All baptized Christians who receive the Eucharist in their home churches, who come in penitence seeking the Body and Blood of Christ, are welcome to receive.
The Sacrament is celebrated using wheat bread and fermented grape wine.
If you are unable to receive either for any reason, the Church has always taught that to receive the Sacrament in one kind is to receive all the benefits of the Sacrament. If you do not wish to receive the Sacrament for any reason, you may cross your arms and receive a blessing from the priest. If you are not receiving only one of the elements, simply cross your right arm over your chest.
You may stand or kneel (on the top step) to receive Communion. The consecrated Bread is received in the hand, right hand placed on top of the left. To receive the consecrated Wine, grasp only the base of the chalice and guide it to your lips. If for any reason you require the sacrament to be brought to you in your seat, please inform the sacristan on duty.
The Sacrament is not administered by intinction.
Prelude: “Hyfrydol” from Three Preludes Founded on Welsh Hymn Tunes R.V. Williams (1872-1958)
At the ringing of the bell, all stand as the procession enters the chapel.
THE INSTALLATION OF LAUREN LINN WHITNAH, PHD AS DEAN OF NASHOTAH HOUSE THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY
The Installation is conducted by the Chair of the Board of Directors, under the mandate from the authority appointing.
The new Dean, in academic regalia, led by the Secretary and the Chair of the Board, comes to the entrance to the choir, and is received by the Community & members of the Board.
The Chair of the Board censes the Dean. The Chair then demands the Notification of Election, which is read by one of the Directors.
Whereas, through the resignation of Garwood P. Anderson, PhD; Dean of Nashotah House and now the Donald J. Parsons Distinguished Professor of Biblical Interpretation, it devolved upon the Directors of the said House, under the Statutes governing that body, to elect a Dean of Nashotah House.
Be it known therefore that at a meeting of the Board of Directors held on the twentyfifth day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-four, deeply sensible of our responsibilities and under the invocation of the Holy Ghost, we did then elect Lauren Linn Whitnah, PhD, to be Dean of Nashotah House.
And we now present to you, the said Lauren Linn Whitnah, PhD, to be duly inducted and installed as Dean of this House, with all the rights, privileges and immunities belonging to her office as provided in the Statutes, she first making the promise to obey and rule herself by the said Statutes of this House.
The Chair then demands of the Dean the promise to obey and observe the Statutes of Nashotah House, to preserve its rights and privileges, and those of the Faculty, and to be a faithful pastor of the Student Body. DO YOU PROMISE TO FULFILL ALL YOUR DUTIES AND OBLIGATIONS AS DEAN OF THIS HOUSE?
Which promise the Dean makes: IN THE NAME OF GOD. AMEN. I, LAUREN LINN WHITNAH, DO SOLEMNLY PROMISE TO OBEY THE STATUES OF NASHOTAH HOUSE, TO PRESERVE ITS RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES AND THOSE OF THE FACULTY, AND TO BE A FAITHFUL PASTOR OF THE STUDENT BODY.
The Secretary then tenders her the open Book of the Gospels to kiss.
While the Dean bows profoundly, the Chair chants the following, the entire assembly making the responses:
V. O Lord, save your servant.
R. Who puts his trust in you.
V. The Lord preserve your going out and your coming in.
R. Henceforth, now and forever.
V. The Lord be with you.
R. And also with you.
V. Let us pray.
Almighty and everlasting God, have mercy upon your servant Lauren Linn Whitnah, chosen Dean of this House, and direct her according to your loving kindness in the way of eternal salvation, that by the gift of your grace she may ever desire such things as are pleasing to you, and with all her strength perform the same. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Secretary and Chair then lead the Dean to the High Altar; there the Dean, together with the whole assembly, kneels while the Litany for Ministry is sung.
After the final petition:
AAll stand. The Dean rises and ascends to the altar; after she kisses the altar, she is conducted by the Chair to the Dean’s stall. The Chair says the following: ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, I DO NOW INSTALL YOU AS DEAN OF THIS HOUSE. IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY GHOST. AMEN.
The Chair of the Faculty, in the name of the Faculty and the members of the House, shall say the following:
DEAN WHITNAH, WE HAVE HEARD YOUR PROMISE, AND IN PURSUANCE THEREWITH WE FREELY AND HEARTILY RECEIVE YOU AS OUR DEAN; AND WE PROMISE AND WILL GIVE DUE OBEDIENCE TO YOU IN ALL THINGS PERTAINING TO THE RULES OF THIS HOUSE.

At the conclusion of the lesson, the Subdeacon chants: The Word of the Lord.
The Organist improvises as incense is made. As the procession forms, all stand for the Alleluia. The Cantor chants the Alleluia, repeated by all. The Cantor and Choir chant the appointed verse,

After the Gospel, the People respond:
Confession of Sin
The Deacon then turns to the People and says: Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. All kneel and silence is kept. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
The Celebrant alone stands and says the Absolution, after which all stand for: The Peace BCP 360

Opening Dialogue and Proper Preface
Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. For with your co-eternal Son and Holy Spirit, you are one God, one Lord, in Trinity of Persons and in Unity of Being; and we celebrate the one and equal glory of you, O Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:
The Prayer of Consecration
Hhuman nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.
He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.
On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me."
After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me."
We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.
Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.
All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever.
