COLETIVO COWORKING ACADEMIC BACHELOR ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN PLANNING RECIFE, 2016

Coletivo Coworking is a mutable construction. The starting point of its development was to observe three fenomena that occur in the city with regularity. Firstly, the speed in which commercial buildings open and close its doors, secondly, the number of renovations that such buildings go through in order to accomodate new services, and in third place, the frequenty in which buildings are demolished only to be replaced by new ones and the amount of materials consumed in these processes.

The project represents an alternative to this reality since it is made from modular dry-fit elements that makes spacial flexibility possible, as well as the re-use and transportation of the elements once they are disassembled, resulting in material saving and low waste. It was sought to stablish a relation between the building and its surroundings, specially with a square located in front of the lot and, at the same time, to open up its use to the community. The creation of an open central space and a public area in front of the street were decisions taken in order to promote this connection. Maritime containers were distributed alongside the central space in two floors. On the first floor were located the rooms with restricted access while on the gound floors remained the rooms with free access to the community.

As a consequence of decisions made and strategies taken during the design process, solutions like the use of maritime containers, expansive metallic panels, adaptable frames, demountable floors and ceiling, and flexible water and electric installations, would allow the building to be expanded or reduced without generating too much construction waste. The undamaged dismantled elements taken from the system, could be preserved and re-used.

WATERFRONT INTERVENTION ACADEMIC MASTER PROGRAM INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE LIÉGE, 2018

The challenge was to design an intervention inside the area of the old La Boverie Concession in Liège. I selected a spot close to the river after observing its potential, which unfortunately, was not fully being taken advantage of. I had observed that the people of Liège liked to stay in contact with the water and proposed the aconstruction of a transtitional leizure area between the levels of sidewalk and river, in a strategic location in front of the Aquatic Museum. The intervention consisted of the following elements: a wooden deck with pools, comtemplation area, kayak rental spot and cruise boat stop at the river level, and a ticket office withbathrooms at street level. It aims to transform the area in a place of meeting and socialization to the community

SUMMER PAVILION ACADEMIC MASTER PROGRAM INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE MAASTRICHT, 2019

The city of Maastricht is a place of bustling public activities: presentations, markets, special events, tourism, among others. For this project, I decided to design a pavilion that could host cultural events in the public space, and that would instigate the exchange of experience, arts and culture. The square chosen for the placement of the pavilion is part of the recently built Groene Loper. The renovation of the area is not fully finished, but the intervention could also work as a catalyst of change in the area. The square and its surroundings have a very pleasant atmosphere, a good connection to other part of the city (north and south), it is close to the train station and at walking distance to the city center. The temporary building could bring people to visit the place and benefit the area for a longer time than its presence. A Sparkle for future change.

The idea is to encourage different activities to take place in the public space, inside and surrounding the pavilion, during the time it will stay up. The intervention comes to show the possibilities of activities that can happen at the newlocation and attract people to use the space. Because the building is temporary, decisions were made in during the design process not to leave a bad footprint behind. Most of the pavilion should be built using discarded wood, collected from recycling parks in Maastricht and surroundings. In addition, the construction process was thought out to allow assembly/disassembly, in order not to damage the structure and the location. The pavilion has a circular shape, it is open to all sides equally and can be accessed from all directions. It has two levels and a stage in the center, with a movable platform that can be raised if necessary or desired for days of rain or intense sun. The roof enables a shaded area inside the pavilion but also a partially shaded space towards the center and the outside. Over the roof, flags can be hung if desired to inform about the events ocurring. It is desired that a diverse range of activities take place within the pavilion and its immediate surroundings: music and dance performances, market, sport classes, exhibition, workshpos, community meals, among others.

JEWELRY SHOP INTERNSHIP RECIFE, 2015

This project was developed during my internship at Nejaim Azevedo Arquitetos [@ nejaimazevedo], an architecture and interior design office in Recife, Brazil. The interior designs at Nejaim Azevedo were bold and often destined to a high-class clientele. There, I worked on many interior design projects, from houses to retail and hospitality. Considering demonstrable experience on the last two areas is required for this position at Concrete I chose this project as representative, seeing that it is an elegant jewelry shop where the clients should feel , above all, welcome. A less aggressive approach to comsuption was prefered, with the products displayed on the side and, in the foreground, a bureau were clients and seller could enjoy a conversation. For the realization of this project, I worked alongside one of the architects during the entire process, from conceptual design, to detailing, presentations and execution. I was the person responsible to produce technical drawings and to make sure that the project was being executed conformingly

MASTER BEDROOM PRIVATE PRACTICE RECIFE, 2016

The project was developed for a mid-aged couple that wanted to upgrade the decor of their bedroom. The aim was to create a cozy and elegant dĂŠcor. The result was achieved only through changes in furniture, fabric and surface finishings, without the need of any construction. The clients also requested that previously owned pieces, like the wooden console and the mini fidge were incorporated into the new space. The balanced combination of objects in natural and rustic materials with classical and refined elements, resulted in a relaxing and inviting atmosphere.

SMALL APARTMENT PRIVATE PRACTICE RECIFE, 2016

The main challenge of this project was to take advantage of the small space available in order to accommodate comfortably a recently married couple. The ambience of the apartment should resemble the youthful pair. Wallpaper and ceramic tiles of light textures were chosen to cover the walls. Geometric shapes were added to the soft furnishing. See-through and simple-line furniture pieces were chosen not to overcrowd the space. During the process, some plans were developed to guide the installation of electrical connections and lighting. Drawings were also made to support the production of some furniture.

LIVING AMONG ART PRIVATE PRACTICE RECIFE, 2017

The owner of this living room is an art collector and, although the art pieces are of great importance to him, not much though was put into their display. The client contacted me to refurbish the living room, integrating it to its adjacent balcony, previously separated by a glass door. In addition, he wanted to place a tv in the room. The changes should be made while re-using or upcycling the existing furniture whenever possible. For this project, natural materials and neutral colors were chosen as the base of the composition, present on furniture, floor and walls, allowing the colorful art collection to stand out in the space. New additions to the room were a personalized designed-to-fit tv module and a rounded dining table.

08

FRIENDS AND BOOKS PRIVATE PRACTICE RECIFE, 2017

The owners of this apartment enjoy cooking while having friends over and requested a design that potentialized these activities. For this purpose, an open space of 30 m² was created after the demolition of a wall that separated kitchen and living room. In its place, a high counter with chairs was installed to physically separate kitchen and living room while still maintaining the visual connection and allowing proximity and interaction between the cook and its guests. A one-of-a-kind furniture piece was designed to incorporate tv, dÊcor, wine fridge and vertical garden.

In the dining area, chairs on one side of the table and a bench on the other, in roder to allow more flexible sitting. The chosen materials aim to convey an elegant but clean atmosphere to the space. In addition to the main social space in the house, another room went through changes, This time, a more secluded room, converted into a reading area, with confortable armchair, shelves and a mini bar.

VOLARE (BRAND CONSULTANCY OFFICE) PRIVATE PRACTICE RECIFE, 2018

The challenge of this project was to design an office that had a welcoming and friendly aspect and, at the same time, moved away from clichés. The office had to incorporate work stations, a meeting room and a waiting room in a small space of 25 m². Due to its small size, it was suggested that all spaces were integrated, without barriers that delimited access, such as walls, partitions or screens. The idea was to make the office resemble a home, making the clients feel comfortable and open. To translate this concept to the space, the interior welcomed bold colors but, warm materials. Also, the chosen furniture had a home appeal instead of office-like aspect. With this in mind, the waiting room, became a ‘living room’, with sofa, pillows, side table and carpet. The meeting room included a rounded-edge table, allowing easier flow around itself, and confortable chairs. A yellow cabinet was responsible for `separating` the two rooms without getting much attention by blending with the wall behind. As for the work stations, a single table could accomodate three to four sittings. Above the table, a cabinet for storing important documents.

APERITIVO BAR PRIVATE PRACTICE MAASTRICHT, 2020

With the plan to open an aperitivo bar along the lines of such restaurants common in his home country, Italy, the client presented me with the interesting challenge of transforming a tipical Dutch house into his new business. The idea of an aperitivo bar can be translated as a cocktail bar where, by ordering drinks, the clients also gets small servings of simple and delicious aperitivos to go with it. As the drinks are the protagonists on this kind of business, I thought it was a good ideas to make the bar counter an important part of the design. This way, the bar is located alongside the whole right part of the restaurant, leaving the left side free for alll the tables and sittings. The bar also hugs the pre-existing stairs, and is divided in two stations, for drinks making and food serving. It is important to mention that the aperitivo servings resemble the tapas atyle and does not need immediate cooking.

In addition, the diner area was divided into three zones, for different group profiles and sizes. At the front, a ‘lounge’ with sofas and armchairs invite the big groups to get confortable or even stand and mingle. The middle area is dedicated to groups from 4 to 6 people and, at the back a sofa allows more flexible sitting, accomodating groups from 2 to 8 guests. The interior design concept was a mix between the classical, contemporary and industrial styles, with a youthful but not cliché atmosphere and a dash of pretentiousness. The combination of material like oak wood and marble with colors like green and orange, and graphic tiles aims to translate into a cool but sophisticated result.
