About Me Born in Shanghai I moved to Sydney 7 years ago to complete my tertiary education. In 2016, I graduated from the Honors Program within the Bachelor of Interior and Spatial Design at The University of Technology Sydney. The four-year academic program focused on conceptualization and spatial planning, spanning from the scale of the human body within the interior, to the city and its network of stakeholders. I enjoyed the challenge of each project and the development of my design process. Now graduated, I am looking for employment within the interior design and architecture industries to further my skills in spatial design, as well as contribute to the team through my knowledge and creative thinking.

Most cultures rituals or planning respond to nature, be it seasonal or orientation or habitation. This connection is usually suspended for monetary opportunities, for example; Fossil fuels are prolifically used to transform economies, which inversely damaged the natural environment and culture connections. Kurnell is a reminder of this inverse relationship of economic priority over nature. The site became unprofitable, so its discarded and what’s left are industrial machinery and positioned land.

Algae, a living organism, has great potential to create a true circular economy and restore reciprocity between human manufacturing, habitation and nature. This radical process requires a re-think on living and working. The commune is built within the discarded oil refinery at Kurnell, which is surrounded by fractured parklands, residential zones and infrastructure. The contaminated environment can be remedied with the use of algae. Though cultivating algae, bio-products such

as extracted oil, dried algae cake and powder algae for energy production and windows for the commune. Treated rainwater will supply the commune, its greywater will be flush threw a pipe system into the algae ponds. The CO2 generated from paper production feeds the algae within the commune windows that provides shading for living space. The algae within the windows grows and is source of fuel for the power plant. The commune is a circular economy where humans and algae co-exist. This reciprocity restores the cultural-natural balance and vivification of the site.

The position for the 21th century design school needs to accommodate both knowledge and participation. The design school should offer the learning environment to be fully support the youth innovation and creation. Material science with actual building construction always take long way to get together and even harder for whom still in the learning stage. By integrating technologies with expertise is aiming to enhance the learning experiences. As well as providing the cutting

edge device and opportunity to test out the smart materials,is encourages the future architect to be innovative and brave. The conversation occurs between the human and building via highly active experiment and collaboration. Thus the building space take account of the mobility and adaptability while giving challenge to whom always thinking and make the changes.

The Fact of todays society, in reality of the industry, designing buildings, landscape architecture or urban development all requires substantial fund and limitation by clients. In compare to 20 century’s’ mass production, nowadays, technology largely increased the possibility for design to be innovative and specialized. In which, less amount of time and cost is achievable due to the resource is more open and flexible to the public.

‘Architecture operates as both representation and instrument for the display of a nation’s history and its artistic heritage as the active ingredient of continuing cultural development. It is at once sign and agent of a living history.’- Anthony Vidler 33

Michel Foucault: ‘The absolute real space reflecting virtual analogue’. The design scheme is to maximize freedom for the prisoner within what still be a controlled environment. A development from absolute punishment and humiliation towards a generous and refined solution of remand thus it formed an idealized model of remand center.

36

Building 5 located in National Art school once stood as the notorious execution block and located at the north east corner of the site overlooking the Green Park. The building was a icon of the 19th century prison. Nowadays, prison is seen as an agent of both punishment and education. A radical change of the Darlington Gaol must be made as both reflection and reaction.

Reflect against the iconic geography that stood for primitive justice. The chapel act as the reflective axis, the remand center is placed next to the courthouse in the geometry formed by the square - a symbol of law and justice. Acting pragmatically, the location looks more welcoming to public in compare to the triangular gallows.

Global Studio - Prague Quadrennial

As participant in the Prague Quadrennial 2015, our project was construct and display a model that representing Yallourn that loaded in Victoria of Australia. It is a small town that has been distorted by the expanded collection of the brown coal mine, that used to provide the rise of economic and infrastructural services for the Australian population. The model offers a critical reading of Yallourn and presented in Prague Quadrennial in Czech republic as one of the university from Australia. This is a unique experience to me that working on one big scale model with a large group having 16 mumbers and one tutor. Also we have been offered great honour to represent UTS to join the

event of the PQ2015. It is also the very first time of me being in europe the place I always wanted to visit. The whole study trip was full filled with excitement, joy, stress and frustration. However we learned, managed, co-oprated and enjoyed the journey and this would ever last in our memory.
