SITE DESCRIPTION AND CONCEPTUAL PROJECT The ground is located in the city of Morelia, inside the ITESM Morelia Campus (Institute of Technology and Higher Education of Monterrey, Morelia Campus) just in front of the existing building.

This project was a proposal for our educational institution “Monterrey Institute of Technology, Morelia Campus” which is a 15 years old campus and it just has one building. Because of the increasing demand and good reputation of the Architecture and Design School of the campus, we saw a necessity of new specialized spaces, hearing and living the student life and converting them into a building.

The predominant current wind comes from the south-west. We took care of this phenomenon in our design to help our building stop those strong wind currents and, otherwise, to take advantage of it by ventilating the place.

I had to always think about taking advantage of the great view this place has, using the remarkable ramp the site has.

This project was made while my international exchange in Curitiba, Brazil. My professors gave me an already made house project so I had to develop the landscape project. The users were a young couple formed by a swimmer man and an artist woman who likes to cultivate her own vegetables.

6.

5.

The principal spaces needed by the users were a swimming canal, a home orchard, a private space for reading and outdoor painting and finally spaces for social events. I also decided to add some elements to the house facades to bring shadow and comfort to the interface between the house and the exterior spaces.

The design concept of the exterior place was the harmonious sequence of materials and a simple use of them. The different spaces were place according to their use and the level of privacy required, using the level changes of the site for achieving the atmosphere each space needs.

Considering the importance of this intersection because of its connection with the existing neighborhoods, the existence of public transport routes and the presence of a primary avenue, it is fundamental to think about a future adaption with the design of a friendly transition between the existing neighborhoods and the new development. Following the New Urbanism principles, the results in the development interface will be of integration and inclusion, improving the quality of life of the people that surround the mixed housing development.

SHARED STREET DESIGN Existing street.

The street is located in “Paraiso” neighborhood, behind a hospital that ignores the existance of the street. It is currently used as parking lot and it has narrow sidewalks, however it has commerce that attracts a notable amount of people every day.

COLLABORATIVE DESIGN CHALLENGE Temporal intervention.

Consisting of low-cost changes like painting on the floor, flower pots and vegetation, tables and chairs, it may start considering the constant transition of pedestrians through the street and decreasing the speed of the vehicles, in addition to create a more pleasant space.

Permanent intervention.

Good quality pavement, new public lighting and permanent urban furniture. This characteristics will take advantage of the street potential, generating an enjoyable place to walk and to stay.

Project information: Project site: São Paulo, Brazil Date: March, 2017 Type of work: Collaboration with Yuval Fogelson of Urb-i

In this design challenge I take as reference the lack of cultural spaces in the zone, therefore I propose a new use to that space, currently used as a parking lot, replacing it with a cultural outdoor workshop. It was from the new space that I designed the adjacent public space, becoming an attractive and safe shared street.

URBAN SPACE MAPPING AND INTERSECTION DESIGN

The safe intersection design was based on the recognition of urban obstacles and dangerous crossings, using a technological tool as “Mapillary” and also hard data registered by COEPRA (Accident prevention State Council) about occurred accidents with different kind of injuries and its location on a map, giving as a result those dangerous intersections that have to be redesigned as soon as possible.

Morelia Se Mueve Festival

Morelia Se Mueve is a recently emerged organization composed by citizens concerned about the decisions made by the government in the mobility and public space subject. We have worked specially to stop the implementation of highways, offering different better alternatives to the population.

At the end of 2016 we celebrated the organization achievements at a citizen festival where we developed different informative areas related to mobility, from the illustration of different infrastructure design alternatives, to health issues.

I participated particularly at the “recreation zone” where we organized an urban intervention linked to a safe crosswalk that used to be on that exact same place before some road replacements. We aimed to involve children on the design creation of the crosswalk.
