THE MODEL REVISIONS TO THE EXTERIOR MYCELIUM STUD WALL Revision to: The mycelium panel + stud wall Type: Exterior Framework After having completed the model, I saw that there were a lot of extra nogging and screws that were needed in order to hold up the 8' x 16" x 2" partial mycelium panel. With this being a temporary structure, I was inspired to lessen the number of materials used after having completed the project. For this revision, I made a change to the panel so that it would be smaller, lighter, and allow more light and air to pass through. By using studies that have niches that hold the panels in place, can help create framing for the 16" x 16" x 1" panels, and it would also allow for a variation in designs of the panels.
THE MEMBRANE REVISION TO THE CANVAS TENSED MEMBRANE I realized that the tree in the center did not have to be necessary as structural support. In fact, I had the opportunity to make my own supporting structure using flexible wood strips, canvas, and jute rope. I was inspired by the inside waterfall at the Singapore airport and tried to make a similar structure out of wood that would in some ways also resemble the base and gills of a mushroom. I also included a system that uses a small gutter to transport water through one of the structural supports to the outside and onto the absorbent ground. The slight angle would also help guide the water to use this system.
This is the detail that shows the connection between the canvas and the juste rope which is used on the exterior circular rame as well as the interior circle.
