Aycock Residence Master Plan Garden of My Own Dream House Caldwell Corridor Redesign
For this project, I was given the task to redesign UGA’s new Environmental Design Building. The building was just opened in the Fall of 2012 but the landscape was left in its’ pre-development stage. I took a curvilinear approach with the walkways and decided to show off some of the school’s identity by creating a series of rain gardens and implementing some porous pavements. The planting material will be mostly native species that show off the South’s planting palette.

The Aycock Residence project was one of my favorites because I got to design it for an actual client and there was a possibility that they make implement a few of my design elements. The clients wanted the design to focus around an outdoor patio space where the could entertain guests, a naturalistic amphitheater, and an area for an outdoor bathtub/shower where they could enjoy the outdoors yet remain hidden from their neighbors. I created a large stone outdoor patio with a two-tiered water feature and added on to the existing shed to make the bathroom. The tub would be next to double doors that could be opened up in the Spring and Summer months but could also remain closed in the cooler months. I decided to use boulders to create the amphitheater with a small stage for entertainment purposes.

For my garden, I decided to redesign my existing backyard in to the perfect place to play a pick-up game for football. I molded the topography to create D ³VWDGLXP OLNH´ ERZO DURXQG WKH SOD\LQJ ¿HOG E\ UHDUUDQJLQJ WKH H[LVWLQJ topography to the north, and adding some berms around the southern end. 18” tall seat walls were placed in various locations along the slopes to create bleacher seating. I used a few types or ornamental grass to grow around the perimeter of the site to cut down on the noise and to give the site a sense of secrecy.

Garden of My Own
For this project I was given the freedom to take an event that means something to me and design a space to signify that. Every Thanksgiving my family and friends get together to play a football game. The problem is we always had to travel to find a space to play it. I decided to change my existing backyard in Roswell, GA in to a place to play that football game. I moved the existing retaining wall to fit the space and created a series of berms to give it a “stadiumlike” effect. I also put in a few 18” seating walls to resemble bleacher seating. This project wasn’t meant to be installed anywhere, but to allow me to show off

This was an earlier project where I was given a piece of land in Atlanta, GA and told do design my dream house on it. My idea of a dream house included a long, windy driveway that ended to a medium sized house. I included a large pool and a tennis/basketball court to meet my athletic needs. I put a pond in the back yard with a dock for a small fishing boat and a series of trails that meandered through the woods.

This project centered around redesigning the corridor behind the College of Environment & Design’s old building, Caldwell Hall. The existing corridor ends in a small parking lot which makes parking and turning around very tough to do. I designed a rounda-bout to make that easier as well as added raised walkways throughout the road to slow down cars and to make the space more pedestrian oriented. Existing Conditions
