GUIDING LIGHT THEATER ARCH 482| 2012 | WHELTON THIS STUDIO PROJECT WAS DRIVEN BY CONCEPTUAL MODELS DERIVED FROM A LOCAL RECLAIMING CENTER. WE THEN INTERPRETED THESE ARTIFACTS INTO ARCHITECTURE THAT REPRESENTED FILM. THE PROGRAM ENTAILED A BREWERY AND THEATER IN A NARROW LOT IN A BUSY NEIGHBORHOOD. THE FINAL DESIGN CAME FROM AN INTERPRETATION OF BENDING DOOR HINGES THAT WERE HELD IN PLACE BY NAILS. THE TENSION & PROTRUSION RESEMBLE LIGHT PENETRATING FILM IN ORDER TO PROJECT A MOVIE.
Concept Models The models focused on exploring the tension between the bendind hinges and the protrusion of the bolt. Held in place the planes ‘guide’ movement, light and sounds.

OAKS BOTTOM INTERPRATIVE CENTER ARCH 381| 2009 | POTESTIO SITUATED ON THE EDGE OF A WETLAND THIS STUDIO’S PROGRAM WAS TO CREATE AN INTERPRETATIVE LEARNING CENTER FOR THE OAKS BOTTOM WILDLIFE REFUGE. AS ONE WALKS ALONG THE EDGE OF THE WATER ONE EXPERIENCES SPECIFC MOMENTS FRAMED BY THE VEGETATION ALONG THE SHORE LINE THESE EXPERIENCES WHERE THEN REFLECTED INTO A STUDIO PROJECT. THE FINAL DESIGN CONSISTS OF A SERIES OF RAISED BUILDINGS EXTENDING ONTO THE WATER. ORIENTED IN VARIOUS DIRECTIONS. EACH SPACE FRAMES A SERIOUS OF VIEWS ALONG THE HORIZON
