HIGHLIGHTS

LEAVE THE BIG CITY BEHIND

Depart the big city and move through time as we travel the back roads of Ohio to “Amish Country.” As we approach the house of Mary Miller, we may see Amish men working their farms, roadside stands featuring fresh produce and baked goods, and the horse and buggy in lieu of cars.

ENJOY A TRADITIONAL AMISH WEDDING FEAST

When we reach the home, we will be welcomed by Mary Miller for an authentic Amish Wedding Feast. Mary is a gracious host and will be happy to answer any questions you may have about Amish Culture. Get your taste buds ready for the feast featuring chicken, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, seasonal vegetables, seven-layer salad, Amish date nut pudding, fresh bread, and of course, Amish pies!

DISCOVER THE HISTORY OF THE AMISH IN THIS SMALL TOWN

Visit End of the Commons, the oldest operating general store in Ohio. Here, we will find old clothes and many antiques on display as well as shelves of penny candy that to this day still costs only one penny. Find other oldfashioned candy, memorabilia, and snacks available throughout the store.

LEARN HOW THE AMISH OPERATE TODAY

Then at an authentic one-room Amish school house, enjoy a once-in-alifetime opportunity to receive a guided tour of the school and learn how the Amish operate it today.

The Amish are a community made up of a sect of Christian separatists. The Amish have established farms in the Geauga County area since the 19th century. Today, they carry out their faith-based traditions and way of life without the trappings and technology of the modern day. The community is well known for a “prohibition” on electricity, phones and other modern devices. However, today, some of the Amish selectively use these technologies when appropriate for work.
