SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES Beginning May 27 Sanctuary, 9AM

Chapel, 8AM

The Chapel affords an intimate and acoustically exceptional worship experience. Seating is close to the pastors and musicians, and the 360 degree “Light of the Universe” stained glass surrounds the building.

The Sanctuary offers a soaring ceiling and worship through traditional elements of organ and choir. The largest building at VPC houses children and the elderly, long-time members and first-time visitors, those who were raised with organ and classical music, and those who are drawn to the presence of God.

Landes Center, 10:30AM

Children’s Message

Worship in the Landes Center tends to be less formal with a powerful drive. Music is led by the VPC Praise Band, which plays current popular worship music in a visual-driven setting with set pieces and screens.

9 & 10:30AM worship services Children worship with their family and listen to a message specifically for them. It is an opportunity for kids to hear the music, prayer, and message in worship services.

SUMMER READING

Jesus desires you to be whole, in body, mind, and soul. At VPC, we know that issues around mental health can be confusing, challenging, and may come with needless stigma. Here are some great books that will raise your awareness about mental health issues and how God cares about the whole person.

Anatomy of the Soul

In a Different Key: The Story of Autism

Integrating new findings in neuroscience and attachment with Christian spirituality, Dr. Thompson reveals how it is possible to rewire your mind, altering your brain patterns and literally making you more like the person God intended you to be. Explaining discoveries about the brain in layman’s terms, he shows how you can be mentally transformed through spiritual practices, interaction with Scripture, and connections with other people. He also provides practical exercises to help you experience healing in areas where you’ve been struggling. Anatomy of the Soul illustrates how learning about one of God’s most miraculous creations--your brain--can enrich your life, your relationships, and your impact on the world around you. The book includes reflection questions on each chapter.

An extraordinary narrative history of autism, the riveting story of parents fighting for their children’s civil rights, of doctors struggling to define autism; of ingenuity, self-advocacy, and profound social change.

Out of Solitude: Three Meditations on the Christan Life

In the Middle of the Mess: Strength for This Beautiful, Broken Life

“Nagging self-doubt is the basis of so much depression. We’re afraid,” Nouwen says, “that we will be unmasked and revealed for being imperfect. We are afraid of being judged and found wanting.” Nouwen’s answer echoes the extraordinary theologian Paul Tillich, “Know that you are accepted. You are fine as who you are. Have faith in yourself, instead of requiring approval of others, then get on with being connected in community.” In this book, Nouwen draws on three moments in Jesus’ life and “invites us to reflect on the tension between our desire for solitude and the demands of contemporary life. He reminds us that it was in solitude that Jesus found the courage to follow God’s will.”

Beloved Bible teacher Sheila Walsh teaches readers how the daily spiritual practices of confession, meditation on God’s Word, and prayer result in fresh freedom in Christ. In her long-awaited new book, Sheila Walsh equips women with a practical method for connecting with God’s strength in the midst of struggle. Using the spiritual applications of confession, prayer, and meditation on Scripture to form a daily connection to Jesus, women will learn how to experience new joy as a child of God who is fully known, fully loved, and fully accepted.

Curt Thompson, MD

John Donvan and Caren Zucker

Henri Nouwen

“In this compelling, well-researched book, the authors weave together the heroic search by parents for treatment and services for their children with the personal stories of a fascinating cast of characters. An invaluable guide for those dealing with autism and an inspiring affirmation of every individual’s contribution to ‘the fabric of humanity.’” -Kirkus Review
