‘Hikayati’

Boutique Hotel Site Location: Spears Street. Hamra – Lebanon

The building is located in Hamra, one of the most crowded cities in Lebanon. It is surrounded by a public garden, the national library and two of the most renowned universities in Lebanon. Thus, my main target is students, fresh graduates and young globe trotters. Based on my personal experience living in dorms, I realized that the lack of common spaces and public areas affected negatively the students. Mainly emotionally, since most of us lived far away from our families which lead to feeling lonely and home sick. Therefore, my main objective is to provide a sense of community and belonging through communal and open spaces. As well, a central void was created in order to facilitate the circulation and to illuminate the corridors and the bar area with natural light.

The Silent Opera Art Gallery Site Location: LAU, Beirut – Lebanon

Wondering eyes and intriguing art is the basis of this project. For many years now, part of the pleasures of attending an opera are not just watching the theatrics on stage but also discreetly eyeing the spectators. My design dictates a similar perspective. People attending the gallery are part of the exhibition itself. Whether you’re inside the gallery, or admiring from the outside you will be seen from all around the space, hence the name of my design, “The Silent Opera”.

Photographic Exploration of the Model

Photographic Exploration of the Model

Intersection Circulation is intersected by massive concrete stairs and ramps, allowing views from different angles, and adding depth and variety to the exhibition space.

Distribution The space is divided in two; the exhibition space, which is distributed on three levels. And the back office, which consist of the curator’s office, the artifacts storage area and the toilets.

Shadows The space is defined by the existing columns and the character of its natural light. The large opening with its metal frame structure creates a play of shadows.

Lightness The translucent glass railing, in contrast to the concrete surfaces adds lightness to the space. The subtlety of the space is also emphasized through the prolonged and narrow mezzanines.

Colosseum Restaurant Site Location: Byblos – Lebanon

The project is inspired by the Roman Amphitheater located in Byblos, built in 218 A.D. The Amphitheatre is an open-air venue used for entertainment and performances. The term derives from the ancient Greek which means “place of viewing from all around”. The main concept is giving a veritable feeling of self-transportation by allowing the guest to envision and live the past through the historical setting surrounding the restaurant. While at the same time enjoying the present through the numerous seating areas on different levels, the depressed architecture, and the live entertainment provided by the open kitchen.

The stone building is an existing structre, however it lacked the space for an industrial kitchen and toilets. Therefore, we were given an extra space to work with, yet we had limitation on how much we could increase the size of the kitchen.

Time Travel Polaroid Camera Found in Basta, Beirut – Lebanon

My classmates and I were sent to Basta to find any old and used object that had a function. I was instantly attracted to the Automatic Land Polaroid 355. Polaroids in general are perfunctory, in other words they develop and produce a positive print within seconds. Moreover, the polaroid print actualizes a moment and captures memories that the brain can’t always stock. With photography, humans get great power over time and disappearance. My concept is the creation of a portable darkroom, which allows the processing of the light-sensitive photographic materials such as the photographic paper. The Ecstatic apparatus is a syntactical processing and revelation encasing a state of Qua : Casual and perfunctory. Looking backwards at time, while instants confront disappearance. The precision drafting is the construct or the graphic trace of light. More specifically, it is translating the light diagrams of a photograph to accurate recordings in Euclidean geometry.

My Work was Featured in LAU’s “Foundation Works” Magazine

Metamorphosis Juvenile Correctional Center Site Location: Ain Hamade, Arbanieh – Lebanon

For this project, I had to find a site with an abandoned building. After picking an abandoned silk factory, I had the liberty of choosing any theme I wanted as long as it had nothing to do with the building's original function. So, I decided to turn it into a juvenile rehabilitation center. I chose this theme because I heard about the living conditions of juveniles in Roumieh, Lebanon’s prison, which worsened because of the increase in crime rate due to the Syrian war. According to the head of department, the ratio of inmates per cell highly increased. The metaphorical concept of my project is a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. Similarly, the juvenile will experience this metamorphosis of going from doing crimes to being well educated and well-behaved citizens of the world.

Diriyah Season Urban Festival Site Location: Riyadh - KSA

The project was brought to life in November 2019 at the inaugural of ABB Formula E in Diriyah, a town in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. Designlab Experience was commissioned to design the Royal Cube, Al Bujairi and Diriyah Oasis, all part of the Diriyah Season 2019. The Royal Cube, a private viewing deck was designed to host the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia , Mohammed Bin Salman and his guests. Al Bujairi is a synthesis between heritage and modernism, where avenues lined with fine dining restaurants such as La Petite Maison, Park Chinois and Takya lead to bespoke art work. The Diriyah Oasis consists of ten restaurants embedded in cubist architecture structures forming a circle around the central pavilion ‘Gharfa’ , a wire mesh architectural fortress led by the renowned artist Edoardo Trisoldi and his team. As well, entertainment zones were spread around the restaurants creating a colurful and lively ambience for the visitors.
