The Boy's May Festival (Duanwu Festival)
The Tango (Tango no Sekku”端午の節句”) is called the Boy's Festival as well as Iris Festival will be held on May 5 (5/5) Gregorian calendar in the present, then become a national holiday of the "Children's Day". In some areas to take the 5th June of the lunar calendar as it is custom that Tango this day began with China, Chu in the 3 rd century BC. People wish good health and well-being for hanging iris or mugwort with strong aromas from eaves or taking a bath with iris putting in. Because leaves of iris reminds the sword, Tango became the festival of the boy, so that people pray healthy growth of boys since the Kamakura era around 1185-1333. After Edo era (1600-1867), Celebrate for hopes of the success in life and growth of boys in an upright position with adorning the Armor and the Helmet protecting body and putting up a carp streamer. Also a rice cake wrapped in bamboo leaves is eaten at baby's first annual festival (the festival of the first boy is born), and a rice cake wrapped in an oak leaf is eaten as a mascot of luck, "headship of family is not cut off" from "oak leaf" does not drop the old leaves till new shoots come out from the second year. a carp streamer means the feelings of parents who wish a healthy growth and success of children has been committed as in response to Chinese legend carp that climbed the (gateway to success) torrent of registration dragon. ex.)
