BROADENING THE BOUNDARIES

who I am are all here. From my friends when I was a child to my wonderful husband (Brian Vasek) who has been the best support system,” said Maryam.

who was so patient, so thoughtful, and explained everything to me. In turn, I was able to explain everything to my grandmother. This is why I went into personal injury,” says Maryam.

Maryam found her why. Her reason to not waste the opportunity given to her. She intimately understands that not everyone is as lucky as she. She knows that things could have been very different for her, had her parents not decided to be brave and leave everything they ever knew behind and begin all over. “Given the turmoil and ongoing Women led Revolution in Iran, I feel blessed industry. I think we forget that sometimes. However, I try to be as patient with every single one of my clients as my attorney was with me and my grandmother. I explain and at times over explain processes so that my clients mind is at ease. With that said, I am also really honest. I won’t couch the issues and I will give you all of the facts so that you can make the best decision for yourself.”

One factor that makes THE702FIRM Injury Attorneys different from other legal practices is the leadership. One of the principals, Michael C. Kane not only has prolific legal experience, but a degree in biological science. This gives THE702FIRM Injury Attorneys an advantage. They have access to a wealth of knowledge regarding the injuries sustained by their clients, as well as the quality-of-life experienced while, and after their clients recover. It’s kind of difficult to fool these attorneys if you’re on their radar. Attorney Kane used to represent the insurance companies himself. He first worked on the defense side of the aisle, and the irony is that he went from representing the “big guys” to standing up for the “little guy”. Therefore, he has extensive experience with the way insurance companies structure their defenses, what loopholes they seek to use, and many other tricks and tactics employed by the insurance companies. I’d rue the day that I would have to face these attorneys in court if I was one of these corporations.

With this vast expertise, THE702FIRM Injury attorneys are the ones to call. Along with Attorney Kane, attorneys Bradley J. Myers (the other principal of the firm) and Joel Hengstler (who was elevated to partner by Brad and Mike in 2021) are involved in the case process from beginning to end with their clients, and that includes all case prep as well. It’s assuring to have the support of attorneys like Bradley Myers, who handles injury cases of all magnitudes, but primarily focuses on catastrophic injuries and wrongful death for THE702FIRM Injury Attorneys. This includes motor vehicle accidents, insurance bad faith, slip and fall, wrongful death, dog bite, and product liability cases. Attorney Myers previously worked with insurance companies as well. Needless to say, he’s a valued asset when litigating, and he has been one for 18 years and counting.

With a background in family law, estate planning, and criminal defense, as well as experience with workers’ compensation, Joel Hengstler became a partner of THE702FIRM injury attorneys in 2021. Attorney Hengstler has handled thousands of personal injury matters, exclusively representing injured parties. THE702FIRM Injury Attorneys have three $3,000,000 settlements, and consistently receive referrals from other pre-litigation attorneys. This makes them the “lawyer’s lawyer”, in effect. According to Attorney Kane, “We take cases that other firms would turn down because they’re too complex or they don’t see a way to win. But we find ways to resolve them.” Perhaps, this is yet another factor that makes them different from the others.

Well-rounded attorneys, great service, and desirable results. These are the hallmarks of a great firm. We celebrate THE702FIRM Injury Attorneys for protecting us from the greed of the bad apples in the insurance industry, and being there for us as a source of support in our most trying times. We can hardly wait to see what's next for this firm

WHEN DID YOU KNOW YOU WANTED TO BECOME A LAWYER? I spent a summer in Thailand with my parents who were there doing humanitarian work, specifically with asylum seekers and refugees. I witnessed first hand the power of the attorneys who were working alongside them—their knowledge, writing skills and advocacy were changing these people’s lives. I knew I could help people with a law degree, and I was hooked!

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A DIVORCE LAWYER? I like to say that I didn’t choose family law, it chose me. I was certain after clerking in a family law firm during law school that it wasn’t for me. Too emotional, too draining. But I kept coming back to it, the connection, the ability to walk with someone through their most trying time, to be their voice, to give them peace. It became too powerful to deny, I was meant to be in this role, and I never looked back.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A LAWYER? WHERE DID YOU GO FOR UNDERGRAD AND LAW SCHOOL? I graduated undergrad from Santa Clara University in 2006 and law school from the same University in 2011. I have been licensed to practice law in California since 2011 and Nevada since 2012.

HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR HUSBAND, DORON? We met on campus at SCU when I was 19! We were together through my law school and bar exam journey and then eventually into the practice of law. I think he appreciates all the free legal advice!

HOW OLD ARE YOUR CHILDREN? WHAT ARE THEIR NAMES? I have three daughters, Nevaeh (8), Alaiyah (5) and Braelah (3)

LAWYERS ARE KNOWN FOR WORKING LONG HOURS. HOW DO YOU HANDLE BEING A WIFE AND MOTHER OF THREE WHILE BEING A LAWYER? The work stays at the office, to a certain extent. Family law doesn’t stop on weekends or holidays, and I know that a quick moment from me can make or break my client’s circumstance, and my family recognizes that too. But I like to be active and present with my kids, playing, getting outside and honoring my time with them.

ANY TIPS FOR WORKING MOTHERS OUT THERE ON HOW TO MANAGE A CAREER AND RAISING NEWBORNS? I don’t have great advice on this because there is no perfect recipe to this balance. All I will say is it’s a balance that will continue to ebb, flow and change over time. No phase is forever. Give yourself grace, always.

LAWYERS ARE KNOWN FOR WORKING UNDER PRESSURE AND DEADLINES. RAISING CHILDREN HAS ITS OWN PRESSURES. HOW DO YOU RELEASE ALL THAT STRESS AND TENSION? Planned pockets of family time, to unwind and unplug. I love to travel, locally and internationally. Beach days, clear water, adventures. Helps me to return rejuvenated for my cases.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE “FAMILY” ACTIVITY Either a sporting event, or the beach!

ARE YOU HOPING ONE OF YOUR CHILDREN WILL WANT TO BECOME A LAWYER? ARE THEY SHOWING ANY SIGNS OF BEING LAWYER MATERIAL? My middle daughter has the fiery spirit of a litigator. She is willing to fight me that the sky is blue. But truly, I want my children to find their worth in themselves, not what they do—in doing that their passions will lead the way!

Commercial real estate owners generally desire to retire and enjoy residual, passive income. A well thought out Estate Plan will ensure that you continue to enjoy your wealth during your life, and that it will be managed and passed to your designated beneficiaries following your death. Other reasons to implement an Estate Plan are to avoid the cost and delay of Probate Court proceedings and to avoid federal and state death taxes, where applicable. It is essential to consider your “exit plan” at the beginning as a fundamental element of your investing in real estate, both commercial and residential.

Many investment properties (multi-family, hospitality, retail and manufacturing) are sued regularly, and often the owners are sued. Unfortunately, assets are vulnerable to litigation. It is advisable that owners should take the offensive to shelter their assets. Asset protection will keep assets from creditors, without concealing them illegally or evading taxes.

Shauna S. Brennan, Esquire, a Notre Dame law graduate, works closely with business owners and high net worth individuals to design and document an estate plan to ensure a meaningful legacy for you.
