Exhibition Antoni Simon Mossa 1916-2016 The association “Mastros – signs and projects for Mediterranean city”, which is composed by architects and others professionist, investigate the work of the architect Antonio Simon Mossa (1916-1971) in his different periods. Logging into the personal archive of the architect, which is composed by over 500 original projects, the association aims to valorize the work of the author in his value and historic relevance. On the centenary of his birth, the association has edited and set up the first exhibition about Antonio Simon Mossa in the spaces of “Lo Quarter”, Alghero. The exhibition shows the original drawings of projects that try to make understand the professional evolution of Antonio Simon, in addition to various sketches and personal objects that denote the versatility of the character. The installation was created on site with the material available to the museum and lights and showcases rented for the occasion. We chose to use a black background and punctual lighting to bring attention to single project. The panels contain architecture drawings and the cases contain objects and sketches. We use an acetate sandwich system to protect the boards, system that allows easy transport in view of future exhibitions. Authors: assoc. Mastros

A thermal park as a service system for the Coghinas Valley (N.Frau, G.Deriu) The research put the attention to the geothermal resource in Sardinia. The objective of the research is to understand how geothermal energy and thermalism can be connected with territorial and urban dynamics of Sardinia, studying in particular the case of the Lower Coghinas Valley, territory concerned, , by an important geothermal anomaly as various scientific studies demonstrate. We tried to use the resource to link with the context enhancing its characters. Coghinas river is the main element of the territory, its creator; this led to identifying it as a line for the accumulation and diffusion of thermal waters. With the design of a thermal park that connects to the river system, we want to provide the Lower Valley with a system of services that allows the city to live a common urban life. We tried to shape the relationship between river water and thermal water, recognizing the riverbank, which defines the floodplain area of the river, as the anthropic element to which it is possible to link in order to define the system. The embankment is conceived as an “habitable wall that becomes in some places building, widening towards the plain to find the thermal water which has the power to dig it and inhabit it, bringing the attention on surface hydrography, the dominant element of the territory. The material of the embankment, a soil element, has dictated the architectural choices of the buildings, made in cob. We consider a part of the embankment between two natural hills, that allow us to think a controlled and defined future development. The carefully study of the valley and its connection with the villages give us the placement of interventions, thermal baths with touristic and curative sense fed with geothermal energy. relator: G. Mixedencity

Productive Cities - Europan 14 The architecture of the past century gives to the architects a new way to think the city development. We cannot think the city as a static element, but as an organism with a constant evolution. In the digital age the space where the people live and interact each other is more virtual than real, so it’s hard to understand how the architecture can think and shape spaces that technology subdivides. Can the architects think a space more near to the contract spaces of virtual reality? Our project idea revolves around the idea of virtuality, fascinated by the constant change and the quickness with which internet compare us. The project try to transfigure this thinking, starting from the need to answer to a specific request: a large surface destined to contain a considerable variety of functions inside a small perimeter. That’s the problem that we can see in the city as a whole: the need to densify parts of the city and the safeguard of good life quality, diversifying the functions in the logic of the mixed-productive city. Located in a strategic site inside the new urban district that the municipality intends to create around the Amterdam-Sloterdijke Station, the project belongs to urban logic that introduce a way to think the densification as an inclusive and contemporary value. The need to densify the area, maintaining inclusion and diversity, has led us to think a fragmented space that allows a continuous and hypothetically infinite alternation of spaces and functions, that let the people live there different moments of the day. We use a platform system to create a sequence of “layers” conceptually infinite in both horizontal and vertical direction, that allows to create a fluid and diversified space on each floor; the platforms, together with its structure of pillar, tends to defragment itself in both directions to catch light and green, to focus views, to create open-air spaces. The proximity to the building of Mediacollege, with its creative profile, contributes to the Amsterdam brand as Creative City, has led us to think whole building as a forge of creative industries, a building that become a hub for the surroundings. The requested expansion of Mediacollege give us the opportunity to connect our platforms structure with the existing building of MA, with some volumes that allows to create public spaces that become an attractive square for the whole neighborhood. The home, the frame, the hand

The exhibition “the home, the frame, the hand at the Tribu museum in Nuoro shows the sardinian living reality in the 1800s. The frame, as a knit or a weave, in the shapes of the roof, the wall, the fabric texture, is part of the house in all its aspects. We tell the house through the eyes of its inhabitants: the children that discover the public and private spaces through the game; the women that work at home with the chassis; the men, builders of their own home. To create a multisensory exhibition we use the light in different ways: sometimes we light particular elements to put attention in them, sometimes we don’t use the light almost at all; in this way the visitors can discover the space by all five senses. teacher: A. 33 Expansion of cemetery in Nughedu S. Nicolò The project involves the expansion of the cemetery of Nughedu S. Nicolò, a small town in central Sardinia. The steep area is connected to the existing cemetery on its higher side, and to the town square on its lower side. The aim is to create a cemetery-park in which cemetery activities are combined with leisure activities of a park. The project is built around two elements: the orography of the terrain and the path already present between the cemetery and the main church. The path goes beyond the old cemetery and leads the visitor through a paved terrace destined to pay the last respects, then through a flat green park in the lower side of the area, beside a series of green terracing, obtained on the steeper part of the area, destined to the burial. teacher: J. Thermal bath in Nimes The project provide to create a thermal structure with receptive functions within an area bordering the Jardin de la Fontaine in the city of Nîmes. Starting from an analysis of the inhabited center, it is evident that there are tree-lined avenues that relate to ancient elements of reference, including the Jardin de la Fontaine. The park is located at the intersection of two main city boulevards: Quai de la Fontaine, which connects the old town to the park and Av Jean Jaurès, which connects the Jardin’s structured entrance to the 19th century town. The park is divided into two green systems: the romantic English gardens that develops on a hillside and the structured system of eighteenth century that is like a basement that contain historical pre-existence. The area of intervention lies in the eighteenth century of the gardens, so the project idea is to consider our new element, that of the spa, in relation to the historical pre-esistencies present in the gardens; the spa structure is then defined by a pavilion which becomes a reference element of the park; the language is the typical one of the pavilion, with walls that structure the building by placing on a basement, inside which the thermal tubs are dug. The receptive functions are solved in a tower, a vertical element that defines the boundary of the park, whose façade refers to the element of the spa by connecting with it
