How much water we waste in the world

According to the World Resource Institute, inside the 2.3 billion tons of food wasted every year worldwide is 45 trillion gallons of water. This represents a staggering 24 percent of all water used for agriculture. Here are some facts about water waste: Running the tap while brushing your teeth can waste 4 gallons of water.Older toilets can use 3 gallons of clean water with every flush, while new toilets use as little as 1 gallon. About 95 percent of water that enters your home goes down the drain.A garden hose or sprinkler can use almost as much water in an hour as an average family of four uses in the day.

Breno, JoĂŁo S., Leo e Pedro G. - 4B

How much plastic we waste in the world

More than 10 million people waste 8 million tonnes of plastic a year without recycling them. People also pollute the seas and lakes throwing them there. It is much more difficult to clean plastic from the oceans and lakes.

Pedro P., Rafael M. e Francisco W. - 4B

How much we recycle at home

1994 was the year that had the lowest number of recycling and 2016 was the best. Japan is the country that has the most recycling in the world, recycling 69,2 percent of the waste. The wood is the material that is the most recycled, companies recycle 18percent. The city of SĂŁo Paulo produces more than 12,000 tons of garbage a day, with this garbage in a week you can fill a stadium for 80,000 people. Brazil is the 4th largest producer of plastic waste in the world.

Lucas C., Luiz P. e Filipe M. - 4A

How much we recycle in the world In Canada people recycle 27% of the trash. In the United States people recycle 34% of the trash. In Brazil people just recycle 1% of plastic trash. Metal In 2016, 97.7% of the cans produced were recycled - the equivalent of about 280 thousand tons of reused aluminum. Brazil is the country that recycles the most cans in the world. Metal recycling, however, goes far beyond aluminum cans.

Plastic The world produces about 300 million tons of plastic waste each year. So far, only 9% of the plastic waste generated has been recycled and only 14% is collected for recycling.

Glass Worldwide, we produce around 130 million tonnes of glass annually. We recycle around 21% of the glass that we produce, but glass is infinitely recyclable and currently only 47% is reused.

There are many types of transportation that don't affect the environment, we can walk, we can ride a bike, we can go skating, we can go rollerblading, we can ride a scooter and much more. These kinds of transportation help us to avoid pollution and if you do your part we can save the world together!

How to compost

There are two types of composting: Cold and hot. Cold composting is as simple as collecting yard waste or taking out the organic materials in your trash (such as fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds and filters, and eggshells) and then corralling them in a pile or bin. For hot composting you need four ingredients: nitrogen, carbon, air, and water. Together, these items feed microorganisms, which speed up the process of decay. What many people don't know is that you can compost without worms. That's right! What happens is that without worms it will only take a little longer. The greatest benefit of composting is the reduction of waste, which can be 50 percent to 90 percent. Fewer plastic bags, less waste to throw and it is best to help the planet in reducing the disposal of microplastics.
