CHECKING YOUR CHECKER‌ Short tutorial with screen shots to assist in setting up the MSWord Spelling and Grammar Checker to use your tools effectively.
MSWORD TOOLS… The most effective tool a writer has is in the MSWord settings for Spelling and Grammar – also known as “Proofing” tools. When writers work, even the most experienced writers may make mistakes or errors in the writing. Most colleges and courses recommend that students set aside their paper for a day or two to allow review of the paper with a “clear mind”; however, this luxury is often not afforded to writers working in our industry. Enabling the correct functions in your “Proofing” options will provide you with quick solutions, to avoid common errors in your work.
STEP ONE‌ 
Begin by opening your MSWord program, you may do this by opening a document or simply starting a new document.

DICTIONARIES…
Custom dictionaries are useful in helping reduce the amount of “errors” detected by the Spelling and Grammar checker that are not actually errors. You can select “Add to Dictionary” when running the Spelling Checker – avoid using this when you know the spelling will only be accurate for a single document. For example, I may name a character Eldion, but I would not save that name in the dictionary unless I know I will work with this name often in the future. However, I may save “programme” as this is a common spelling for “program” outside the US.
