Did You Know? Nashville Public Library is a place for wellness and health literacy. NPL offers free activities and resources, including yoga and cooking classes, in a program called Be Well at NPL. In 2016, NPL reached more than 15,000 people, delivering 989 health and wellness workshops. Thanks to the many individuals, corporations and foundations who support the Library through the Nashville Public Library Foundation, the Library can offer Be Well programs at no cost to participants.
People from around the world choose to make a home in Nashville. They visit Nashville Public Library to get immigration forms, take free ESL classes, and use free resources to prepare for the U.S. citizenship exam. These services are part of the city’s “Pathway for New Americans” initiative. Thanks to generous individuals, corporations, and foundations that support the Nashville Public Library Foundation, the Library can offer this initiative at no cost to the community.
People of all backgrounds still struggle in a very real, local “digital divide.” Everyday tasks - banking online, emailing teachers and bosses, researching health information – remain out of reach. With access to tools and training through the Library’s Digital Inclusion initiative, digital learners can become “digital citizens.” Thanks to support from corporations, individuals, and foundations through the Nashville Public Library Foundation, the Library can offer these resources and services to individual learners and partnering organizations at no cost to the community.
30
At Nashville Public Library, we believe children will learn to read – and later read to learn – if they first begin by reading for fun. That’s what makes Bringing Books to Life, the Library’s early reading outreach program, so important. NPL’s team of educators gives Pre-K reading workshops for teachers, parents, caregivers, and families, on weekends and evenings, across Nashville, in English and Spanish. What’s more, the Library offers these workshops at no cost to students, teachers, or families, thanks to support from individuals, corporations, and foundations through the Nashville Public Library Foundation.
In 2016, nearly 7,000 people benefitted from more than 800 adult literacy classes and workshops at NPL. The Library’s Adult Education efforts cover a wide spectrum of literacy topics, all designed to meet very real, local needs. Thanks to support from individuals, corporations, and foundations through the Nashville Public Library Foundation, the Library can offer space, resources, and services to individual learners and partnering adult literacy organizations at no cost to the community.
The Nashville After Zone Alliance Nashville After Zone Allance (NAZA),
Nearly 10,000 scholars, researchers, and tourists visit the Library’s Civil Rights Room every year. Nashville Public Library preserves a collection of oral histories, photographs, periodicals, manuscripts, news accounts, and more – all collected from people who created and witnessed the dramatic moments that make up Nashville’s Civil Rights history. Thanks to donations made through the Nashville Public Library Foundation, NPL can offer civil rights and human rights education programs to people across our community.

Individuals, corporations, and foundations have embraced Limitless Libraries through the Nashville Public Library Foundation.
The Library’s Wishing Chair crew of professional performers uses puppetry to bring stories and tales to life. They inspire children, families, and people of all ages to experience literacy in a new way. Wishing Chair offers special story times and full-scale puppetry productions in the Main Library’s Children Theatre, while NPL’s traveling Puppet Truck takes shows to locations across the city. Thanks to the many individuals, corporations, and foundations that support the Nashville Public Library Foundation, Wishing Chair can reach nearly 100,000 people a year.
