Corporate Wellness
Evolve Nutritional Therapy’s corporate mission is to help employers use an evidence based approach to health and wellness so employees can achieve a decreased risk of chronic disease, and regain a healthy lifestyle that’s reflected in their work, home and community.
MANY STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT A CORPORATE WELLNESS PROGRAMS PROVIDES SIGNIFICANT RETURN ON INVESTMENT IN TERMS OF:
INCREASE EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY
BOOST ACQUISITION AND RETENTION
Companies with worksite wellness programs experience an 8% increase in employee productivity. (National Business Group On Health, 2005)
45% of employees agree that an employer-sponsored wellness program would encourage them to stay in their current employment situation, up from 40% in 2011. (Principal Financial Well-Being, 2013)
16%
In 2016 the industry average for employee turnover in the manufacturing and distribution was 16%.
With 130 employees at Sunstone Circuits: 87 working in manufacturing, 23 in upper management and 20 in desk/middle management positions the potential turnover costs to replace employees at a 16% turnover rate could be as high
With a 5% reduction rate in employee turnover due to employee wellness programs and nutrition coaching, Sunstone could potentially save $42,788.25 annually.
MEDICAL COSTS DECREASED
IMPROVE EMPLOYEE HEALTH STATUS
approximately $3.27 for each dollar a business spent on wellness programs (2013 Aflac Workforces Report)
10,000 steps a day is the recommended number for improving health, decreasing risk of disease, and leading a longer life. (American Heart Association & Surgeon General)
LESS SICK DAYS Companies that implemented a wellness program experienced a 28% reduction in employees calling in sick (Institute for Healthcare Consumerism) FINANCIAL RETURN ON INVESTMENT Harvard economists findings concluded that money spent on well-designed programs led to a ROI of approximately $2.73 for every dollar spent. (Baicker, Katherine, David Cutler, and Zirui Song. “Workplace wellness programs can generate savings. Health affairs 29.2 (2010): 304-311.)
The Center for Disease Control reports that employee sick days costs employers $1,685 per employee annually.
For Sunstone Circuits the potential cost of sick days with 130 employees is $ 219,050 annually. If the cost of sickness was reduced by 28% as reported by the Institute for Healthcare Consumerism due to a wellness program it could save Sunstone $ 61,334 annually.
THIS DOESN’T EVEN TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE CURRENT STATE OF OUR HEALTH AS A COMMUNITY:
86 mln The CDC estimates that nearly 86 million Americans have prediabetes, and less than 10 percent of them are aware of their condition. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “More Than 29 Million Americans Have Diabetes, 1 in 4 Doesn’t Know.”)
$344 billion More than one-third of Americans are overweight or obese. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Adult Obesity Facts.”)
By 2030, half of all American adults in the U.S. are expected to be obese (US Department of Health and Human Services Fitness.gov)
By 2018, it is estimated that obesityrelated healthcare expenses will cost the U.S. $344 billion annually. (US Department of Health and Human Services Fitness.gov)
Even for people at a healthy weight, a poor diet is associated with major health risks that can cause illness and even death. These include heart disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and certain types of cancer. By making smart food choices, you can help protect yourself from these health problems ( US Department Of Health and Human Services)
Based on the benefits a corporate wellness program can provide to battle chronic health risks discussed above, it’s no longer a question of whether companies should implement a corporate wellness program. Instead the question is how to design and implement a wellness program to deliver personalized and sustainable wellness results to employees. The usual reason for not implementing a wellness program is due to a lack of knowledge, resources and staffing. With Evolve Nutritional Therapy I am your trusted resource and have the knowledge and expertise to deliver sustainable results to your employees. I offer a number of different programs and services to ensure employees stay accountable, motivated and know they have a wellness champion in their corner dedicated to their lasting success and results.

Corporate Wellness Challenges
Wellness challenges are an amazing way to build community and foster a creative, supportive and positive climate of fun and camaraderie These challenges build community and support around developing a healthier lifestyle, and encourages employees to become internal wellness leaders and champions for developing healthier habits. The group mentality of these challenges allows people to share their successes with each other and encourages learning and helping each other. The net result is an overall more engaged and productive work environment where everyone performs at a higher level and creates a sense of community and support among employees.
What Makes This Challenge Different ? GOALS ARE PERSONALIZED These challenges will encourage the effort towards the completion of a task, with the goal of making sure that at any level of change an employee is at they will be able to experience success and accomplishment at an individual level. As an example for a challenge to sleep better some employees would be encouraged to get 7 hours of sleep per night, while others who are sleep deprived would be encouraged to get to bed 30 minutes earlier each night. Both getting 7 hours of sleep or getting to bed 30 minutes earlier is a win for each employees based on their readiness for change. To tell an employee who currently gets 4-5 hours of sleep to get 7 hours per night would be too much change for them to sustainably manage. In the long run this would only make them feel discouraged. The adjustment of getting to bed 30 minutes earlier each night gives them a low barrier to entry and helps to feel encouraged about the process when they start to accomplish that goal on a consistent basis. Eventually getting to bed 30 minutes earlier could be increased to getting to bed 45-60 minutes earlier, and over time getting 7 hours of sleep becomes a feasible accomplishment once they’ve increased their baseline sleep levels.
NOT JUST ANOTHER 30 DAY CHALLENGE Giving information is a good starting place, but if employees don’t have simple steps to follow that knowledge doesn’t do them much good. The goal is help employees make this a lifestyle they can maintain and build on, not a 30 day challenges that they throw out the window on day 31. This challenges was created as a way that helps the employees have a jumping off point for a healthier life beyond this year.
BUILD NEW HABITS, AND MAINTAIN THE PREVIOUS ONES TOO For an employee to create a healthier lifestyle it is a multi faceted approach that needs to address nutrition, movement, sleep and stress management. However tackling all these changes at once can be daunting and overwhelming for someone who is just getting started in their health journey. This is why we see people that are successful on a 30 day challenge, but then quickly revert back to their old habits soon after, because their attempt at adopting too much too soon can only maintained for a limited amount of time. On top of that the typical 30 day challenge has an end date to it which allows people to psychologically let themselves off the hook, but with an ongoing challenge that lasts a longer period of time it encourages improvement on old habits. Because an employee is in the midst of improving their nutrition during a challenge doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be rewarded for improving their sleep as well.
CARING The problem with a lot of cookie cutter challenges is that everyone is treated the exact same, and no one takes the time truly ask how their day is going, what their stress levels are like, and how their kids are doing. Engineering a healthy lifestyle is absolutely about nutrition, sleep, movement and stress management it’s also about connecting with someone, and creating a non judgmental place where they feel free to share what they need to get off their chest. That is exactly why people continued to come back to see me as their nutrition coach at Sunstone in the past. I took the time to ask how they were doing and get to know them on a more personal level. Because I took the time to better understand them we could create daily wins for them that were both individualized, and helped them feel encouraged by the progress they were experiencing.
