Can A Christian Eat Halal Food?

Halal food refers to food that are approved to be eaten by the Muslim followers according to the Islamic law. It is all right to eat halal meat as long as you pray and offer thanksgivings for the food. This is because the food will be consecrated after you have offered thanksgivings through prayer. Before you eat, you should offer thanksgivings and pray for the blood of Jesus Christ to cover your meal.

Jesus Christ teaches us that nothing that enter into our bodies can defile us. This is because the food that enter into our bodies will also come out of the bodies in the form of excretions which you pass out when you go to toilet (Mark 7:14-23). In Acts 15:29, Paul addressed the people that they can eat anything except food sacrificed to idols, blood, and meat of strangled animals. All food are created by God for human beings (1 Timothy 4:4-5).

In 1 Corinthians 8:7, some people think that eating food offered to idols is equal to worshiping idols because they have a weak conscience. A person who think eating halal food is not OK should not eat it because it will cause him to think a lot. Worrying and thinking a lot is a sin. It gives the devil opportunity to attack you. You can read about eating food offered to idols in 1 Corinthians 8. You must always be alert and not give the devil any foothold in all that you do (Ephesians 4:27; 1 Peter 5:8). Anything that is not done in faith is a sin (Romans 14:23).

Eating halal food is actually okay and there is no sin in eating it. On the other hand, if a Christian with a weakness in this area is near you, you should avoid eating it since doing so will destroy his faith. Everything you do must be to build up and edify others. Eating or not eating a food will not bring us closer to God (1 Corinthians 8:8). You will be the same if you eat or not eat a food.

Christians must strive to achieve peace in everything they do including the food they eat (Romans 14:1323). If you strive to achieve peace in all that you do, you will please God. Loving others is the most important duty of every Christian because all commandments of God hang on this commandment (Matthew 22:34-40; John 13:34; 1 John 4:19-21). You are to be a good role model to others and win souls to Christ (1 Corinthians 9:10-23).
