhibits, and interactive displays that share the history of marine life and the history of the river.

DECATUR

INCLUDED HOP-ON HOP-OFF TOUR

Remember! Your vacation, your choices. Visit as many or few of the included attractions in Decatur listed below at no cost. View the largest concentration of Victorian era homes in Alabama or visit the genealogical archives.

OLD STATE BANK BUILDING

Built over 180 years ago, the Old State Bank in Decatur stands today as a reminder of Decatur’s rich history. Completed in 1833, the building originally housed the Tennessee Valley branch of the Bank of the State of Alabama. After the failure of the state bank, it saw many varied uses and even survived the destruction of Decatur during the Civil War. Throughout an often turbulent history, the Old Bank has stood sentinel over the growing city of Decatur and today it is preserved as a building filled with both historical and architectural significance.

HISTORIC RAILROAD DEPOT This railroad depot has stood in Decatur since 1905, and symbolizes Decatur’s railroad history which extends back to the 1830’s. Having recently undergone a major restoration, the depot now contains a museum dedicated to the original railroad. The artifacts on display include pieces of the original railroad and model trains, showcasing the history of transportation in Northern Alabama from the nineteenth century to now.

MORGAN COUNTY ARCHIVES

The Archives is home to hundreds of volumes of historical and genealogical subject matter. There are also permanent and rotating exhibits of the many artifacts and images from the Archives’ collection. Included is an exhibit about the “Scottsboro Boys,” which displays images from the 1933 trial of Haywood Patterson. Many of the books in the Archives collection are rarities that can seldom be found elsewhere, including histories of local churches, communities, and schools.

PRINCESS THEATRE

Originally built in 1887 to serve as the horse stable for the Casa Grande Hotel, the Princess was transformed into a theatre in 1919. At the beginning of the 1920’s when vaudeville was all the rage, the Princess was remodeled to host vaudeville acts and other live performances. In 1940 it was again remodeled, this time in art deco, to become, in the words of Albert Frahn, “… the South’s brightest gem.” In 1978 the Princess was rescued from demolition through its purchase by the City of Decatur. Since that time private citizens have combined forces with the city in an ongoing effort to renovate the Princess. As part of the movement to keep the Princess Theatre alive, in 1995 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

CARNEGIE VISUAL ARTS CENTER

The Carnegie Library – the historic building in which the Center is housed – was constructed in 1904 with funding from the Carnegie Foundation. Tour departure times, inclusions, prices and activity level are subject to change; please reference your ticket, the departure kiosk and the daily TV presentation for more information on your specific tour. In most cases, tours will operate in all weather conditions and refunds will not be offered for inclement weather. During local and national holidays or weekends some attractions and facilities may be operating under modified hours of operations or may not be open to the public. In such instances, American Queen shore excursions will make every effort to minimize negative impact on guests and will offer an alternative when applicable or if available. Early pre-booking is strongly encouraged. Tours are generally available 6 months prior to cruise departure and not all premium excursions are available for pre-booking online. Check with your Shore Excursion Specialist when onboard for any additional tours or changes to pre-booked tours. American Queen shore excursions has made every effort to notify guests with mobility issues of handicapped accessibility at the stops and attractions along the Hop-on Hop-off route as well as premium excursions. Because of the historic and general nature of some of the attractions, handicapped accessibility may be limited to the first floor or outside grounds only. In some instances there is no handicapped accessibility to the attractions. Complete or partial refunds will not be issued for portions of tours or attractions with accessibility limitations. Post-Cruise tours may include more than one final destination. In some instances guests will experience up to three stops to allow guests to exit the motorcoaches at a second hotel or airport. By participating in shore excursions of any kind (Included or Premium), you grant SEA Operating Company, LLC (SEA) and American Queen Voyages, and their parent entities and affiliates (Released Parties) the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce photographs and/or video images taken of you, or members of your family, for the purpose of publication, promotion, illustration, or trade, in any manner or in any medium. You therefore release the Released Parties and their legal representatives for all claims and liability relating to said images or video. Furthermore, you grant permission to use your statements that were given during an interview or guest lecture, with or without your name, for the purpose of advertising and publicity without restriction. You waive your right to any compensation. Please review American Queen’s Passenger Ticket Contract for additional terms and conditions which apply.
