SCPD vows to safeguard and protect rights of PWDs

Act. Resource person, State Project. Manager (SPM), National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), Khriezovonuo Lhoungu highlighted the various opportunities and provisions for PWDs under the NSRLM in the state. She encouraged the disabled community to take active participation in all the available opportunities.

DC Mkg informs: In regard to nomination for Governor’s Award 2023, for distinction in arts, music and literature, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh has invited deserving candidates for examination and consideration by the District Level Committee. DC said the recommendation, if any, should be submitted to this office or the office of the district cultural officer, Mokokchung on or before April 14, for further necessary consideration.

DIMAPUR: State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Nagaland, Diethono Nakhro has informed that State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD) will ensured that all possible steps will be taken to safeguard and protect the rights of PWDs in the state.

Diethono made this statement while speaking at the state level disability leadership workshop on April 13 at Tourist Lodge Dimapur, organised by SCPD, government of Nagaland in collaboration with Nagaland State Disability Forum (NSDF).

She encouraged the PWDs to be aware of their rights to safeguard them - selves from any type of possible discrimination and harassment in the society.

Highlighting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwDs) Act 2016 and its provisions, Diethono stressed on the importance of leaders in the disabled community and disabled people in general to be well versed and aware of their rights to get access to all kinds of services, schemes and provisions that were made available to them by the government. She also underlined the importance of education for PWDs as well as the need for advocacy to ensure the proper implementation of the various provisions of the RPwDs

NSDF president, Vikengunu Fatima highlighted the formation and functions of Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs), and senior executive NSDF, Kezhaleto Zecho spoke on the need and importance of accessible sports facilities in Nagaland for sports persons with disabilities.

NSDF joint secretary, Ngaugongbe Hega highlighted briefly about NSDF and aims and objectives of the forum, while program coordinator SCPD, Ashe H. Kiba spoke on the ground reality of PWDs in Nagaland. The programme ended with an interactive session with participants. The workshop was attended by 63 persons with disabilities from all the districts and 14 others, including caregivers and resource persons.

NNC/FGN to observe: Naga National Council (NNC) and the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) has informed that it would be observing the 33rd death anniversary of A.Z. Phizo, father of the “Naga Nation” on April 30, 7 a.m. at Phizo Hill, Kohima, Nagaland. All fellow Nagas have been requested to participate in the function.

KNCA informs: Kuzhami Baptist Churches Association (KBCA) would be organising ordination cum licensing service on April 30, 11 a.m. at Kuzhami Baptist Church Chümoukedima.

A&C informs: Directorate of Art and Culture has informed all members of State Library, Kohima, those who have not renewed their membership, to do so on or before July 5, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (office hours), failing which their membership would stand cancelled.

The family of Mount Tiyi College deeply mourns the demise of its Principal, Dr. Kezhangulie Metha who passed away on 14th April 2023. He was a gentle and kind person who worked with utmost sincerity and dedication. His goodness and generosity radiated to all the people around him. With his untimely demise, the college in particular and the Department of Higher Education in general, has lost an intelligent, wise and visionary man.
