LE CAPANNE CAPOVOLTE THE UPSIDE-DOWN HUTS

Dopo avervi realizzato nel 2016 l’iconica piscina a sbalzo, lo studio altoatesino noa* network of architecture è tornato quest’anno all’hotel Hubertus di Valdaora, in Val Pusteria, con il progetto di un nuovo spazio dedicato al benessere che sembra sfidare la forza di gravità. Ispirandosi all’osservazione del paesaggio circostante riflesso nelle acque della piscina, i progettisti hanno pensato di materializzare ciò che si vede specchiato sulla superficie dell’acqua - spiega l’architetto Lukas Rungger, responsabile del progetto e co-fondatore dello studio noa* - come se l’immagine fosse una rappresentazione fugace pronta ad essere convertita in realtà. L’essenza di questo progetto è il ribaltamento degli orizzonti, con il conseguente e etto di stupore per l’osservatore. Come la piscina, anche il nuovo centro Hub of Huts - situato in posizione speculare rispetto alla piscina - si stacca dal corpo principale dell’hotel per collocarsi su di una piattaforma sospesa a 15 m di altezza dal suolo e sorretta da due pilastri rivestiti con tronchi di larice. Sulla piattaforma, raggiungibile attraverso una passerella, una serie di microstrutture dal tetto a capanna ospita, su due livelli, il programma funzionale del centro benessere. Ma il vero elemento di sorpresa lo regala il livello inferiore della piattaforma, dove l’orizzonte subisce una rotazione di 180° e le capanne sembrano ancorate a testa in giù, sfidando apparentemente le leggi della fisica.

After designing there the iconic cantilevered swimming pool in 2016, the South Tyrolean firm noa* network of architecture returned this year to the Hubertus hotel in Olang, Pustertal valley, to design a new wellbeing area that appears to defy gravity. Inspired by the observation of the surrounding landscape reflected in the swimming pool, the architects decided to materialize what one sees mirrored on the surface of the water - as architect Lukas Rungger, project manager and co-founder of noa *, explains - as if the image were a transient rendering ready to be converted into reality. The very essence of this project is the overturning of horizons, with the resulting e ect of wonder for the observer. Like the swimming pool, also the new Hub of Huts - which is in a position symmetrical to the swimming pool - is also detached from the hotel’s main building; it is located on a platform hovering 15 m above the ground and supported by two pillars clad in larch logs. On the platform, reachable via a suspended walkway, a hub of microstructures with gable roofs hosts, on two levels, the functional program of the wellness center. But the real surprising element is the lower level of the platform, where the horizon undergoes a 180 ° rotation, and the huts appear anchored upside-down, apparently defying the laws of physics.

I due livelli del nuovo ampliamento di 460 mq progettato dallo studio noa* all’hotel Hubertus di Valdaora si caratterizzano per un diverso trattamento delle schermature, con spazi esposti nella parte superiore - dove si trovano vasche idromassaggio e docce panoramiche - e protetti in quella inferiore. Scendendo verso il livello inferiore - dove c’è il foyer, da cui si accede alle saune, alle docce e a una terza piscina all’aperto - la temperatura sale e l’ambiente diventa più protetto. Sembra come una discesa nel centro della terra, con il conseguente ribaltamento dei poli - è il commento dell’architetto Gottfried Gruber, supervisore del progetto. La scelta dei tetti a doppia falda è stata motivata da ragioni concettuali, di rimando all’architettura montana, e funzionali, in quanto accolgono nella parte capovolta del tetto l’impianto di depurazione della piscina e le gradinate per sedersi in sauna. Inoltre, lo sfalsamento delle capanne e l’orientamento alternato dei colmi permettono una vista a 360° sul paesaggio, vero protagonista del progetto. Anche la scelta dei colori e dei materiali richiama il paesaggio montano, con pannelli in alluminio dalle tonalità brune naturali che rivestono le cabine e lo spessore del solaio, formato da una struttura di travi portanti in acciaio. Le lamelle che schermano le vetrate sono dello stesso materiale e della stessa tonalità, mentre tutti pavimenti sono in ceramica in una nuance beige, tranne che nella sala relax, dove la pavimentazione è stata realizzata con legno di rovere oliato bianco.

The two levels of the new 460 sqm hotel extension designed by studio noa * for the Hubertus hotel in Olang are characterized by a di erent treatment of privacy, with mainly exposed spaces abovewhere the whirlpool baths and the panoramic showers are located - and protected spaces below. As one descends to the lower levelwhich houses the foyer, from where one has access to the saunas, the shower cabins and a third outdoor pool - the temperature rises, and the environment becomes more protected. It feels like a descent into the center of the earth, with the poles reversing - architect Gottfried Gruber, project supervisor, commented. The decision to work with pitched roofs is motivated by conceptual reasons, recalling a mountain village, as well as by functional reasons, as they accommodate in the inverted part of the roof the pool purification system and the seating tiers of the sauna. Moreover, the o set of the huts and the alternating orientation of the roof ridges allow a 360° view of the landscape, the real centerpiece of the project. Even the choice of colors and materials recalls the mountain scenery, with aluminum panels in natural brown tones cladding the cabins and the thickness of the slab, which is formed by a steel load-bearing beam structure. The brise soleil system that screens the windows is of the same material and color, while all the floors are light beige ceramic, except in the relaxation room, where the flooring is made with oiled white oak.
