CAIRO RESIDENCE Back to the City Center
Located in a neighborhood in the center of Cairo, AL Dokki, the subject of the Design Studio V was to design a housing project. The main idea of the project is to tackle problems of the city and the neighborhood scale. The main problem of the city and neighborhood scale is the lack of public spaces. The project introduces a strategy to improve the situation of the neighborhood. The strategy is that the whole plot (ground floor) is used for the public with different qualities and uses. There are three different islands one for educational use (library), one for dining and gathering, one for a new formal market place inspired from the Boulaq market and finally an open sports & community area. The main strength of the project is that it found a new typology bringing different types of people together due to the different uses that attract different kinds of people.

As the project is in Dokki, which is a dense area the residents of the Islands on the public sea need their privacy. This is applied through the elevated gardens that are only accessed by the residents , which gives them a quality of having private open space that is still connected visually with the surroundings and public spaces. The diiferent functions and uses the project serves for the people solves the problem of living in the downtown and having to use private car to reach the needs.

Restoration Center Al Fustat, Cairo
Located in Al Fustat Cairo, the subject of the Design Studio III was to design a Restoration Center for the Egyptian Crafts. Al Fustat is known for pottery and nowadays this craft is discontinuing, so the aim is to make the Egyptian crafts flourish once again and especially in this part of the city. The design had 4 main keywords. Restoration that includes the four workshops of Wood, Metal, Stone and Pottery. The Educational, Training and Research that include the training classes and labs. The administration with offices for the staff. Last but not least the public area, which in this design is divided into two spaces, the courtyard inclosed by the building forms and the platforms. The facade is designed with perforated panels and 45 degree tilted louvers to provide indirect light in the building.

Downtown School Designing for Education
Located in Cairo Downtown, the subject of the Design Studio II was to design a School. As Downtown has its own herritage and historical essence the urban context is respected in designing the school concerning different aspects. The height of the adjacent residential building and leaving space between it and the school not to block its facade that has balconies and windows. Also the rythm and frames of buildings in downtown was took as an inspiration adding on that the color coding that is used in the design. The school is surrounded by a fence that is designed to be a boundary but also to serve inside and outside the school with the seating area in it, for example someone outside walking can sit. This idea was thought of to serve the community as Downtown is crowded but it does not have any public seatings for the people. The primary school has 12 classrooms and 6 group classrooms for 300.

URBAN MUSEUM Museum Island, Berlin
Located in the Museum Island, Berlin, infront of Bode Museum . The subject of the design studio was to design an urban museum. The main idea of the concept is to return to the roots of Berlin and to connect its contemporary post war surface to its historic grounds, through physically entering the Berliner Ground to experience the exhibitions of the world famous European paintings. The three voids: The underground museum contains three voids, The Void of Unity, Void of Struggle and the Void of Continuity, the vertical connection between the surface and the ground are the sources of light in the underground spaces. The architectural promenade through the spaces is unconstant and changing according to the quality of each space and its connection the voids. The overground Pavilion of the Museum, which is connected to the underground through the three voids, serves an urban stage to the public, for open exhibitions and everyday events. History Museum New Capital, Cairo
The History Museum is located at the heart of the administrative district at the borderline of its enormous park acting as a gate for the parliament with the adjacent national museum. The location is a meeting site of two main axis that differ in character and function. The cultural spine that is the main axis and is defined by the history and national museums, is a tourist hub and is generated from the upper to the lower part of the district with different cultural functions and leads on one side to the parliament and on the other side to the opera. The second secondary axis is the one in the park that takes one in a journey through the landscape and the buildings that generate this landscape from the national museum to the musical hub. The museum is planned to host a variety of different activities: exhibition spaces, an auditorium, a multipurpose hall, a restaurant, a gift shop, etc. The activities are diverse in the types of visitor communities they serve, in their operating hours, in their environmental requirements and in their interaction with the urban context. The building concept encourages undisturbed access to the building and even using it as a passage from a side to another, which makes it interesting for the user to experience various architectural scenes while having his journey throught he park. The location of the park creates different open public spaces on each of its sides with different scales. Dr. Hossam Salama 10th Semester 34

Sewing the City, the Citadel & the Sea Bachelor Project Barcelona, Spain
This project, based in Barcelona (Spain) , is my thesis & Bachelor project. This project is completed after staying for 3 months in Barcelona where the project site and design process took place. The project was devided into 2 main parts; conducting a masterplan in groups of 3 and then each individual takes part of the masterplan and completes their own design. The project site was located in Parc de la Ciutadella, which is somewhere near the center of Barcelona. The citys different fabrics were a very important aspect in the design process and were taken into consideration. The main masterplan showed the different fabrics and the main concept of the Drop & Spread of the green and public areas all around Barcelona. The concept mainly shows how the Parc de la Ciutadella which is the main focus, spreads within the city fabrics and creates more opportunies and spaces that serves the people and the city. Moving on to the individual project, the main conecpt was focusing on the connectivity of the Parc with Barcelonetta and solving the problem of the discontinuity of the city in that area that was caused because of the highway that cuts the city . Asten College School Palm Hills October, Cairo
Asten College is a School located in Palm Hills October. Generally, the school will focus on a high level of education, with particular attention paid to Arts, Technology and serving the surrounding community. This project has been a partner design process between Die Stadt & Gensler. Gensler has been engaged by Palm Hills Developments (PHD) to research, investigate, develop, and define the project criteria for the school. This engagement was broken down into four stages. Gensler was engaged with stage 1 & 2, which were the Pre-Concept Design & Concept Design Program. Die Stadt took over at Stage 3, (Schematic Design & Detailed Design), where Gensler handed over the work to Die Stadt as a subcontractor and local consultant to PHD. Die Stadt took on the role of drawing procurement / architectural documentation. My role in this project since stage 1 till stage 2, where gensler handed us over, was project coordination & attending joint workshops between Gensler, Die Stadt & the client in London & Cairo. I received everything from Gensler and communicated with the Client & with Gensler & the GAEB (General Authority for Educational Buildings). At Stage 3 & 4 I worked on the Architectural Drawings & attended meetings & presentations.

El Masyaf North Coast, Egypt
El Masyaf is a compound in the North Coast of Egypt. Die Stadt based its innovative design of the masterplan on connectivity, leading from the marina promenade, through the boutique hotel, up to the park, ensuring an easy walk to optimize accessibility for all its residents. In addition to the design of the master plan, Die Stadt designed the architecture of the vibrant southern village. With a beach front stretched over 1-km, El Masyaf covers 171 acres of naturally leveled land along the north coast of Egypt. Reconfiguring the typical ‘Sahel’ strategies, El Masyaf offers staggered chalets with a view of the sea next to standalone villas. Die Stadt extracted the Urban Design of El Masyaf along with part of the Architectural Design. We made 5 Prototypes of Chalets & staggered apartments. In this project my role was to design Protiotypes for the project.

Pyramids Heights Sahrawy, Cairo
The main concept of the design was to create twin houses, townhouses & condominium buildings prototypes with asymmetrical facades to give the compound a vibrant city like feel. Three different alternatives were created for the twin & townhouses & condominium buildings. The main inspiration for the facade looks were to have common fabrics from the old phase of Pyramids Heights, mainly brick facades. As of the interior architecture , the main concern is functionality along with the aesthetic. Different features were created in the design to develop the above mentioned vibrant feel in the facades, for instance double heights & courtyards.
