What a hot summer it has been! We reached record-breaking temperatures, and I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for the cooler weather ahead of us.
Now that the summer is winding down, it’s time for our kids to go back to school. My baby boy is starting high school! I sit here and ask myself where the time went. One day you’re bottle feeding them, the next you’re sending them off to high school!
One of my biggest accomplishments is raising my son, Elijah. Raising him while working full-time and trying to create that balance at such a young age is hard, but I’ve managed and love who he’s becoming. Let me tell you, women can make magic

One of my most rewarding accomplishments as a Councilwoman was the fight for animal welfare in Las Vegas. When others disregarded the pressing issues at the Animal Foundation for decades, a multi-jurisdictional shelter, I took a stand. I led the charge to bring together Clark County, North Las Vegas, and the City of Las Vegas to address the problem nobody wanted to solve. Through collaboration and sheer tenacity, we were able to find solutions, make changes, and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our furry friends. This experience demonstrated my ability to unite disparate groups towards a common goal for the greater good of our community.

Meet Shelly Berkley, Candidate for Mayor
Shelley Berkley’s distinguished career exemplifies her unwavering commitment to public service and her deep-rooted dedication to the Las Vegas community. With a track record of leadership that spans over three decades, Shelley is poised to bring her extensive experience and proven leadership to the office of Mayor of Las Vegas.
Shelley recently concluded her tenure as the Senior Vice President of the Touro University system, where she previously served as CEO and Senior Provost at Touro University Western Division for eight-and-a-half years. Before her role at Touro, Shelley served the State of Nevada in the United States House of Representatives from 1999 to 2013. As the first woman to represent her district, Shelley held this position for seven terms, demonstrating her constituents’ trust and confidence in her capabilities. During her 14 years in Congress, she served on several key committees, particularly the healthcare subcommittee.
One of Shelley’s most significant accomplishments during her time in Congress was establishing the new Veterans Administration medical complex in Southern Nevada. This project was instrumental in providing quality healthcare to veterans in the community. Shelley was a staunch advocate for increased funding for graduate medical education (residencies) and played a pivotal role in healthcare reform initiatives.
Shelley was also recognized as one of the strongest supporters of Israel in Congress. Her contributions to every resolution, legislation, committee markup, and floor debate underscored her commitment to international relations.
Shelley’s career in public service began in 1983 when she was elected as an assemblywoman in the Nevada State Legislature. She worked diligently to strengthen consumer protection laws and combat drunk driving during her tenure. She was instrumental in creating the Senior Law Project and drafting the Lemon Law, which protects new car owners from defective vehicles.
In 1990, Shelley was appointed and subsequently elected twice to the Nevada State Board of Regents, where she served until 1998. As Vice Chairperson, she fought to
keep tuition costs low and was a driving force behind the creation of a law school at UNLV, ensuring affordable and accessible higher education for all Nevadans.
Before her congressional service, Shelley had a successful legal career, including roles as an attorney for the Nevada State Commerce Department, in-house counsel for Southwest Gas Corporation, and Vice President for Government and Legal Affairs for the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas.
Shelley’s personal life is deeply rooted in the Las Vegas community. She is married to Dr. Larry Lehrner, a kidney specialist, and is the proud mother of two sons, Max, an attorney, and Sam Berkley, a territory manager for Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada. She also has two stepchildren, David, a specialist in information technology, and Stephanie Lehrner, DO, a primary care physician. Raised in Las Vegas, Shelley attended John C. Fremont JHS and Valley High School. As the first person in her family to attend college, she graduated from UNLV in 1973, where she was student body president.

Shelley understands the importance of community trust and respect in law enforcement, advocating for community policing efforts to enhance safety and harmony.
Affordable housing is another cornerstone of Shelley’s platform. She is committed to ensuring stable, accessible, safe, energy-efficient, and affordable housing for all Las Vegans. Shelley’s approach to economic growth is centered on smart development and job creation. Recognizing that small businesses
are the backbone of the economy, she aims to foster a robust business environment through her experience with the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, Las Vegas Chamber, Henderson Chamber, and Latin Chamber of Commerce.
Homelessness is a growing challenge in Las Vegas, and Shelley is determined to address it with a comprehensive strategy that fosters responsibility, accountability, and self-reliance, helping individuals transition out of homelessness permanently.
Finally, Shelley seeks a fair resolution to the Badlands dispute, emphasizing the need to protect taxpayer resources and end costly litigation. Her decisive leadership aims to resolve this issue.

Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Bar to Debut on Las Vegas Strip

Jason Aldean to bring Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Bar to the Las Vegas Strip this fall 2024.
TC Restaurant Group is known as the leading operator in Nashville’s famed lower Broadway district and aims to deliver the best of the Music City experience to Las Vegas.
The venue will bring its signature combination of live music, Southern comfort food and one-of-a-kind memorabilia. The venue will feature outdoor patios, private event spaces, full-service dining and DJ-driven nightlife all under one roof, promising a premier experience where guests can dine, enjoy world-class performances and dance the night away.
“To open our fourth Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Bar and the first West Coast location in iconic Las Vegas is thrilling,” said Adam Hesler, TC Restaurant Group chief executive officer. “We will be right on the Las Vegas Strip, at the epicenter of the excitement and look forward to hosting not only incoming visitors from around the world but also giving the Las Vegas residents a unique experience and inviting atmosphere to unwind and have a great time.”
Located at 63 CityCenter at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Harmon Avenue, the 22,500-square-foot, two-story venue will feature two music stages with regular live performances ranging from country to pop to other top 40 genres. The venue will include a 250+-seat main dining area, seven bars and a spectacular outdoor elliptical patio offering unparalleled views of the Strip
as well as a 15,000-square-foot second floor of entertainment with velvet-tufted booths, resident DJs, an additional live music stage and an elevated VIP bottle service section. The Las Vegas location will also feature a signature 4,000-square-foot patio with views of the Strip for a one-of-a-kind late-night experience.
Known for its stellar food and entertainment, Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Bar will showcase menu items and Southern comfort dishes inspired by Aldean’s favorites, including “Jason’s Mac and Cheese” and “Grandma’s Pot Roast,” from the Aldean’s family recipe book, along with their famous peach cobbler and a 32 oz. tomahawk ribeye that was named Nashville’s best steak by Tige & Danie of The Big 98. The bar will also feature TEABIRD, Aldean’s co-owned brand of hard sweet tea, which Food + Beverage Magazine recently featured on its cover. A key feature of the venue will be memorabilia hand-picked by Aldean, including record plaques of his best-selling songs including “Dirt Road Anthem,” “Any ‘Ol Barstool” and “My Kinda Party,” as well as guitars and personal photos. Guests will find plenty of picture-worthy moments, such as the venue’s centerpiece Tractor Bar, which boasts a vintage 4020
John Deere Tractor, an homage to Aldean’s multi-Platinum No. 1 hit song, “Big Green Tractor.”
Establishing a home for country music on the Strip, it will feature a live on-air iHeartRadio studio on location, recording daily interviews with various musicians and celebrities who will often take to the stage for impromptu performances, creating an ever-changing lineup of live entertainment. Listeners can hear the programming on iHeartRadio’s KWNR 95.5 and on the iHeartRadio app.
Additional grand opening information will be announced at a later date, with the venue expected to open to the public in early fall. The original Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Bar in Nashville is already established as one of the country’s top destinations, earning the title “Live Music Venue of the Year” in 2019 by Bar & Restaurant Expo (formerly Nightclub & Bar). THE TRUE TASTE OF THE SOUTH
Since a young age, John Holland, Executive Chef and Owner of Rollin Smoke Barbeque, knew that cooking was in his bones. Growing up, John would ask his mother to prepare the Thanksgiving desserts, and even grilled for his friends and co-workers after long days in the Arkansas oil fields.
At only 24 years old, John decided to pursue his culinary dream and move to Las Vegas to attend La Cordon Bleu.
John soon realized that not a single BBQ restaurant around the valley resembled the true Southern roots of home. He decided it was time to take his mobile smoker/grill to the side of Russell Road, in a hardware store parking lot with his dad and brother to put the true taste of the South in everyone’s mouth. The first day, the team sold 3 sandwiches. The second day, they sold 7 and continued to grow their business, deciding to open their first brick and mortar location in 2012. Shortly after, Rick Harrison and his father became regulars at the restaurant, eventually offering them a partnership in the plaza next to Gold and Silver Pawn Shop.
John had no idea that his once small mobile smoker/grill would grow to this extent, and continuously expand. Winning numerous BBQ competitions, receiving national recognition in the top 16 Hottest New Barbeque restaurants, recognition as Top 20 best Barbeque restaurants in the country, being featured on channels like Food Network, Discovery Channel, and many more are just a few of Rollin Smoke’s accomplishments over the years.
The moment you walk through the door of any of their three Las Vegas locations, you are met with genuine Southern hospitality. The meats are smoked with Hickory wood and prepared with the “low and slow” process, and you can taste the love and effort put into the mouthwatering meats at Rollin Smoke. Some of the most famous dishes at the restaurant include the Fried Catfish, Beef Ribs, and Smoked Meatloaf. The diverse menu and homemade sauces cover a range of palates, especially the BBQ craving ones.

They also enjoy participating in Pigs for Kids charity cook-off and the Best Dam BBQ in Boulder City. They donate to a plethora of organizations throughout the city and continue to look for more opportunities to give back.

AN ALLIANCE for GREATNESS
Did you know that according to some national polls, The State of Nevada is ranked 50th in the nation when it comes to mental health services?
Dr. Faisal Suba and Dr. Daniel Park, two of the founding members of Alliance Mental Health Specialists, envisioned changing this statistic when they were in their Psychiatric Residency program through the University of Nevada-School of Medicine. They often talked about opening a small practice together when they graduated, but neither of them ever imagined that their practice would grow to the size that it is today.
“We saw a need and wanted to be part of the solution,” said Dr. Suba. “We would constantly hear how long it was taking for patients to get in to see a psychiatrist. We hoped by opening a large practice, we would be
able to help some of these patients find consistent and compassionate care.” Founded in 2016, Alliance Mental Health Specialists has grown from 3 psychiatrists in Las Vegas, to 29 Psychiatric providers with an office in Las Vegas and Reno. Their highly qualified team consists of Psychiatrists, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants.
In addition to outpatient care, Alliance Mental Health Specialists also provide services at inpatient psychiatric hospitals, Skilled Nursing Facilities, as well as psychiatric consult services at medical hospitals in Nevada. Dr. Park says, “By having a presence at various different levels of care, we are able to provide continuity of care.”
Both Dr. Suba and Dr. Park are thankful for the ability to serve their patients’ needs but they also believe that helping to educate future psychiatrists, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants is extremely important in order to continue to further improve access to quality mental health care in Nevada. In addition to seeing patients, a substantial amount of their time is spent mentoring, lecturing, and rounding with students.

“UNLV basketball, the original Wet’n’Wild, and the Crystal Palace Skating Center, located off Boulder Highway raised me. There were no Raiders games and Cirque Du Soleil shows. I think it’s just amazing that we finally have professional sports teams for these children to get behind. When the Las Vegas Aces won the WNBA finals, my kids lost their minds. Las Vegas now has a professional sports championship. I never thought I would say that!
Families moving to Vegas now are so beautifully spoiled for choice. When someone calls me from out-of-state and asks me, ‘What is there to do with my kids?’, I nearly fall out of my chair. What ISN’T there to do here? This is the best city in the world. From a local ski resort to ATV riding in the desert, we have it all.”
Yvette cherishes the time that she spends with her husband and the children and holds it of the upmost importance. With two children in elementary school and a 1-year-old, Yvette emphasizes that organization is a non-negotiable to manage a full-time business, and all the activities that her family attends on a weekly basis.
“Work-life balance is something I hold dear to my heart. Before real estate, I was working on the Strip and managing some of the most high-end restaurants that this city has to offer. However, the job became my life instead of it being a part of my life. I was missing nights at home and helping my kids do homework. Something really had to give. My husband had been mentioning real estate to me for years, but I just kept brushing it off. Hospitality was in my blood and all I had really ever known. I wasn’t comfortable leaving that life and starting from scratch with two young kids and no steady income. I eventually realized that the late nights were not sustainable and started to study for my license. Eight weeks later, I took my test and passed. I handed in my notice that same day and stared selfemployment in its big, scary face.
I had a handful of friends around me that really supported this career change and wanted only the best for me and my family. They sent me names and numbers of local realtors that they thought I should meet for coffee, escrow officers that had been doing this for a long time and lenders that could be a resource in the future.
One of the realtors that I just happened to meet was Rick Ruiz. A coffee at Einstein Bagels has turned into nearly 4 years of a work partnership. Joining forces with him was the best decision I could have ever made. I didn’t quite understand the powerhouse that I was going to be onboarding with, I just saw
a genuine guy that worked hard and really wanted to grow a team to help other agents become successful. I clearly had no idea what I was doing, but failure was not an option. I started going into the office every day and I just sat and listened to his phone calls, watched how he dealt with issues, asked questions about everything I was seeing. I must have driven him insane. However, I learned a lot. I tried to make sure I was the first to offer to do an open house, the first to offer to give a tour of a property, and soon, this turned into meeting clients and getting my first transaction done.
The first homeowner I helped was the sweetest young lady that called a yard sign on one of Rick’s listings. I went and met her, and we eventually found her the right house. She closed just before Halloween, and we still text each other to this day. Rick was in the middle setting up a NAHREP event and talked me through writing her contract while organizing that event on a boat on Lake Las Vegas. That’s the definition of teamwork.”
Since then, Yvette and Rick have closed many more deals together and she has been fortunate to rise in the Realtor ranks to be named in the Top 1% of Realtors in Clark County for 2021. She has also been named Top 25 Women in Real Estate for the last two years by the Women’s Council of Realtors.
“My broker, George, has also been my biggest supporter. He makes GK Properties feel like a family. I know I bother him constantly with my questions and requests for help when the inevitable issue arises, but he is one of the best guys out there. From gorgeous Christmas parties to the weekly team meetings, George really promotes a sense of family amongst us all and we are lucky to have him. He just relocated us all into our new office in Green Valley and it has been such a great move for us all. We now see one another every day and our brokerage bond is stronger than ever.”
When asked what aspect of this job makes Yvette the happiest, she was quick to answer. “When I am trusted to help someone make Las Vegas their home or sell their house that holds so many memories dear to them, I am always so humbled. To be asked to be a part of such a huge (and sometimes stressful!) time in someone’s life is not something I take lightly. I want to always do the best for my clients, but not just because this is my job. I want to do well because I take pride in fulfilling the role that I have been trusted with and making someone’s dreams come true. I wake up every day grateful I get to do something that I love. This job will put you on a roller coaster of emotions on the daily, but it’s a rewarding career and I love every aspect of what I do. Las Vegas is my home and my city. SUCCESS & SURVIVAL
Sandy Wolff is a champion of survival and has proven that even pancreatic cancer can be beaten.
“You build your house of cards, carefully placing one card upon another hoping that the base is significant enough to withstand the toppling of the tiers. If a card weakens or distresses or merely gives way for no apparent reason, the cards come tumbling down. No matter how you plan, when something tumbles or gives way it takes on a life of its own,” says Sandy.
This is how Sandy Wolff felt in January of 2023 when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. You see, the pancreatic diagnosis was Sandy’s 4th cancer diagnosis. She had already survived bile duct cancer, uterine cancer, and colon cancer over the course of 20 years.
Although the news was bleak, Sandy did not give up. She believes, “It is up to us to determine the fate of the story.” She did her best to navigate through the next steps, even though several institutions denied treatment. Those that know Sandy will agree that she is just not a quitter.
By February, Sandy was admitted into a clinical trial at UCLA under the direction
of Dr. Zev Wainberg. She received 5 types of chemotherapy in combination with immunotherapy, for a total of 6 months. Dr. Wainberg’s protocol was an aggressive treatment designed to shrink the tumor in Sandy’s pancreas so that it would then be operable. At this time, the only known cure for pancreatic cancer is removal of the tumor. Sandy not only had great physicians, but long-time friends and an employer who made the schedule possible.
Working for Fletcher Jones, a small family-owned business, made it possible for Sandy to have a flexible work schedule during the height of her illness. And a longtime friend, Johnny Ribeiro, owner of Quail Air Center, provided many of the flights to
UCLA. The aggressive therapy took its toll and Sandy saw notable physical therapist, Scott Pensivy of Prism PT to help her through the grueling process of rehabilitation. She also incorporated IV therapy into her regiment so she didn’t get too dehydrated during treatment. Her well-being was literally treated day to day depending on how her system was reacting to the chemo and immunotherapy. The clinical trial regiment was completed in June of 2023 and Sandy was scheduled for the Whipple surgery at UCLA.
In July of 2023, Dr. Timothy Donahue of UCLA performed a successful Whipple surgery replacing the artery and vein in Sandy’s pancreas with veins from her legs as well as removing the tumor. Wolff was allowed to return to Las Vegas under the care of Oncologist, Dr. Karen Jacks of Comprehensive Cancer Centers, and her two daughters, Kristine Creel (Allan) and Dr. Shannon Michelson (Andy) after remaining in the hospital for 12 days.
“Major success is all too rare to be taken lightly,” says Sandy, grateful and surrounded by loving family members.
At 66, Wolff is now a 4-time cancer survivor, as she officially went into remission in November of 2023. Sandy celebrated with her 4 grandchildren Cash and Allyn Marie Creel, and William and Charles Michelson.
According to Wolff, she is optimistic and follows her doctor’s orders to the letter. It is her determined attitude and willingness to take on life that has led to her success, whether she is hiking in the Redrocks, skiing in the Sierra Nevada mountains, selling a Mercedes Benz or surviving cancer. SHE IS RAD (RADHIKA SHAH)
Radhika Shah, age 22, founded Real Autism Difference (RAD) nonprofit organization in the Southern Nevada area for her 16th birthday in 2018. Radhika was inspired by her younger brother, Amar, who has severe autism. After spending several hours volunteering in Amar’s Special Education classroom and witnessing the severe lack of resources for him and his peers, Radhika became committed to her mission at age 13 of eventually launching an initiative to put a dent in this existing problem. Three years later, her
dream materialized with RAD’s launch. Since then, RAD has successfully implemented afterschool, weekend, and summer care respite programs with a 4:1 child-to-provider ratio so individuals who require significant care can attend. Additionally, RAD has conducted several programs throughout the years including sensory play workshops, RTC Mobility training, educational seminars for families, and a variety of other programs in the Southern Nevada community.
Radhika recently graduated Stanford University in June of 2024, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Biology with a concentration in Brain and Behavior. Despite Radhika pursuing her academic endeavors outside of Nevada during the past few years, Radhika remains committed to running RAD. HOA’S…
HAVE THEY DIGRESSED TO A FORM OF NAZI COMMUNICATION WITH OUR LAS VEGAS HOMEOWNERS?
Almost everyone in eyeshot of this article has lived, or is currently living, in an HOA. To accurately breakdown the reference of “Nazi Communication,” Websters defines it as, “Derogatory term for a person who is fanatically dedicated to, or seeks to control, some activity, practice, etc.” I would say the adjective used, fits well.
I come from a family who first came to Las Vegas in the 1940’s. My parents, siblings, cousins, spouses, and their children are real estate lawyers, small builders, and appraisers (with me being the only real estate licensee). We all are passionate about property ownership.
I was licensed in 1988 and I’ve grown alongside Las Vegas. I’ve become passionate about my clients, and all people, who invest into property to grow financially and spiritually to have a better life. I speak frequently to most of my past clients, following and inviting them to keep me updated with any issues that cause them discord.
The most common complaint I hear is about their HOA. I share with them my personal
experiences, with my HOA’s, and we all seem to have the same experiences. The HOA sends a letter notifying the homeowner of their issue(s) with them and gives them so much time to remedy, or they will be fined.
For example, I received a notice that my tree in the front yard was dead. The tree was about 15 years old. I stepped outside, took video of my leaves blowing in the wind, and sent it to the HOA. She argued with me, “We told you about this and you didn’t listen, so we are fining you $100 per week until you cut the tree down.” I could feel the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
Another HOA tried to fine my client $8000 for garbage cans (these were exactly where they instructed the owner to place them), for domestic fights in the front yard, and racing automobiles down the street. The neighbor had turned in a multitude of complaints, but when she sat with the board, there was not one piece of evidence that any of this occurred. She had never heard about any of this. When the president, sitting in a forward position looking her dead in the eye as an attempt at intimidation, she replied, “Don’t you think I would know if this was happening at my house? Why are you fining me?”
The president said, “Well the neighbor reported this, and we would run down to where this was reported. This took so much time. We are going to fine you $4000 for the trouble.” She simply said, “OK. I am selling my home, and I am suing the HOA for harassment and forcing me from my home.” Within 15 minutes of her departure, they emailed her and said, “We dropped all the fines.” That issue took 1.5 years, and she sold her house to escape the false accusations.
The problem isn’t the litany of items that trigger a complaint from the HOA. The problem is the absolute disrespect, lack of true care or concern, for their homeowners. To be approached and feel threatened is not conducive to a harmonious HOA Leadership. In fact, there is NO leadership. Therein lies the rub.
Just because you are on a board, you are not given power or authority over anyone. Your job is to keep track of your specific duties. You must invite, inspire, and motivate your community to fulfill whatever you need from them. To bully, intimidate, or threaten will only leave a community of absolute resentment towards that HOA. How is that working for you?
I personally have trained through 5 different leadership programs, getting my coaching certification, since 2004. My purpose was to learn how to communicate with others in a healthy and inspirational way. We should require that ALL members of the board go through team building and leadership.
Rather than continuously focusing on the problem, we need to focus on solutions. Here are suggestions for a highly functional system that HOA’s must subscribe to:
1. Leadership course
2. Elections-Voter integrity - find volunteer vote counters
3. Limits on fines
4. In leadership training, they need to complete at least 3 experiential training programs, and a leadership coaching program to teach value-based communication.
What would happen if we had our HOA’s required to learn how to communicate with their community in a healthy and positive way? Where we felt an invitational and supportive spirit when they need a homeowner to take care of something? Grapple with that for a minute and let’s get to changing our Nazi forms of communication to a harmonious community, led by aware individuals. MV

FROM ABUELA’S KITCHEN TO YOURS
Abuela’s Tacos has been serving up mouth-watering Mexican cuisine to the community since 2011.
The founder, Leslie Valdes, was inspired to start the restaurant after a difficult experience at Sunrise Hospital with her grandmother, Abuela Sara. The doctor had warned them that Abuela Sara might not make it through her surgery because of her age, and it hit Leslie hard to think that she might lose her.
Having just graduated with her MBA, Leslie decided to honor her grandmother by opening a restaurant dedicated to her. Abuela Sara was known for her delicious Cuban food, and Leslie wanted to bring that same passion and flavor to the community. Despite the recession and the odds being stacked against them, Leslie signed the lease for an old mechanic shop in her childhood neighborhood and opened Abuela’s Tacos on January 21, 2011.
The recipes at Abuela’s Tacos come from the main cook, Rita Ayala, who uses her Abuelita’s recipes from Durango, Mexico. Leslie and her team knew that they had to make everything homemade and from scratch to ensure that the food tasted just like it was made by someone’s grandmother. Even with very little staff at the beginning, everyone put their hearts into the restaurant to make it a success.
The first five years were critical for the restaurant’s survival, but just when they had made it past that milestone, COVID-19 hit. It was a challenging time for Abuela’s Tacos,
but Leslie knew that some of her staff relied on the restaurant to make ends meet. They pivoted to curbside and delivery options, and with the support of their loyal customers, they were able to keep the doors open and continue serving the community.
Now, twelve years later, Abuela’s Tacos has not only survived but thrived. They sponsor as many youth teams as they can and hold car washes and fundraisers to help the community when in need. And they have been recognized for their outstanding food and service, having been voted Best Tacos LV twice with the Review Journal, once with the Las Vegas Weekly, and even featured on Netflix’s Tacos of Chronicles. In 2021, the restaurant was even honored to be part of the Allegiant Stadium, with two stands inside the stadium. They’ve even won an award with the Vegas Knights.
Leslie credits her success to her amazing staff, including her kids and her mom, who have helped her tremendously over the years. But more than anything, it’s the passion and love for Abuela Sara that drives Leslie and her team to keep making amazing food and giving back to the community.

A FORCE FOR CHANGE
When Staci Maione learned the severity and depth of human trafficking that runs through the moral fabric of the country, she realized something had to be done to create a solution. She realized that this issue touches the youngest people in our society.
Agape Rescues Children, otherwise known as ARC, founded by Staci Maione, harbors a grand vision - to establish holistic healing homes and aftercare facilities for children rescued from the clutches of trafficking. Maione’s journey began with a stark realization: the vulnerability of our society’s youth to the horrors of trafficking. “I discovered a vast number of young children are kidnapped or sold into trafficking, often at birth,” Maione revealed. “With all the research that I’ve done, I discovered there was a huge void in what happened to them after they were rescued. I wanted to create places for the young children to call home if they couldn’t go back to their families.”
While Staci’s final visions for ARC are massive projects, in the meantime, she knows the importance of starting on a grassroots level. She adds, “I believe education is key to spotting and ending child trafficking.” She began engaging with County commissioners’ meetings, getting involved with local politics, and more. Collaborating with her friend Susan Ross, Staci developed an educational manual an ARC educational manual, which teaches the signs to look for, how predators lure children, the grooming process, etc. Staci explains, “I basically teach people, ‘If you see something say something! This is what to look for’ It could save a child’s life.”
From schools to nail salons, Maione takes her message wherever ears are open. Yet, she adds, “My ultimate goal with the educational manual is to get it into schools. Teaching kids to look out for one another…,” expressing that education is key.
As she continues to find ways to make change, Maione joined forces with Tara Sheahan. Tara is the founder of Breathelab, the founder of Oniya, and is building the first healing center for ARC to help children. This powerful duo, as well as other compassionate souls, joined to create Ameliorate Your Life, a holistic healing company that provides techniques and tools for an inspired existence. “We’ve consolidated various healing practices onto one platform,” Maione explains. These healing classes include breath classes, yoga, meditation, nutrition, gardening and connecting with nature, all in the privacy of your own home. The best part? Staci says, “Proceeds from Ameliorate helps ARC, ultimately you’re helping to heal and finding your power, while you’re helping the children of ARC.”
Staci envisions the connection between ARC and Ameliorate, adding, “We want to create these healing homes to be based on Ameliorate.” A sanctuary where rescued children can get their heads strong and begin working at their holistic modalities.
While ARC’s monumental projects take shape behind the scenes, Maione’s vision remains her ultimate intention. She adds, “I’ve always believed we can do something to help humanity and people that are struggling… we all go through difficult times in life.” By creating initiatives and envisioning projects like hers, Staci is well on her way to making a real difference in the lives of children and people everywhere.

Then a fiberglass casing is saturated with a two-part epoxy resin and inserted into the existing compromised pipe. A secondary calibration tube (a balloon) will be inflated into the saturated liner until the line cures into the new pipe structure.

CHASING HAPPINESS
What was the happiest time of your life?
There was a study done by Princeton University1 to determine the answer to that question. They interviewed 23,000 people ages 17 to 85 and they identified two ages when happiness tends to peak. The first was 23, the age when your education is behind you and you are finally earning an income. It is a season that is full of optimism and hope about the future. The other was 69, the age when the stresses of raising a family and earning a living are behind you and there is optimism about retirement.
My guess is you are somewhere in between these two ages. So does that mean you are destined to be miserable until you finally retire? Not if you choose to change what you chase after. Happiness is based more on our circumstances, but joy and contentment
come from a deeper place. Consider the words from one of the greatest chapters in the Bible, Psalm 23:
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. 2
This is a picture of contentment. These words are born out of the life of King David, who experienced some of life’s highest highs and lowest lows. As a teenager, he killed a giant by the name of Goliath. He was made King and achieved enormous success. But, he also experienced some of life’s greatest heartbreaks. He lost a child after birth, lost the throne to a son who tried to kill him and had a tumultuous relationship with his children.
But in the midst of these circumstances, he writes, “The Lord is my shepherd.” He has

a personal relationship with his Heavenly Father: The Lord is my shepherd. David knows what it means to be a shepherd. He spent years watching sheep. However, David doesn’t write this psalm from the vantage point of a shepherd, he writes it from the perspective of the sheep. If the Lord is my shepherd, that means I am His sheep. That seems odd because sheep aren’t very bright. A few years ago in eastern Turkey, there was one sheep who went over a 50-foot cliff into a ravine and another 1,500 sheep followed him off the cliff. The first 400 of those sheep died, but the other 1,100 sheep survived because they landed on the pile of pillowy soft sheep.3 You would think that one of them would pause for a minute and say, “You know Eddie went over the cliff and never came back. Maybe I ought to reflect on that for a moment before I keep walking.” Sheep don’t have the best track record at making good decisions.
This isn’t a psalm about sheep. It’s about people. It’s about you and me. David reminds us that when you let the Lord be your shepherd; when you let God direct your path; that is when you lack nothing. That is where contentment is found.
It would be a few hundred years later when Jesus would say: “I am the good shepherd.” 4 (emphasis mine). Jesus is personifying Psalm 23: “You know that Psalm about the Lord being my shepherd? That’s me. I’m the good shepherd.”
So as we embark on a new year, what would it look like for you to make the Lord your shepherd? That is when you will find true contentment and refreshment for your soul.

THE POWER OF FORGIVENESS: A PATH TO PEACE
In a world where grievances often linger like shadows, the act of forgiveness can seem like a distant ideal. Whether it’s a minor slight or a deep betrayal, the hurt we experience can take root, festering into bitterness. Yet, forgiveness is not just a lofty concept reserved for saints; it’s a powerful tool for healing that everyone can access.
Forgiveness, at its core, is the conscious decision to let go of resentment and thoughts of revenge. It’s not about excusing the wrong or forgetting it ever happened, but rather about freeing yourself from the heavy burden that comes with holding onto pain. When we forgive, we reclaim our peace and allow ourselves to move forward unshackled by the past.
This idea is echoed in many faith traditions, particularly within Christianity, where forgiveness is a central tenet. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus teaches about forgiveness with a profound statement: “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times” (Matthew 18:22). This isn’t just a call to forgive occasionally; it’s an invitation to make
forgiveness a lifestyle, a continuous practice that shapes how we relate to others and ourselves.
But why is forgiveness so powerful? For one, it breaks the cycle of hurt. When we hold onto anger, we’re often the ones who suffer most. It can consume our thoughts, erode our relationships, and even impact our health. Studies have shown that chronic anger and bitterness can lead to stress-related illnesses and a lower quality of life. On the other hand, forgiveness has been linked to lower levels of anxiety, depression, and stress, and even to improved cardiovascular health.
Moreover, forgiveness allows us to reclaim our narrative. When we forgive, we take control of our story, refusing to let the actions of others dictate how we live. It’s an act of self-empowerment, a declaration that we will not be defined by the wrongs done to us but by how we choose to respond. Forgiveness also opens the door to reconciliation, though it’s important to note that forgiving doesn’t always mean restoring the
relationship to its previous state. Sometimes, the healthiest choice is to forgive and let go, moving forward separately but with peace in our hearts.
In our everyday lives, practicing forgiveness can start small. It might be as simple as letting go of a grudge against a coworker or choosing to see a loved one’s mistake with compassion rather than judgment. Over time, these small acts of forgiveness can transform our relationships and our inner world.
Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves. It’s a path to peace, a way to lighten our load and make room for joy, love, and connection. So, the next time you find yourself weighed down by anger or hurt, consider taking a step toward forgiveness. You might just find that in letting go, you gain so much more.

Ron Quince (Ron Q) has become a man on a mission. The 40-year Las Vegas businessman, and father of two young daughters realized a few months ago that building a future for them should include a foundation of giving to the families in need around him. Quince, an accountant and entrepreneur, believes that his Filipino upbringing helped to shape a desire for giving.
“We have always taken care of each other in the Filipino community, but reaching farther out has brought me great joy,” says Quince. “I have worked very hard in my professional and family life. The first step is to find a qualified repair shop that has expertise on these older vehicles. You can easily be misled. At Imperial Auto we have 2 Technicians that are older than the vehicle and we have a vast depth of resource. I am going to say that you are going to need a minimum of $3000.00 to get started. Removing and flushing the fuel tank. Going through the fuel delivery system. Draining and resealing the powertrain. Reconditioning the brake system. Replacing the tires.
