KVS recruitment scam unearthed in Ladakh, 1 arrested

LEH, FEB 28 (PTI): Police here on Tuesday claimed to have unearthed a Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan recruitment scam and arrested a person in connection with the matter.

A search is on for the other six accused, police officials said.

According to a police spokesperson, the alleged scam came to light following an investigation into a written complaint made on February 11 by a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya teacher Pradeep Kumar who was discharging his duties as an observer for the KVS recruitment exam.

Kumar alleged that while the exam was being conducted in the GCOM computer centre in Leh, the site supervisor of Aptech company, which has been hired by CBSE to conduct the examination, was caught clicking pictures of the computer in which question papers were visible. During the preliminary inquiry, it was found that the accused had clicked the photos and forwarded them to a staffer for Lamdon online assessment centre situated in Leh, the spokesperson said.

Upon questioning him, it was revealed that he was instructed by company co-owners to get the photos for lodging a complaint with CBSE so that they will change the examination centre from GCOM to their computer lab, the police official said.

India hosting meet amid increasing rift between Russia, West on Ukraine conflict

(PTI): Foreign ministers of G20 major economies will meet in the national capital on March 1 and 2 to deliberate on pressing global challenges amid escalating confrontation between Russia and the West over the Ukraine conflict that entered the second year this week.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, France’s Catherine Colonna, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, Germany’s Annalena Baerbock and British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly are among those attending the India-hosted meeting.

However, Japanese media reported that Japan’s foreign minister Yoshimasa Hayashi is unlikely to attend due to his “scheduling conflict” with the parliament session. Hayashi’s visit was seen as important in the backdrop of a plan to have a foreign ministerial meeting of the Quad countries on the sidelines of the G20 meeting. People familiar with the visits of the top G20 foreign ministers said External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is likely to hold a series of bilateral talks on Wednesday including with his counterparts from Russia and China.

The G20 foreign ministers meeting is taking place days after a gathering of finance ministers and the Central Bank Governors of the G20 member countries in Bengaluru failed to come out with a joint communique over sharp differences between the Western powers and Russia-China combine over the Ukraine conflict.

Fontelles, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajan, Australia’s Penny Wong, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Indonesia’s Retno Marsudi and Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero are also among those attending the GCOM computer centre. This was because in the Lamdon computer lab when the exam was being conducted some candidates, all non-locals were brought and helped with the papers. the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting.

An FIR under the relevant section of law has been registered at Police Station Leh and an investigation was taken up by the SIT, the spokesperson said.

Besides participating in the G20 meeting, a number of foreign ministers are set to take part in the Raisina Dialogue, India’s annual conference on geopolitics and geo-economics.

Bandi Sanjay Kumar later said in a statement that he and other party leaders from the state briefed the central leadership on the “successful completion” of 11,000 street corner meetings under the programme “Praja Gosa – BJP Barosa” (people angry, trust in BJP) to target Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao-led government.

Summer to be hotter: IMD

(IANS): The India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday that during the upcoming hot weather season (March to May), above-normal maximum temperatures are likely over most parts of northeast India, east, and central India and some parts of northwest India.

“Normal to below normal maximum temperatures are most likely in remaining parts of the country. The month of March, otherwise considered to be springa transitionary month to summer - is likely to record above normal temperatures over most parts of the country except peninsular India where normal to below normal maximum temperatures are likely,” it said. There is a higher likelihood of heat wave conditions over central India even in March.
