THE AGE OF MIRACLES BY ELENI FROM GREECE “It’s never the disasters you see coming that finally come to pass – it’s the ones you don’t expect at all.” A novel by Karen Thompson Walker Eleni Prokou

The Age of Miracles My favorite book is called “The Age of Miracles. The story’s protagonist is Julia, a teenage girl. The story opens when Julia awakes only to discover that something has happened to the rotation of the earth. The days and nights are growing longer and longer; gravity is affected and everything is thrown into disarray. In a world of danger and loss, Julia faces surprising developments in her personal world. Divisions widening between her parents, strange behavior by her friends, the vulnerability of first love, a sense of isolation and a new rebellious strength.

About: Karen Thompson Walker was born and raised is San Diego, California, where The Age of Miracles is set. Despite being her debut novel, it has received plenty of positive comments and critiques. In fact, Michiko Kakutani of The New York Times hailed the book as a “clever mash-up of disaster epic with sensitive youngadult, coming-of-age story.

The Belgian detective Hercule Poirot boards the Orient Express. One of the passengers requests his protection, but Poirot declines. The next day the passenger is found dead in his compartment and Poirot is asked to solve the case. The train is forced to stop due to a snow drift blocking the tracks. This gives him a few hours to figure out the murderer's identity before the local police take over the investigation. During his investigation, Poirot discovers that many of the passengers have some connection. This could be the vital clue to crack the case, but can he do it in time?

The book was incredibly well plotted, and left you admiring the writer’s skill in showing how clever her detective was to uncover the mystery. I really enjoyed the surprising twist at the end too. I would highly recommend this action-packed book to anyone who enjoys detective stories.

URBAN OUTLAWS AN UNSTOPPABLE TEAM A MIND-BLOWING MISSION BOOK REVIEW BY THEODORA E- TWINNING “IN THE LIMELIGHT”

URBAN OUTLAWS

Author: Peter Jay Black 5 kids  World famous hacker Jack  Gadget geek Charlie  Free runner Slink  Communications chief obi  Decoy expert Wren 1 mission

PLOT

This book is about a group of orphans trying to fight against crime. From their base a hidden underground refuge they plan secret missions against the greatest villains of all time. But their action doesn’t remain confined to that refuge. Jack, Charlie, Slink, Obi and Wren not only do they hack into villains’ systems but they also donate their stolen money to the orphans and poor people. During their last mission the kids find themselves in serious trouble when they're caught in an epic battle to control Proteus, a genius super-computer. Proteus can crack any code in the world and steal top-secret documents in nanoseconds.

FAVOURITE PART

My favourite part of the book is when four of the kids get trapped from one of their opponents into a tiny room. With no gadgets and just a knife and a handful of cables they manage not only to escape but also to steal that high-tech computer, Proteus, preventing their opponent from robbing all the banks of their city.

WHY I LIKED THIS BOOK

Urban outlaws is an action-packed book which will appeal to all teenagers aged from 11 to 15 years old. First of all, the plot was really fascinating in and of itself. But the plot combined with the vivid descriptions of the author made me not wanting to stop reading. I would highly recommend this book to all the adventure and technology lovers out there.
