THE REQUIRED FIRE RESISTANCE RATING OF EXTEIROR WALLS WITH A FIRE SEPARATION DISTANCE OF GREATER THAN 10 FEET (3048 MM) SHALL BE RATED FOR EXPOSURE TO FIRE FROM THE INSIDE. WALL PARTITIONS AND FLOOR-CEILING ASSEMBLIES SEPARATING DWELLING UNITS AND SLEEPING UNITS FROM EACH OTHER OR FROM PUBLIC SERVICE AREAS SHALL HAVE A SOUND TRANSMISSION CLASS OF NOT LESS THAN 50 WHERE TESTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM E90 OR HAVE A NORMALIZED NOISE ISOLATION CLASS (NNIC) RATING OF NOT LESS THAN 45 IF FIELD TESTED, IN ACCORDANCE WITH AST E336 FOR AIRBORNE NOISE. ALTERNATIVELY, THE SOUND TRANSMISSION CLASS OF WALLS, PARTITIONS, AND FLOOR-CEILING ASSEMBLIES SHALL BE ESTABLISHED BY ENGINEERING ANALYSIS BASED ON A COMPARISON OF WALLS, PARTITIONS, AND FLOOR CEILING ASSEMBLIES HAVING SOUND TRANSMISSION CLASS RATINGS AS DETERMINED BY THE TEST PROCEDURES SET FORTH IN AST E90. PENETRATIONS OR OPENINGS IN CONSTURCTION ASSEMBLIES OR PIPING; ELECTRICAL DEVICES; RECESSED CABINETS; BATHTUBS; SOFFITS; OR HEATING, VENTILATING OR EXHAUST DUCTS SHALL BE SEALED, LINED, INSULATED OR OTHERWISE TREATED TO MAINTAIN THE REQUIRED RATINGS. THIS REQUIREMENT SHALL NOT APPLY TO ENTRANCE DOORS; HOWEVER, SUCH DOORS SHALL BE TIGHT FITTING TO THE FRAME AND SILL.
1206.3 STRUCTURE-BORNE SOUND FLOOR-CEILING ASSEMBLIES BETWEEN DWELLINGS UNITS AND SLEEPINIG UNITS OR BETWEEN DEWLLING UNIT OR SLEEPING UNIT AND A PUBLIC OR SERVICE AREA WITHIN THE STURCTURE SHALL HAVE AN IMPACT INSULATION CLASS RATING OF NOT LESS THAN 50 WHERE TESTED IN ACCORDANCEWITH ASTM E492, OR HAVE A NORMALIZED IMPACT SOUND RATING (NISR) OF NOT LESS THAN 45 IF FIELD TESTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH A ST E1007. ALTERNATIVELY, THE IMPACT INSULATION CLASS OF FLOOR-CEILING ASSEMBLIES SHALL BE ESTABLISHED BY ENGINEERING ANALYSIS BASED ON A COMPARISON OF FLOOR-CEILING ASSEMBLIES HAVING IMPACT INSULATION CLASS RATINGS AS DETERMINED BY THE TEST PROCEDURES IN AST E492. 1206.4 ALLOWABLE INTERIOR NOISE LEVELS INTERIOR NOISE LEVEL ATTRIBUTABLE TO EXTEIROR SOURCES SHALL NOT EXCEED 45 DB IN ANY HABITABLE ROOM. THE NOISE METIC SHALL BE EITHER THE DAY-NIGHT AVERAGE SOUND LEVEL (LDN) OR THE COMMUNITY NOISE EQUIAVLENT LEVEL (CNEL), CONSISTENT WITH THE NOISE ELEMENT OF THE LOCAL GENERAL PLAN.
1207.9.1 WALL AND FLOOR ASSEMBLIES WALL AND FLOOR-CEILING ASSEMBLIES SEPARATING DWELLING UNITS OR GUEST ROOMS FROM EACH OTHER AND FROM PUBLIC OR SERVICE AREAS AS INTERIOR CORRIDORS, GARAGES AND MECHANICAL SPACES SHALL PROVIDE AIRBORNE AND IMPACT SOUND INSULATION FOR WALLS, AND BOTH AIRBORNE AND IMPACT SOUND INSULATION FOR FLOOR-CEILING ASSEMBLIES.

SECTION 1113 EXISTING GROUP R-1 AND GROUP R-2 OCCUPANCIES (SFM)
1113.1 SCOPE THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION ARE INTENDED TO MAINTAIN OR INCREASE THE CURRENT DEGRSS OF PUBLIC SAFETY, HEALTH, AND GENERAL WELFARE IN EXISTING BUILDINGS CLASSIFIED AS GROUP R OCCUPANCIES.
1113.1.1 APPLICATION
IN ACCORDANCE WITH HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE SECTION 13143.2 THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION 1113.2 THROUGH 1113. 12 SHALL ONLY APPLY TO MULTIPLE STORE S TRUCTURES EXISTING ON JANUARY 1, 1975, LET FOR HUMAN HABITATION, INCLUDING, AND LIMITED TO APARTMENT HOUSES, HOTELS, AND MOTELS WHEREIN ROOMS USED FOR SLEEPING ARE LET ABOVE THE GROUND FLOOR.
1113.2 NUMBER OF EXITS
EVERY APARTMENT AND EVERY OTHER SLEEPING ROOM SHALL HAVE ACCESS TO NOT LESS THAN TWO EXITS WHEN THE OCCUPANT LOAD IS 10 OR MORE (EXITS NEED NOT BE DIRECTY FROM THE APARTMENT OR SLEEPING ROOM). A FIRE ESCAPE AS SPECIFIED HEREIN MAY BE USED AS ONE REQUIRED EXIT. SUBJECT TO APPORVAL OF THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION, A LADDER DEVICE AS SPECIFIED HEREIN MAY BE USED IN LIEU OF A FIRE ESCAE WHEN THE CONSTRUCTIONI FEATURE OR THE LOCATION OF THE BUILDING ON THE PROPERTY CAUSE THE INSTALLATION OF A FIRE ESCAPE TO BE IMPRACTICAL
1113.3 STAIR CONSTRUCTION
ALL STAIRS SHAL HAVE A MINIMUM RUN OF 9 INCHES (229 MM) AND A MAXIMUM RIZE OF 8 INCHES (203 MM) AND A MINIMUM WIDTH EXCLUSIVE OF HANDRAILS OF 30 INCHES (762 MM). EVERY STAIRWAY SHALL HAVE AT LEAST ONE HANDRAIL. A LANDING HAVING A MINIMUM HORIZONTAL DIMENSION OF 30 INCHES (762 MM) SHALL BE PROVIDED AT EACH POINT OF ACCESS TO THE STAIR WAY.

THIS SECTION SHALL APPLY TO COMMON INTERIOR WALLS, PARTITIONS, AND FLOOR/CEILING ASSEMBLIES BETWEEN ADJACENT DWELLING UNITS, AND SLEEPING UNITS OR BETWEEN DEWLLING UNITS AND SLEEPING UNITS AND ADJACENT PUBLIC AREAS. SOUND TRANSMISSION
