Beyond Photography is an online platform, travelling exhibition space and e-store based in Amsterdam collaborating with the world’s leading Image Makers. Our aim is to bring art closer to the public by offering free art through the organization of free-to-thepublic art events throughout the city. With our web platform and our exhibitions, we aim to give those artists, who are commonly overlooked in the art world, an opportunity to exhibit their work and offer them the opportunity to widen their visibility and their network. Our foremost aim at Beyond Photography is to offer a new art experience that is accessible to everyone. Not just for the people of Amsterdam, but with the people of Amsterdam.

By acknowledging Technology as a new form of art, Beyond Photography looks at a different set of references than is commonly presented by art and academic institutions and explores, and researches, the technological impact on Photography and what the advent of Technology means for art makers as a whole. What threats and possibilities does Technology offer? Beyond Photography looks for answers and looks to represent this new narrative in a new form of art. With a vast network of multi-media digital artists, Beyond Photography is set to shape the future of visual storytelling, whilst offering artists a platform to showcase their work and give them the opportunity to work with industry professionals. There are artists all over the world championing Technology in image based arts, Beyond Photography aims to be the community that can bring these works together.

We define Image Making (or Non-Traditional Photography) as an umbrella term for a variety of visual arts which take a non-traditional approach to photographic practice. The overarching medium incorporates Retouching, Collage, Post-Photography, CGI, Glitch, Mixed Media, Photo Sculpture, Experimental Filmmaking and so much more.

Providing Amsterdam (and the world) with access to today’s pioneering artists in the field of Image Making through an online media platform and never before seen exhibitions, which are free to the public, whilst offering a platform for those artists who are commonly unseen in the art world. It is our mission to create a more two-directionial art experience (between artwork and the viewer) and create a space, in which every voice feels heard and represented.
In our view, Image Making is the single art medium that can appropriately react to the world we live in today. A medivum that has welcomed Technology and the digital into the world of art and sees Technology as an artform in itself. Image Making allows us to explore what has changed about our society, specifically the Internet. Our platform examines the role which art plays in our society as well as how digital technology is changing the art world in and of itself. Beyond Photography explores what lies in the potential of Image Making and its depiction of the society we are living in.

OUR COMMUNITY. Beyond Photography has always believed in bringing art to the public. We strive to establish an artscape, which mirrors the diverse society of the city and in which as many individuals as possible will feel represented. Not only is Beyond Photography a strong community of, and for, artists, it is also a community for art lovers at all levels in their education. At Beyond Photography, we view and experience art as an act of education, which is why we always strive to open up and stimulate dialogue in our community. We believe art’s importance is based on its quality and impact on the world, not the status of the artist or the price tag on their piece. Our community is nonhierarchical and open to anyone. This way, we strive to democratize the world of art.
THE MAP We’re extremely proud and honoured to have worked with so many people across the globe and we’re working hard to expand to as many corners of the world as possible. We aim to have a dialogue between a plethora of identities, in which not one identity holds a majority. We are not quite there yet but we are ambitious to reach our goal in the coming years.
DIVERSITY & INCLUSIVITY. We acknowledge that there is much ground to win in representation within art. Diversity and inclusivity are at the heart of our organisation’s aims by uniting the work of LGBTQ+, black and POC artists, whose voices need to be heard and whose art needs visibility in order for art to become more intersectional and inclusive for both artists and lovers of art alike. In order to grow and reach our diversity and inclusivity goals, we believe it is key that the Beyond Photography team represents the cultural diversity of the city. It is our mission to establish Beyond Photography as an organisation for which discourse does not have to outwardly ‘attract’ diversity, but one that oozes it from the inside out. In order to do so, we are always looking to link with organisations that can help us grow and reach these aims.
BP PRODUCTION ART DIRECTION & CREATION Founded by two Image Makers, Beyond Photography is also a creative production house, creating art-driven visual work. We offer creative art direction and production to organisations who are keen to discover the world of technological art and Image Making. We offer full-service event and creative production and have a far-stretching portofolio including exhibitions, book publishing, editorials, digital campaigns, music & conceptual videos, and many more.
