Intro Moe’s Cafe is the cafeteria at the School of Visual Arts. There are two small locations, one in the East Side building and the other in the basement of the West Side building. The look and feel of the cafe’s brand is outdated and it doesn’t reflect the school’s passion for design and aesthetics. The ask To reinvent the visual identity of Moe’s Cafe.

Design Moeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Cafe is not only a place to eat at SVA, but it is also a place of reunion. Students meet with faculty for quick reviews and friends meet between classes. The concept of the logo was to show coffee as the center of these reunions, as well as to graphically represent the two locations of the cafeteria.

Intro Self discovery for some people comes with classes, or with books, but for some it comes with play. Big Mystic is a handmade jewelry business that started as Teresaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s (the client) hobby, and after putting a few rings on Etsy.com, it became an actual business, with orders to fulfill and pieces to make. The ask To develop a brand that resonated with the market interested in handmade jewelry and to create a visual identity that reflected the ownerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s personality, inspiration and thoughts.

Design The inspiration for the design was the owner herself and the process she has been through while creating jewelry. Her journey has been about self-knowledge and connecting with her intuition, and this is reflected in the design with the details of the logotype. The logotype is custom lettering that shows how each letter has a different meaning and purpose in the journey. The decorations represent the little pieces within us that we discover from time to time.

Intro Served at local Farmers’ Markets, Ceviche House is one of San Diego’s premier ceviche aficionados. This young business was founded in 2014 with the idea of bringing Mexican seafood recipes to Southern California in a new way. Ceviche House wanted to stand out from the rest of the vendors and was in need of brand identity. The ask To create a brand from scratch. From a logo to banners for the stand, without leaving out the brand’s voice and personality.

Design The concept for package design, labels and logo was based on how one eats ceviche â&#x20AC;&#x201C; on a tostada. A round, crunchy, giant tortilla chip. The circle is an element throughout the brand, and it is accompanied of sassy copywriting set in the Proxima Nova family. The color palette was inspired by Mexican beaches and emblematic cities of the coast.

Intro Instagram is a mobile app where users come together to share moments through photography. The app is focused on creating beautiful images with just a camera phone and predetermined filters. Design The one page navigation allows the user to quickly access one page to the next without leaving the main page. The design focuses on the features of the app, using the icons from the mobile interface, to create a connection to the app. The design encompasses a carousel to separate information, as well a looping video in the background to engage the user. The desktop website allows prospective users to create an account and to immediately start following people based on their location. It also allows existing users to sign in into their account and scroll through their feed.

The desktop website was designed at 1920px on a 12 column grid.

The app Pindrop connects people with Bluetooth v4.0 technology, allowing users to be find friends in a 200 feet range. It allows the user to create specific meeting spots, with a timestamp and an expiration. The meeting point can be in a subway car, a secret hiking trail or that gelato shop in Rome. Pindrop can also be used for companies as a marketing strategy to giveaway products and share the secret location through the app.

Intro Jim Sherraden is the owner of Hatch Show Print in Nashville, Tennessee. Hatch is one of the oldest letterpress print shops in the United States. Jim is saving the archive of wood type by scanning and vectorizing oversized letter-forms. He shared them with students and faculty to keep the art alive in a new, digital way. The ask To create five posters only using the vectorized wood type provided.

Design The copywriting directed the design into posters that could be read everyday and still make sense. The old letter-forms and distressed shapes are juxtaposed and shown in a modern â&#x20AC;&#x201C;and some would say minimalâ&#x20AC;&#x201C; way. The letters were chosen from over 1,200 vectorized pieces and set one by one.

Intro Let’s face it, we all judge a book by its cover. And this may not be the ideal situation for an award writer like Gabriel García Márquez. This Latin American author is known for his magic realism novels and stories. His writing is precise, delicate, and delightfully detailed. Márquez places the reader in hot, humid locations south of the Equator and tells surreal, but yet familiar stories of love, loss and lust. His books have been translated to more than thirty languages but the covers seem to always look similar. The cover tend to portray the old scenery and the romantic feeling of Colombia, the author´s hometown. The ask To redesign a set of book covers by using typography as the main element and to create a cohesive, consistent look for the set.
