Page 1

Menorca is located in the east of Spain We’ve decided to go to Menorca due to these reasons:  We think this place is beautiful.  It has an enjoyable climate.  It is not very far away from home.  All of us love this island.  There are a lot of interesting places to see We have decided to travel by plane on the second week of June. The price of this flight will be 312, 71€ each one. Round trip. We will be taking the plane at 8:00 on the 6th of June, Monday. As there’s a transfer in between, we will need to stop in Barcelona at 9:05 the same day to take again another plane, so we need to wait until 13:00 (3h 55’)

WHERE ARE WE GOING TO STAY?

We will stay in a hotel called “Oasis Menorca”, this hotel offers a restaurant and a shared garden. It is located in the historical center of Ciudatella, in Menorca. The hotel is 5 minutes by foot to Santa Maria’s cathedral Their rooms show a vintage decoration and come with a private bathroom including a bath, desk, ceiling fan and a wardrobe. In addition, there are bed sheets, blankets, and a daily cleaning service. Guests can also enjoy a breakfast in the café and in the garden. This building also is home to a bar, which provides a daily menu. There is free Wi-Fi connection in every of the common places of the hotel. http://www.hostaloasismenorca.es/#

On the first day we will be exploring “ciudadela de Menorca”. We will explore walking so we won’t have to pay any transport. Starting from having breakfast in the hotel

After walking for a few hours, we’ve decided travelling to the Cathedral of Menorca, built between the centuries of XIII and XIV over an ancient mosque, makes this huge monument the most important gothic building of Menorca.

After exploring and familiarizing with the city, we have decided the 2nd day will be the perfect day for a bit of walking to Sant Nicolau castle.

It is very near to the center of Ciudatella, there is the chance to go walking. It is also very easy to park, and we think it is a good walk going along the edge of the sea. 15 min walking. We will be very hungry after that! Next stop will be “Restaurant Es Passeig

As we have read, this 4 star modern pizzery is perfect if your stomach growls!

When our stomachs are full, we will need a bit of relaxing, but first, we will walk 30 minutes to finally arrive to this beautiful beach that is near to another hotel (Hotel Playa Santandria Menorca) His crystal wáter captivated our attention from the very beginning, that’s why this enchanting beach is going to be our next stop.

On the 3rd day we will visit Mahón, where is the lighthouse of Favaritx. It’s so gorgeous!

At 8:00 we will have breakfast in the restaurant of the hotel. Then, at 9:00 we will take a bus to Mahón. The cost of this bus will be 5,10€ each one so we will spend 20,40€ on the transport. The bus will let us in Maó, a city where we will stay during the morning. After walk around the city, we will buy some food in the supermarket of Mahón, lunch and go by foot to the lighthouse of Favaritx, where we will stay during the afternoon. The price of the food that we will buy will be around 20€. At the evening we will take another bus to return to our hotel. The price of this bus will be the same as the first bus that we will take in the morning, 5,10€ each one.

At the night we will have dinner in the restaurant of the hotel and then we will stay relaxed in the bedroom. We will spend around 50€ on the dinner. We think the 4th day is perfect for do some sport, so we have decided that we will go to Mercadal, where Monte Toro is, the highest mountain of Menorca. First of all, we will have breakfast in the restaurant of the hotel at 8 o’clock and then we will go to the nearest grocery store so buy some food for our little journey to Monte Toro. After the purchase, we will all meet in the bus stop to leave. The cost of this bus is of 5€ each one, as the bus stops in the city of Mercadal, we will have to go walking to finally arrive to the mountain. It lasts an hour to get to the top of the mountain. We will be prepared for that, we will carry a backpack each one containing the most common: -Water -Mobile Phone -A map -Wallet -Food

Since this mountain is quite high (315 m) we will wear sport clothes and a pair of trainers. Once we get to the top. We will take a moment to appreciate the views seen from up there. It’ll be a rough day, and that’s why after that we will treat ourselves with a welldeserved lunch in one of the restaurants of Ciudadella.

THE COVA SA NACRA RESTAURANT! After showering in our hotel, we will come out and start walking to arrive to this unique mediterranean restaurant. It has a brilliant view over the water and the beach! We deserve this after that long walking right?

With our stomachs covered, it’s the time to return home, well, our hotel Oasis. Back to walk those 30 minutes again!

As we will be tired after that, we will return to the hotel to sleep all the evening. After sleep we will dinner in the restaurant of our hotel. The price of the dinner and the lunch will be 30€each one, so we will spend 120€ + 10€ of the bus today.

Today we will get up very early, we have plans to do!

Expecting the 5th day will be a sunny day, we have planned to go to a unbelievable, impressive, gorgeous, famous place. Most known for it’s clear water… CALA ‘N BRUT! We don’t have to forget our suncream if we want to sunbathe there! It’ll be very hot. You can see under the water very clearly without any type of goggles. It’s really beautiful. Well, we have to get there somehow.

We can go walking, or by bus, but to explore the isle we have decided the best way is to go by foot.

We thought this cove would be further away but it’s just an hour from our hotel!

Once we are roasted, we think hunger will attack that’s why we will be having lunch, but not near the cove, because we haven’t found restaurants that caught our attention. We will be moving back to Ciudatella to Cas Ferrer de Sa Font Restaurant, we’ve read great reviews from this restaurant. It is a homemade restaurant.

Reviews talking about Cas Ferrer de Sa Font:

“Most of the people dining were Catalan which is always a good sign! If you are after delicious traditional food then this is your place - the arroz cremoso and lamb were really delicious. The food isn't particularly inventive, but is solid. Service was average.”

“Simply great produce beautifully cooked. Service relaxed but prompt and attentive so things must have changed since some of the other reviews! One of only two restaurants that we returned to during our stay. Recommended.” “Best Restaurant in Menorca we went to. Local and organic food, delicious and super friendly staff.”

“I spent 2 weeks in Ciutadella , and we have tried quite some restaurants out. Ca's Ferrer is my favorite one. The staff is warm and friendly,

The food is delicious, well presented but not pretentious.

I have 3 kids, from 1 up to 11 years old, and we were all happy. The prices are adequate.”

Hm… we are wishing to go there!!

Once we are finish we will go to Arte Pedrín Gallery We’ve heard that walking 5 minutes there’s an art gallery. Arte Pedrín Gallery

We are not very interested in anything related to art but we are curious to see what they’ve got to offer. Let’s see if they can change our minds.

In the 6th day we will visit “Cala de Porter” which has some beautiful views and a cave of the 5th century before Christ.

At the morning we will have breakfast in the hotel. Before going to Cala de Porter, we will go to the supermarket of Ciutadella for food, because we will need to have lunch in Cala de Porter. The price of the purchase will be 50€.

Later we will take a bus to “Cala de Porter” which will cost 6€ each one.

We will stay in Cala de Porter all the morning and after lunch, we will go walking to the cave. We have read that the road to the cave has a lot of flowers and beautiful things. We want to go there a lot because the cave has an interesting history, so we are very excited.

We also have heard that there are kayaking courses to sail through the sea, we think it is interesting. We would like to explore things all together, it’ll be a nice experience for all of us. We would also get fit!

The route

Cala en Porter, the starting point of this route, has one of the largest residential areas on the south coast of Menorca. On the left-hand side of the beach there is a slipway that will help us launch our kayak. Paddle eastwards following the coast. Just before we leave the beach we will see a small cave under the houses. Once away from the beach there is a cave in the cliff, Cova d’en Xoroi, which, according to legends, was once a hideaway for pirates but which now is more famous for its discotheque.

The first interesting spot we come to is Racó Alt i Fondo, which has a small cave that is hard to see until you are almost on top of it. We have to make sure we enter when the sea is calm; on the left there is a small breach that will take us back outside the cave if we push ourselves through with our hands and lean back over our kayak. Or, alternatively, dive in with our goggles to explore the cave and the colorful water at its exit.

Continuing along the coast, we come to the Llosa d’en Pudent and, next to it, another narrow cave. Turning our kayaks around in this second cave is quite an adventure! A few metres further on is the inlet of Racó d’en Pudent, with an open cave and many fallen rocks. This is another good place to snorkel and to explore the island’s underwater habitats. Leaving this inlet and between two small headlands we come to a place popularly known as Racó del Enamorats, where we can also rest awhile. From here, a series of small caves accompany us as far as the entrance to Cales Coves, a sheltered, twin cove where there are usually a lot of boats moored in the summer. After finishing all this kayaking, we will have to pick up our arms because we are pretty sure they will be melt at the end of this activity. But, whatever, we will have a great time.

It was entertaining, but time to return home reaches. So, around 8 o’clock we will return to the bus station, to catch a bus to the hotel. We will be hungry so we will be eating everything that the hotel offers in his dinner!

This will be our last day in Menorca, so we have to enjoy it to the fullest! We have to take the plane at the evening so we can enjoy the morning, staying in the hotel and walking around Ciutadella.

First of all we will have breakfast in the hotel, and then, we will pack our bags to go, if at 12 o’clock we will have our bags prepared, we will have free time until 18:00, so we can lunch in Ciutadella. The price of the lunch will be 50€.

After that we will go to the airport and we will take the plane to return to Bilbao’s station.

We guess we will have to wait for our parents to show up in the airport to pick us up. Around 10 minutes. But we know they care about us and that they’ll be there quarter an hour there before we already land in Bilbao’s airport.

The total price of our journey will be 2431, 24€ including the transport, the hotel, lunch, dinner etc. The budget price was 3000€ so we haven’t pass over to the estimate price.

We think that we will enjoy a lot this journey.
