Ranji Trophy semis: Jackson, Arpit lead Saurashtra’s fightback vs K’taka; WB continue to dominate MP
NEW DELHI, FEB 10 (IANS): Fantastic centuries by Sheldon Jackson and Arpit Vasavada led Saurashtra’s fightback against Karnataka while Bengal continued to dominate defending champions Madhya Pradesh on the third day of their respective 2022-23 Ranji Trophy semi-final matches on Friday.
At the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, Saurashtra were 364 for 4 at stumps, trailing by just 43 runs against Karnataka with Arpit Vasavada (112 not out) and Chirag Jani (19 not out) unbeaten at the crease.
Sheldon Jackson was the star performer for Saurashtra on Day 3 with a 245-ball 160. He also stitched a vital fourthwicket stand of 232 with Arpit Vasavada.
Earlier, Karnataka began the day on a positive note with Vidhwath Kaverappa dismissing Vishvaraj Jadeja for 22. However, Jackson and Vasavada led Saurashtra’s recovery and also gave them control in the game.

Kobe Bryant’s jersey from MVP season sold for $5.8 million

(AGENCIES): A Los Angeles Lakers jersey worn by Kobe Bryant during his only MVP season in 200708 fetched $5.8 million at an auction on Thursday, becoming the second-most expensive basketball jersey ever sold, auction house Sotheby’s said.
Michael Jordan’s jersey from the opening game of the 1998 NBA Finals holds the record for the most expensive piece of game-worn sports memorabilia in history after it sold for over $10 million in September also via Sotheby’s.
Bryant, an 18-times All Star and five-times NBA champion, died in a January 2020 helicopter crash that also killed his daughter and seven others.
Sotheby’s website said the jersey was signed by Bryant and worn by him in 25 of his 82 games that season, including six playoff games.
“Leo felt muscle fatigue, he will resume training on Monday. He is not uncertain for Bayern. We know the importance of Leo in our game. In his absence, we’ll have to play in a different way with a more solid, more compact team structure.

Tennis: Top seed Schwarzman bundled out of Cordoba Open
DIMAPUR, FEB 10 (NPN): Norman Putsure College, Chumukedima, held its first sports week from February 7 to 10. The Inaugural session commenced with flag hoisting and torch lighting ceremonies on February 7.
The students were divided into four houses, namely- the Aqua house, the Ignis house, the Terra house and the Ventus house. The contest amongst the four houses was the flag competition and a total of about 20 indoor and outdoor games were played. To appraise and acquaint the younger generations, two indigenous gamesthe bamboo stilt race and the greased bamboo pole climbing were introduced.
The Ignis house emerged as the champion of the first sports week of the college. The programme culminated with prize distribution and closing ceremony.
It may be mentioned that the college sports week was part of the co- curricular activities of the college which is to induce and motivate the students to be physically active.
