Diagraming became vital to the organizational lay out of the design. Taking into account traffic/ transit patterns and the sites relationship to the surrounding neighborhoods. The classroom was a main point of interaction for building. Finding the right arrangement that would create a primary space for interaction as well as private spaces

RECON, URBAN HOUSING AND TRANSIT -Portland State University, Department of Architecture -Rudy Barton Studio 481 -Program: Urban Housing, Transit

The left over of the Urban Renewal Projects, this site of lands offers a unique opportunity for a future Max stop and a new urban mixed use project. It is a physical divide between two distinct urban fabrics that needs reconnecting in order to strengthen the cities relationship to the south water front district

Main residential area

A very systematic approach was taken in order to find a design layout that would help establish circulation corridors running down through the city. The Design had to take into account a new transit stop that would establish a network with the rest of the regional city transit as well as the city center

Scheme 1: Taking existing site corridors I continued them through the site creating space that would help generate a basic form. Then I redirected them to further establish a connection with present architecture, i.e. Street Car Stop, International School and Staircase to Harbor Drive. Scheme 2: The ‘Courtyard’ offered the foundation of this scheme. Centralized around the Max stop, it was divided up into two separate spaces that would allow people to enter the site. Further pushing them away, creating more space for interaction. Finally crossing them over each other allowed for three distinct spaces that connected the site to the city Scheme 1

Scheme 2

Site model

With the Max line dividing the site. I created a central circulation corridor that would run from the SW Corner to the NE. Connecting an undefined space, empty lot, to a defined space, Streetcar Stop
