May 1st Election Results

Official results of the May 1st General City Officers' Election show 505 total Nassau Bay voters cast their vote for the May election, with voter participation percentages (almost 16%) surpassing any other City Council elections in our region (EL Lago ~ 9.7%, Seabrook ~ 5.5%, Webster ~ 2.6%).

City Council held a Special City Council meeting on Wednesday, May 12th at 2:00pm to canvass the results of the May 1st General Officers’ Election. The canvass is an official certification of the May 1st election results. The canvassing authority (City Council) prepares a tabulation stating the total number of voters who cast a ballot for each candidate in the election. Nassau Bay could not legally perform this action until the City received the official results from the Harris County Elections Division.

Donald C. Matter won the Council Position 1 race with 371 votes to Don Hollowell's 134 votes. Ashley Graves (Position 3) was unopposed and received 404 votes. Sandra Mossman (Position 5) was unopposed and received 431 votes.

After canvassing, the duly elected Councilmembers can be sworn-in and officially begin their next term of office. At the May 12th canvass meeting, Councilmembers-Elect Don Matter and Ashley Graves completed the oath of office to take official duties as Council Position 1 and 3, respectfully. Dr. Mossman completed her oath shortly thereafter.

Each of these individuals will join the June 14th Regular City Council meeting as official members. There will be a more formal recognition of exiting Councilmember John Mahon at the June 14th City Council meeting. Thank you for your eight years of service, John!
