AUDIENCE PROFILINGÂ


LANA DEL REY-SUMMERTIME SADNESS ď‚Ą Lana Del Rey is a well known American singer/songwriter who is

compared to artists like Lady Gaga, Melanie Martinez and Lorde. Some of her most well known hits are Summertime Sadness, Born to Die and Blue Jeans. Her Born to Die album was well received by mainstream culture and sold 1,001,000 albums. Even though this album was well received Lana del Rey's target audience is a mainly niche audience.Â


LANA DEL REY- TARGET AUDIENCE  Lana Del Rey's primary target audience is a niche audience. Those who don’t

necessarily follow the music charts and listen to current popular songs. Due to her genre mostly being indie pop, her fans follow with tis and primarily listen to indie music such as the Kooks and Melanie Martinez. The demographics of Lana Del Rey's music is generally 18-24 year old's who are also female. This is due to some her work being slightly explicit and not suitable for younger children. This is similar to her concerts as well due to the fact that she plays the same songs which feature explicit content. Her audience is stereotypically based in America due to that being where she is perceived as being the most mainstream.

FAN PAGES The fan pages contain no advertisement as they make no money due to them being on Facebook and google consumed with images of Lana del Rey and promoting her and her brand of music. The colour in both of the fan pages are very monotone and not very wild. This could be to reflect her personality and style of music. One of the fan pages uses monochrome to create a sense of class and wealth. This could be to try and persuade the target audience to click on it but it could also be their view on Lana Del Rey's type of music and the audience that she should have. Although one of the pages is on Facebook and doesn’t show much mise en scene. The picture that is displayed is very similar to the other webpage apart from not being monochrome . The difference between the two pages is the Facebook page focuses on picture s of the artist and not so much updating about her.

OFFICIAL WEBSITE  The official website tells us that the target audience is perhaps 18-24 due to the

layout of it and the minimalistic colour pallet as well as the design of the webpage. In the top left corner hyperlinks to the different parts of the websites can be found such as the Gallery and the merch store. By having a link to the merch store, this is a way of marketing the artist and persuading her fans to buy her merch which in turn promotes her and her music. This allows for her audience to grow and expand her target audience. The official website also has a video playing in the background of Lana Del Rey wondering around in a house. The image that is displayed before the video plays uses the rule of thirds by having the darkest colour in the center frame.


BACKGROUND OF TARGET AUDIENCE

 Due to Lana Del Rey's target audience being

predominantly aged 18-24 as well as being female. The genre of music that they listen to is very similar to Lana's genre which is indie. Bands that they would listen to are The Kooks, Bastille and Arctic Monkeys because they are of similar genres which therefore allows for their audiences to cross over. This screenshot supports the type of audience that Lana Del Rey has collected over time through marketing and social media.


BACKGROUND OF TARGET AUDIENCE

 In Picture 2 it displays a stereotype of what a typical

Lana Del Rey fan enjoys such as The Inbetweeners film and Hobbies such as Going to museums and Galleries. This shows that her Target audience are of an upper class who have received good education and are intelligent. Their main interest is music which is why they listen to Lana Del Rey's music and artists that are similar to her. This shows that the audience all have similar interests as well as hobbies which make them similar and more likely to listen to Lana Del Rey's music.


ACTUAL AUDIENCE VS TARGET AUDIENCE  Producers of music videos plan for a specific audience which is the target audience. This is the

audience that they would expect to watch the music video and be interested in the musician. This is something that although they would like to see. The actual audience tends to be a little different and in music cases a few years younger then they expect. So for Lana Del Rey's music, her expected audience is 18-24 year old's but her actual audience is most likely 15-24 due to high schoolers being introduced to different musicians through their peers, social media and television programmes.  Although the target audience is 18-24 year olds and female as well as being educated. The actual

audience is most likely 14-24 due to older people influencing the younger and younger people wanting to be like the older people. This could be because they want to appear older and fit in with older people but it could also be because they don't want to be perceived as young.


OUR TARGET AUDIENCE

 Our Target audience is 17-24 and predominantly female. The audience would be predominantly female due to the

lead singer being female as well as the majority of our characters featured being female.  Although our target audience is 17-24, our video is mainly aimed at teenagers aged 17-19. This is because the

scenes that are shown in our video are relatable to teenagers due to this being something that they probably are a part of and if not then they may part take in going to parties when they are slightly older or at university. Although our video doesn’t apply to all teenagers, the ones that don’t go to parties or aren't invited would probably watch to see what a general party is like.


PSYCHOGRAPHICS •

The Psychographics of our music video would be the Aspirers due to the people watching our video wanting to gain status but also wanting to appear materialistic and having a good sense of style. • As well as our music video being aimed at aspirers it is also aimed at the mainstreamers due to most people being able to relate to the events that happen in our music video such as partying and drinking. • Our video would also be aimed at the working /middle class due to the nature of the


MUSICIANS THEY WOULD LIKE


 Our Audience would probably like these musicians because they are of the same genre but they would also

introduce them to wider genres which would expand their fan platforms as well as our own. The majority of the musicians that they would like would be bands with a few solo artists because the majority of indie artists are part of bands which helps to create indie music because none of it is synthesized, it is mostly played buy the band members. Most of the examples on slide 12 are indie bands who also cross over into other genres such as indie rock and pop. Although some of them have become mainstream such as Twenty One Pilots, Their audience doesn’t change but it opens them to be played on mainstream radios in stead of just YouTube and niche radio stations.
