DIRECTOR’S WELCOME 大校长的欢迎词 Thank you for taking a moment to learn about Nansha College Preparatory Academy (NCPA). All of us here on the NCPA team are proud of our school and the noteworthy accomplishments of our students. NCPA offers a very unique opportunity for Chinese national students to experience an international education. We believe that our school blends together the very best elements of China and North America in an innovative, educational setting. Our staff of highly trained instructors teaches a U.S-accredited, English language-based curriculum to a talented, student body drawn from across China. Our mission is to deliver a comprehensive education to our students that will empower them to achieve academic success here and in college. The NCPA experience begins with a rigorous academic program where students are challenged and excited by what they learn. Learning is at the heart of everything we do at NCPA. Our philosophy of learning includes social, emotional, physical and character education as well. We believe this holistic approach to education is essential to the future success of your child. One of the drivers of our students' success has been NCPA's groundbreaking English immersion program. NCPA is a founding participant in the World Language Initiative (WLI), a program developed by one of our parent organizations, the International Schools Service of Princeton, New Jersey. Accordingly, our school is very deliberate and intentional in the way we deliver instruction here. We make a significant investment in staffing every department with EAL specialists who help plan and deliver lessons across the organization and we ensure that effective EAL teaching happens every day. NCPA's attention to building literacy in English and leveraging students’ native Chinese is the key to unlocking content in our courses. The quality of our program further derives from our faculty. Our teachers have been recruited from some of the very best schools from all over the world. They are experienced educators, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what they teach, and absolutely committed to our students' learning. Our teachers strive to develop close relationships with their students because understanding them is critical when supporting their learning. It also is important to our educational program that our students know our staff cares about their welfare and academic success. This year, 2016, marks an auspicious moment for us! In early June, we saw the culmination of all our teachers' and students' diligent work. Our first group of high school seniors graduated from NCPA and every one of them earned multiple acceptances at prestigious universities in North America and Europe! Moreover, we now have a full set of data on our graduates' performance on the rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) exam battery. Almost 90% of our class of 2016 earned at least one passing score on the AP. Based on data from the College Board, our performance is comparable to that of the highest ranked schools in California and better than those in Illinois and New York. Considering that most of these students came to NCPA as English language beginners, these achievements are remarkable! I do hope you will consider NCPA as your student’s academic “home!" Choosing a school for your youngster is a huge commitment; I am convinced that the more you learn about NCPA, the more you will come to agree that this is a special and rewarding place. INNOVATIVE NCPA was selected by International School Services to become a World Language Initiative (WLI) EAL Catalyst School: “The WLI EAL Pilot Program ‘Catalyst Schools’ offer enriched approaches to curriculum design and instructional delivery that intertwine English-language development across all content areas. This holistic and comprehensive approach helps students learn to use language and literacy to master academic content, think creatively and critically, collaborate, and self-reflect. Moreover, EAL learners and families are welcomed, included and supported. Language learners feel respected for their dual or multi language achievements, and are fully supported in a system that is designed to enable their success across the curriculum.” - The WLI EAL Program RESEARCH-BASED NCPA has adopted Stanford University’s Six Key Principles for English Language Learner (ELL) Instruction as a cornerstone of our program. These principles guide our entire faculty in ensuring that students successfully meet the rigorous demands of standards-based instruction while supporting English language acquisition: 1.
Instruction focuses on providing ELLs with opportunities to engage in disciplinespecific practices which are designed to build conceptual understanding and language competence in tandem.
2.
Instruction leverages ELLs’ home language(s), cultural assets, and prior knowledge.
3.
Standards-aligned instruction for ELLs is rigorous, grade-level appropriate, and provides deliberate and appropriate scaffolds.
4. Instruction moves ELLs forward by taking into account their English proficiency level(s) and prior schooling experiences. 5.
Instruction fosters ELLs’ autonomy by equipping them with the strategies necessary to comprehend and use language in a variety of academic settings.
6. Diagnostic tools and formative assessment practices are employed to measure students’ content knowledge, academic language competence, and participation in disciplinary practices. COLLABORATIVE EAL teachers and content teachers co-plan lessons and co-teach in the mainstream classroom. DATA-DRIVEN As a member of the World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) Consortium, NCPA assesses the listening, speaking, reading, and writing English language proficiency levels of our students. This data is used to inform instructional practice by differentiating instruction and assessment based on student needs and to measure student growth.

NCPA faculty are screened and interviewed through the services of ISS, Princeton, New Jersey. All faculty meet high standards in their qualifications. All are credentialed in their areas of assignments, including the specialists, and bring with them a great amount of teaching knowledge and experience. All of our teachers have Bachelor’s Degrees and most also have advanced post graduate degrees, and some have doctorate degrees. After School Activities (ASA) provide a way for NCPA students to learn and experience new and exciting skills. There are three types of ASA: Club, Sport, and Competitive Sport. ASA Clubs are centered solely on hobbies and interests students have that our teachers are able to help facilitate. ASA Sports offer a wide range of activities that allow our students to get active after school. Finally, Competitive Sports offer NCPA students the chance to be a part of a team, a family.
