Church leaders sensitised on malaria elimination ATMA, KVK organise trainings, demo for farmers

DIMAPUR: With an aim to improve and increase agriculture production in Nagaland, Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) blocks and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) organised trainings, demonstrations, field day and various other activities for farmers.

DIMAPUR: One day awareness seminar on malaria elimination for church members under Longleng district was conducted by National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases Control (NCVBDC), Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Longleng office on April 19 at the Conference Hall, CMO Longleng office.

A press release by CMO Longleng office informed that spokesperson, district vector borne consultant, A Nyumoi Phom gave a PowerPoint presentation on malaria elimination, ancient history of malaria, causes and its risk factors, preventive measures from malaria infections, testing of malaria, Dos and Don’ts.

NBSE issues directives to schools on health of children

DIMAPUR: Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has notified all schools registered with the board to ensure health of children suffering from Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (TIDM), and adhere to the directives issued by the board.

According to a DIPR report, NBSE has informed that National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), has taken cognizance on the petitions received from parents of the children diagnosed with juvenile diabetes or Type 1 diabetes in the country. Since children spend one third of the day in school, NCPCR maintained that it was the duty the schools to ensure that children with TIDM are provided with proper care and required facilities.

In this regard, NBSE notified all schools to adhere the following directives -

A. A child with Type-1 diabetes, who requires a midmorning or mid- afternoon snack should be permitted by the class teacher to consume it.

B. The child can participate in sports as advised by medical person.

C. Children with Type -1 diabetes giving their school exams and other competitive exams may be considered for the following-

1. Permitted to carry sugar tablets with them.

2. Medicines/fruits, snacks, drinking water, some biscuits/ peanuts/ dry fruit should be allowed into the exam hall and kept with teacher, if required these items shall be given to children during the examinations.

3. The staff should permit the child to carry a glucometer and glucose testing strips along with him/her into the exam hall which may be kept with Invigilator/ Teacher.

4. The child should be permitted to test blood sugar and consume the above-mentioned items as per requirements.

5. Children using CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitoring), FGM (Flash Glucose Monitoring) and/ or insulin pumps have to be given permission to retain these devices during exams as they are attached to the body of the said child. In case a smart phone is used as a reader, it may be handed over to the Teacher/ Invigilator to monitor the blood sugar levels.

Assam Rifles carry out various welfare activities across state

Battalion under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General of Assam Rifles- North (IGAR-N) dedicated rostrum and football ground, conducted awareness programmes, plantation and cleanliness drives, meetings and provided assistance to villagers across the state.

Oting village: Assam Rifles dedicated rostrum and football ground to village authorities and people of Oting village, Mon district on April17.

Youths present during the event were made aware about free recruitment training provided by Assam Rifles and were further motivated to join the same.

Ngwalwa village: Assam Rifles battalion conducted awareness campaign on “Waste management and disposal” on April 15 at Ngwalwa Village, Peren. Villagers and youth were briefed on how government is accelerating the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put the focus on sanitation.

A brief introduction on malaria and its causes was given by malaria inspector NCVBDC, Rongsentemsu.

The seminar was attended by pastors, associate women pastors, Christian educators, youth pastors, youth secretaries, church members from churches under Longleng district.

Mokokchung: With an objective to exchange views and experiences directly with the farmers on different problems in agriculture and allied sectors and to provide technical guidance, one day farmer-scientist interaction programme was conducted on April 17 at Mopungchuket Village, Kobulong Block by ATMA Mokokchung. The resource persons were ACTO (agronomy) KVK, Yisemyong, Imtisenla; SDHO Tuli, department of horticulture Mokokchung, Dr.Imchalemla; VAS, AH & Vety. Services, Mokokchung, Dr.Sentirenla Longchar; AFI, department of fisheries and aquatic resources, Mokokchung, Neken andAFA, district agriculture office, Mokokchung, Lanuchuba. The resource persons sensitised the farmers on millets and its dietary importance, insect pest and disease management in horticultural crops, fishery pond management and composite fish culture, awareness on deterioration on soil structure by usage of salt, proper care and management and procurement of swine. Further, discussions based on queries raised by the farmers were carried out in several topics like reduction in paddy yield, management of fall army worm in maize, training and pruning of citrus trees, postpartum paralysis of sow and retarded growth of fish in fishery ponds. Altogether

25 farmers and 12 officials from agri and allied, and ATMA attended the programme. Peren: ATMA Peren block on April 17 organised a field day at a ginger and yam field in Kejanglwa village. Resource person, Block Technology Manager (BTM), Lipokjungla Ozukum briefed the farmers on the field preparation for the ginger, seed selection, treatment and cultural practices like weeding, mulching and sun solarisation to enhance soil fertility and minimize erosion. During the interaction session with the farmers, queries related to pest and post harvest management were answered by the Assistant Technology Managers (ATMs), Kibale and Shanchothung. The field visit concluded with the farmers weeding and preparing the ginger field with proper spacing between beds.

The importance of planting trees at individual level were also imparted. Around 18 villagers participated in the programme.

Peren district: Assam Rifles battalion conducted an awareness campaign for women across multiple locations in Peren district on April 15. Lectures were conducted to spread awareness among women and villagers on how women’s empowerment equips and allows women to make life-determining decisions through the different societal problems.

The villagers were also briefed about economic development and sustainable employment opportunities through various schemes and programmes of the government and the opportunities for girls in education centres and further in career growth.

The lectures also covered the career opportunities in Armed Forces and various entry schemes into Sainik Schools and further into National Defence Academy. A total of 44 villagers attended the lecture.
