#20SHOTSFORCHANGE

This is a hashtag I decided to start this so I can encourage people to donate to a cause that matters by including a fun challenge.

Issue My issue is homelessness in Chicago. This is an issue care about because everyday I see homeless people on the streets. Some of my friends live in the local shelter by my house. Seeing my friends going to that shelter everyday makes me realize how blessed I am, how blessed everyone with a roof over their heads are. Other people should also care about this issue because we all are blessed to have the many things we have and take for granted.

What did I do? For my nonviolent intervention I decided to do a basketball shooting challenge. For this challenge I took 20 shots from the freethrow line. Each shot is worth $1. So for every shot out of 20 you miss it the total amount of money you donate to an organization, group, or program of your choosing. I choose to donate to a shelter.

Why I did this? I started this challenge because I wanted to do something to support people experiencing homelessness. My way of supporting people experiencing homelessness in Chicago was by donating money to a local shelter in my neighborhood. I also felt that if I can get people to help others locally, people will unite rather than coexistence.

How I did it? I used a indoor basketball court to shoot 20 shots from the freethrow line. I also had my friends help me by getting my rebounds and recording the video. I uploaded both videos of me shooting to youtube with the hashtag .(#20shotsforchange)

Shooting

Reflection I missed 8 out of 20 free throw shots and made 12 out 20 shots. I was supposed donate $8 but I decided to round my donation up instead. I was able to challenge a friend to participate in this challenge.

Donations

I donated $10 to Cornerstone Community Outreach in Uptown, Chicago.

Getting People Involved I challenged my friend Paolo to participate in a shooting challenge and he accepted. Instead of shooting free throws, he wanted to do something different. He shot three pointers instead. He donated $5 dollars to an organization of his choice.

Was it successful ? My intervention was successful and it went as I planned.

What did you learn? I learned how I can encourage people to give what they can for change towards for a issue locally and globally. I learned that donating and volunteering to help bring change in your community can bring people together. I learned how I can use social media to get my ideas and actions towards bringing change out to society.
