Nina Simon I’m Nina Simone, an American singer, songwriter, musician, arranger, and civil rights activist. I spent all my passion and pride in my music, but i couldn’t stand racism. I wanted blacks to be proud, to be free, to accept their talent and passions and be free from any criticism. That’s why I wrote songs like ‘’Brown Baby’’ or ‘’Young, Gifted and Black’’. I knew how racism hurt blacks and I wanted them to find strength in my songs. However I decided to cultivate my talent despite my fears and finally I became one of the most famous jazz singers in the world. 5

The view of the Earth from space remains with me, as it does with so many astronauts, as “a planet at once so beautiful and so fragile”.
