ARCHITECTURE AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITY Instructor: Manar Moursi 2018 The goal was to provide the people with complete autonomy from institutions of power and create a self-sustaining community. I analyzed the communal aspects of the given site and created a central building for the inhabitants of the area. I incorporate an urban farm within the house along with a greenhouse on the south side of the building. The plan follows strict axial symmetry that centres itself around a vaulted dining hall on the first floor. The vault extends upto the second floor to reinforce this heirarchy of the space.

INTROVERTED HOUSING BLOCK Instructor: Nima Javedi 2017 The project was conceived by a simple statement: A Wall. A wall that cuts off the rapidly gentrifying neighbourhood of King St. West, Toronto and fosters within itself a self-sustained community targeted towards the low-socio economic population of the city. The residential units hug the interior of the wall with balconies as the main mode of circulation, thus becoming the streets and a hub of activity. The design creates a central courtyard that houses the amenities therefore acting as a key player to life inside the building.

VISUAL ART My art practice brings together the traditional art practices from Pakistan with the contemporary mediums that I’ve explored in Toronto. I explore cultural relations that influence the treatment of South Asian bodies and landscapes. Over the years Pakistan has endured various attacks. I address these attacks in my work and reclaim our identity. US AND THEM Instructor: Joanne Tod and John Massey Installation, 2018 When war strikes and people are killed, they leave traces of their life behind. Their presence lingers in their empty spaces and their forsaken possessions. In my installation I bring back the relationship that people have with their belongings. The footage of a Drone attack from 2016 that destroyed civilian properties is projected on a domestic space which resembles a lounge. The space is curated to speak of the innocent lives impacted by the warfare in the occupied Waziristan, Pakistan. vimeo.com/272063056

Mera Pani - Conversations With Water Toronto Artscape Residency Performance, 2019 This performance addresses South Asia’s recent water devastation and highlights the militarization of Punjab’s major rivers which results in the lack of access to water for the public. I perform the traditional women’s dance moves with a matka - a South Asian water vessel at the lake. Once inside the water, these dance moves transform into a struggle to fill water from the lake. The push and pull of the crashing waves and the endeavor to fetch water depicts the tense relationship between people and their waters. It also explores women’s labour in the act of fetching water as they are the primary users of matkas. Upon my the arrival to the shore I discover that the matka is filled with grenades instead of water, an act that explores the militarization of water.
