Hello, My name is Nada Dhaiba, and this is my portfolio. I am an architect and urban designer from Morocco, and am now based in Malmö, Sweden. I have gathered here a selection of projects implemented in Sweden, Czech Republic, Philippines and Morocco. Through my career and education, I’ve gained experience in architecture, construction supervision, urban planning and sustainability. I have three years of professional experience and have completed several internships. Today, I am focused on one main goal: to bring architectural and planning visions to reality through innovative design, and to develop diverse projects from the start. I am equally passionate about designing solutions as I am interested in the research and analysis, as well as the rationale of the project, Why, How, and For whom is this project. Right after finishing my masters in June, I submitted a proposal for Europan 16 on the Hjertelia site in Norway, with two fellow colleagues. I also submitted an individual contribution for Innovate4Cities which is organized by UNHabitat. I am now ready for the next step, and eager to gain more experience.

The aim of this Master’s thesis project is to propose a new development that harnesses the social, economic and environmental benefits of a productive city. This is achieved through the lens of urban agriculture as a catalyst for sustainable growth. Landscape elements and light structures

Populus trees can be used in the outer edge of the site, close to the highway. They can grow up to 2m per year, also constituting windbreakers.

Rowan trees have berries that are widely consumed by migrating birds and other wildlife. Soil cover containing dead organic material that offer nutrients, protect the soil, and control evaporation.

Fruit trees can be part of forest gardens and offer a canopy for low trees and shrubs.

Hawthorn shrubs and berries shrubs can be planted on the edges.

Chestnut trees are deciduous trees that can be found in the region. They contribute to CO2 absorption, as well as creating shade and recreational spaces. The pond deck allows users to get closer to the water. It also creates a sheltered environment for small insects and other aquatic wildlife.

Aquatic herbs contribute to biodiversity and their flowers are part of certain insects diets. Reeds also contribute to purifying the pond and help stabilize the edges.

A STARTING POINT, HAJE CENTRAL Location: Prague, Czech Republic Date: September - December 2021 Master’s program in sustainable urban design, Lund University Studio: Urban dynamics

Modernistic fabric

This project proposes a new urban development in the Haje area, located in the Praha 11 suburb. The aim of the new development is to bridge the new with the existing and develop public spaces to create social anchors and attractive nodes in the site. The main focus is the metro station and the main connecting street. The design project was conducted individually after the analysis phase that was conducted in groups, with a focus on the global influences on the city of Prague and a multi-thematic analysis of Praha 11. Framing the landscape: from the city to the coastline

REDEFINING THE EDGES Location: Ängelholm, Sweden Date: February - May 2020 Master’s program in sustainable urban design, Lund University Studio: Sustainable urban landscape

The aim of this project is to propose a new urban development that integrates the local landscape. I chose a site that is located at the outer limits of a productive forest, along the railway. I addressed the existing barriers in the site and how to create connections with the natural environment. Software:

BUILDING RESILIENCE Location: Ystad, Sweden Date: September - December 2019 Master’s program in sustainable urban design, Lund University Studio: Sustainable urban recycling This urban proposal is implemented in Ystad’s harbor that is going to be transformed from a commercial harbor to a mixed-use urban zone according to the municipality’s vision. In this design, I experimented with super blocks that enclose semiprivate areas spaces. The design process was largely impacted by design guidelines for climate adaptation, mainly addressing future flood plain and sea level rise, and managing the impact of prevailing winds on urban comfort. HARBOR DEVELOPMENT + TRADITIONAL CRAFTS CENTER Location: Safi, Morocco Date: September - June 2016 Master’s in Architecture, National School of Architecture-Rabat Semester: 11 & 12 (Thesis project)

MODEL BUILDING Model: Kronoskogen area, Ängelholm, Sweden Date: March 2020 Master’s program in sustainable urban design, Lund University Studio: Sustainable urban landscape Co-collaborators: Erica Välimaa, Matilda Alsterberg, Vito Hui Scale: 1:1000 Dimensions: 140*190 cm (approximate) Tools and software: Autocad, Rhino, Illustrator, laser cutting, physical model assembling and building. Material: Card board, Fiber board. The model was produced in collaboration with four other students. We brainstormed together the technique that would allow us to show all the relevant details while making a model that could be reused for individual projects. My contribution to the task: Preparing files for the laser cutter by verifying Illustrator drawings; assembling and physical model building.

This is our entry for a competition that was conducted as part of our studio. The aim is to propose public spaces in a modernistic neighborhood in Prague. The competition for ideas lasted five days during which we had lectures on relevant topics we should consider and have group work sessions. We presented a Masterplan, axon, sections, renders and visualizations to explain the concept, process and design principles. My contributions to the task: I participated to the brainstorming sessions for the concept and the Masterplan, and produced visualizations to explain the design principles, the concept and different situations. 58

Location: Manila, Philippines Date: February - June 2020 Master’s program in sustainable urban design, Lund University Course: Climate smart architecture & urban design Co-collaborators: Anastasiia Berg - Isak Jannert - Pimrutai Maneekorn The aim of this project is to design an urban proposal based on CFD simulations and solar radiation analysis in order to present an urban form that contributes to improving the micro-climate comfort in the site. My contribution to the task: Preliminary simulations on Simscale, updating the design proposal according to the results, and drawing the final Masterplan with sections and visualizations to show the urban qualities that we propose.

The proposal aims at presenting strategies that aim at preserving the natural and built environment by using an ecological approach, inspired by the genius loci of the place and the local know-how. My participation in the group work: I contributed to conducting household surveys, presenting an analysis and a technical sheet about techniques and material to improve mobility and accessibility, brainstorming and designing the Masterplan.
