K NIGHT W ATCH Naperville Knights of Columbus Council #1369, 615 E. Ogden Ave., Naperville, IL 60563 Napervillekofc.org

Grand Knights Corner By Terry Ross I am truly hoping that we are having some warmer weather by the time this reaches all of you. The month of June brings to a close the Fraternal year. On June 2nd, we hold our most important meeting of the Fraternal year, the election of our Council’s Officers for the next year. I hope you all are able to make it to the June 2nd meeting. Only those in attendance are able to vote for next years officers, so it is important from that aspect that as many of you as possible are present at the next business meeting. The way the election normally works is that a slate of Officers is presented to the Council. A nominating committee is established and in our case normally it includes the current Grand Knights as well as the Financial Secretary and our three Trustees. Here is the slate the nominating committee has come up with for the next Fraternal Year for the various Officers positions: Slate of Officers 2009 – 2010 Chaplain Grand Knight Deputy Grand Knight Treasurer Recorder Advocate Chancellor Lecturer Outside Guard Inside Guard Warden Trustee 3rd Year Trustee 2nd Year Trustee 1st Year

Fr. Tom Milota Bill Beckwith Gerry Ellensohn Randy Stall Frank Collura Len Pawlek Jim Snyder John Gallagher Paul Christin Bob Merten Mark Peters Terry Ross Jack Guasta Charlie Breier

The Financial Secretary position is not listed above as that position is appointed by Supreme. I am very happy to advise that Al Knoeck will be our Financial Secretary for the next three years. In all cases, Al handles all aspects of this job “above and beyond” the call.

The above men are a suggested slate of Officers. Any of you can come to the meeting on June 2nd and put your name or have your name put into nomination for any of the above Offices. So it is important for you to be at the next meeting if you wish to run for one of the offices listed. The installation of our new Officers and Directors will be held on Saturday, June 27th following the 5:00 p.m. at Saints Peter & Paul Ministry Center Chapel. Father Milota has a previously scheduled event already planned for that evening, so we will have Father Dong install the new Officers and Directors. We will gather at Giordano’s in Downtown Naperville for dinner after the installation. The Council will pick up the cost of the dinner for those Officers and Directors who attend along with their spouses/significant others. All member of the Council are invited and welcomed. We need to let the Restaurant know by Sunday June 21st an approximate head count. If you and your spouses wish to attend there will be a cost of $20.00 per person for those no being Installed that evening. I am still looking for more Volunteers to help with the beer tent at Ribfest on Sunday evening July 5th. Please call me at 630-2699022 if you are able to help. Vivat Jesus, Terry

Message from Father Milota Dear Brother Knights, Praised be Jesus Christ! Summer is finally here. Sometimes this time of rest and relaxation can become a vacation from God. Especially as Knights, Christ is the center of our lives and we know he will never take a vacation from us. Therefore, it is an act of love and fidelity to make sure that Mass is a priority even when we are traveling. I remember some time ago someone came into the sacristy asking for a dispensation from their Sunday obligation, because they were traveling. I asked them where they were going…the reply…Rome! Ouch! If you are not aware of that city’s nickname, it is “the city of churches.” Please take time this summer to rest in our Lord. By the way, join SSPP for the Feast of the Sacred Heart and our patronal feast day weekend. We will celebrate the world day of prayer for priests in our front quadrangle the evening of June 19th; on June 20th we will host Fr. Mitch Pacwa who will be speaking to us about St. Paul at the close of this Pauline Year; and celebrate the 11 am Mass with Bishop Sartain on June 21st. For more information please log onto the webpage: http://wdppjoliet.wordpress.com. Many of you may be aware that the Knights have an excellent web-presence. They have started two separate sites designed specifically to help us be better fathers and better Catholics. The first is called the “Fathers for Good” web site: www.fathersforgood.org. “The theme for the launch of the web site is “A Father’s Identity,” which offers men resources on how to build a strong, loving and confident identity in a culture that often does not value fatherhood or masculine virtues. The web site also offers sections on male spirituality and building a better relationship with God, topics that are often overlooked on other male-oriented sites.” The Knights have also launched a site to help us learn more about our faith with a program called “Pod casting the Kingdom” which is a catechism course put together by Dr. Peter Kreeft from Boston College. Take a listen at www.kofc.org/cispodcasts. You can also order the booklets or download it in writing from the same webpage. Mmmm! I am getting an idea. Something that will thrill the kids. When making that long road trip you can listen to the pod casts in the car…priceless! Have a happy and blessed summer! In Christ, Fr. Thomas Milota

After nearly twenty years of overseeing the R.E.A.C.H. (Religious Education for children with Special Needs), Jean Pociask is retiring. The class meets on Saturday mornings throughout most of the year. Our contributions to this ministry would not have been of much worth if it weren’t for her hard work and dedication. A bouquet of flowers was presented to her as token of the Knights’ appreciation. Jean was also very fortunate to have many dedicated volunteers every week - some of which were there even before she started. This is also the last year for them. They are Vivienne Balcita, Racquel Balcita, Tom & Carol Parks, Jillian Pociask, Joanne Sheahan and Kathy West. Jean, along with her volunteers has been a very positive influence on each of these very special children. We wish all of them the best in all of their forthcoming endeavors and again really appreciate all of their time and effort serving in this very important ministry. For those who are not aware, there is also a RE Class for Adults with Special Needs which meets every other Wednesday evening. It is headed up by Andrea Yaeger. She is assisted by Jennifer Matern. Several of the older students from the Saturday morning class will now be joining Andrea and Jennifer on Wednesday evenings. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Andrea and Jennifer for their time and effort and wish them all of the best in the transition.

Knights Memorial Mass & Brunch The memorial mass for deceased Knight and families will be held June 7th, at the 9:30 a.m. mass in Saints Peter and Paul Chapel. Brunch will follow at the Holiday Inn Select in Naperville at a cost per $17.00 person. Council #1369 will cover the cost of Knights widows. For additional information contact Dan Parker

Knights of Columbus Bean Bag Toss Tournament Our Council will be sponsoring a Bean Bag Toss Tournament on Sunday, June 28th from 3:30 to 7:00 PM. It will be held in the parking lot at the KC Hall. This is a TEAMS only tournament, whether they are men, ladies or couples; you will be competing against each other. Tournament play and rules will depend upon the number of entrants. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams. The number of teams is limited to 24. We plan on setting up six courts in the gravel area of the parking lot. If you have access to a set of platforms and some bags, please let us know – we would like to borrow them. In that the KC lot will be closed that afternoon, you will be able to park your cars in the lot that is north of the KC Hall (please enter on Wright Street which is the first street west of the hall). Council #1369 Business Directory Over the past several years it has become apparent that many of us have little knowledge of our Brother Knights, their businesses, or their professions. Some feel that having the availability to such information would enable us to better carry out the Knights of Columbus principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity. There have been numerous suggestions that our Council develop and maintain a directory of businesses and/services offered by our Brother Knights. During these tough economic times, it does make sense to support our Brothers to the extent that we can. Brother Knight Larry Pociask has agreed to take up the challenge of developing a "Business Directory." The guidelines for the directory are outlined below. Please contact Larry at 630-355-1789 or icpjhp@earthlink.net for additional information or if you would like to assist in this endeavor.

Knights of Columbus Business Directory Guidelines 1.

Each participant will be allowed one 81/2 x11 sheet for their advertisement and information / business cards. It will be kept in a clear protective pouch and filed in a binder.

2.

Two originals will need to be submitted – one for a booklet at the hall and one for safe keeping.

3.

Once enough of them are received, they will be categorized.

4.

At some point, an abridged version will be made into an excel sheet (that is if someone volunteers to do this) and included on our web page (whenever that is up and running).

5.

There is a fee of $10.00 which will cover any costs and provide funds for our council hall upkeep. A $5.00 fee will be charged for any changes or updates

6.

The directory will remain at the council hall, but copies of it could be dispersed as deemed appropriate.

7.

All information should be sent to Larry Pociask at 1303 Brush Hill Circle, Naperville, Illinois 60540. 630-355-1789 lcpjhp@earthlink.net

8.

Once this is up and running, the upkeep could be handed off to another knight.

Awards & Recognition VIP Club Gerry Ellensohn

The only stipulation is that each participating Knight must be in good financial standing with our council.
