Hieroglyphics From the Greek words “hieros” meaning “sacred” and “glypho” meaning “I carve.” Faster method: Hieratic 7th century B.C.- Demotic. All 3 systems remained in use until the Christian Era.

Napoleon’s French Expeditionary Force…..  Village of Rashid (Rosetta by Europeans) in the western Nile Delta.  Primary Creditor- JeanFrancois Champollion (1790-1832) for deciphering hieroglyphics in 1822.
