Moment Of Fame 2010 Rietveld Fashion Show goodie bag Stefanija Najdovska
In fashion shows there is a constant presence of flashing cameras. During this year’s Reitveld Fashion Show, the audience enhanced this atmosphere by returning the photographers’ flashes with reflections from silhouette cameras given as goodie bags.
Sketches and idea
Fashion is a moment in time. It happens, and passes. Every season there are more, newer but not always better, collections coming out. During fashion shows, these collections are being shared with a public. However, the next day already, it is all “so yesterday”. So, what is the point then? Why does fashion exist? I’d like to think of it as a very special experience, and knowledge we gain. Through out history, fashion managed to reflect what was happening in society, economy, politics, the goals and dreams of people, all over the planet, in one way or another. The Rietveld Fashion Show is about students coming out in public usually for the first time, showing their very personal and special collections. This is their moment to shine, and it is only logical that all lights should be put on them and their work. The goodie bag idea was born! I decided to enhance the presence of camera flashes, which appear and go away, capturing a moment in time, as fashion does. To show the very personal approach in the work, I made a hand drawing of a professional camera flash attached to a disposable camera, that was engraved onto a sheet of transparent Plexiglas, becoming a wearable goodie bag. The top of the flash was covered with a reflective strip, that would shine once exposed to even a minimal light source. Every visitor received a goodie bag, from which the cameras could be taken off and worn during the show, mimicking the flashes. The moment in time was “Moment Of Fame”.
