Client Profile Leanne Armand • Dr Leanne Armand was born in February 1968 in Adelaide, South Australia. • She is a marine scientist and an expert focuses on the distribution of diatoms, a single-­‐cell microscopic phytoplankton. • Armand spent a lot of time as a child at the nearby beaches, collect-­‐ ing seashells and using them to set up 'museums' at home along with other bits and pieces. • She studied biology at Flinders University for her undergraduate degree. Awards • the Bigelow Laboratory’s Rose-Provasoli Award •Marie Curie Fellowship (2005-2007) •the Australian Academy of Science’s Dorothy Hill Award in 2007

• Specializing in micropalaeontology, the study of tiny fossils, for her PhD studies, Armand examined the fossilised remains of diatoms found in deep sea sediment cores. • Armand’s PhD project was a joint collaboration between the Aus-­‐ tralian National University and the University of Bordeaux in France. She completed her PhD in France. • She spent three years studying at the Institut Méditerranéen d’ Océa-­‐ nographie, Université Aix-­‐Marseille in collaboration with Prof. Ber-­‐ nard Quéguiner.

Concept

• The goal is to create a furniture with functional and aestethic value, corresponding with needs of the client • The client collect a lot of sea creature such as corals, shells and others so it is necessary to have showcase for them. • Armand is a marine scientist and she has a lot of books related to her professional field. For this reason she needs from storage/library. • The form (tubes) of furniture is inspired by a kind of coral. • Some of tubes (the lower ones) are close with caps from lens, which gave the oppurtunity to see exhibited object closer similar to that with microscope. • The material is transparent blue acrylic inspired by tran-­‐ sparent sea creatures as in their functioning organism is visible, the idea is to do not hide the mechanism of furniture like usual but opposite to show it. • The color is blue to achieve the effect of water. • The furniture is with rotate machanism to be easier to use it. • The furniture is projected to be placed in the middle of space.
