The 1954 launch of the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine - the USS NAUTILUS - in Groton, Connecticut.

CONNECTICUT’S SUBMARINE CENTURY Governor Malloy has designated a year-long celebration to commemorate Groton’s centennial anniversary of the Naval Submarine Base and Submarine School. The City of Groton, the Town of Groton, the City of New London, the Town of Ledyard and numerous civic organizations and businesses have come together to celebrate our 100th anniversary as the Submarine Capital of the World. COMING SOON: THE CONNECTICUT SUBMARINE TRAIL A public art project that showcasing a fleet of 20 fiberglass submarine sculptures designed and created by regional artists. The CT Submarine Trail will be unveiled at a kick-off ceremony in the spring. The fiberglass mini subs will be showcased in the Groton 4th of July Parade, then delivered to sponsored outdoor locations for the CT Sub Trail from July through October.
