North Pasadena Apartment RS 3010, Instructor: Douglas Kent A quick site study of my apartment in Pasadena. Modeled and rendered in Blender; the diagram details basic site info such as geographic orientation, scale, and solar pathing. More specific site details were drawn from observation.

Archipelago

LA 1121, Instructor: Kevin Finch This project was an intro to Rhino 3D. We started with a uniform design modeled to exact specs. We then rearranged and transformed pieces of the model into our own design, informed by a short phrase. The phrase for this design was, “to meet an archipelago.”

2

Analog Drafting & Rendering LA 1581, Instructor: Kevin Finch My first year graphics class began with analog drafting and rendering techniques, converting an old plan drawing of a garden into several types of drawings. Rendered with Copic marker.

3

Digital Drafting & Rendering LA 1581, Instructor: Kevin Finch In the next module we modeled the garden in Rhino and pulled the linework to render drawings using digital methods. These were created in PS and Illustrator.

Long Beach Civic Center CPPLA 2nd Year Studio Project Document LA 2111L, Instructor: Phil Pregil For second year studio, we designed part of the Long Beach Civic Center. We were specifically responsible for the spaces between buildings and around the renovated Lincoln Park, designed by GGN Mages. My partner and I focused on integrating form and technology to create a space that teaches the history of the Tongva Natives in Long Beach through self exploration, creating a seamless pedestrian experience.

Prepared by Nathan Liu and Grace Morton 12/03/2021, with revisions by Nathan Liu 03/13/2022

Unique sculptural elements reach out to the surrounding geography to bring more context to the historical narrative and prompt pedestrian interaction. Around the periphery of the site, “Urban Trail-heads” improve the walkability of DTLB and connect to nearby points of interest.

In Cahuilla mythology, Menily is the Godess of the Moon. She is a significant figure in the Cahuilla origin story, being a favorite of the original humans, and teaching them most of what they knew about living in a society and in harmony with the earth. The Menily Garden uses native planting to highlight the beauty of the San Jacinto Mountains at night. A series of 4 interconnected loops meander through the garden, representing the visible moon phases: Crescent, Quarter, Gibbous, and Full. The Crescent Loop surrounds a Moon Garden, an area of densley planted flora with reflective values of white, blue, silver, and yellow. When walking the paths, the plantings become less dense as you move deeper into space. There are two “Stardust Groves” within the garden where users can string hammocks to stargaze while enjoying the sounds and scents of the garden.

Themes | Rhythm, Cultivation, Enlightenment The modern Latino identity is layered and complex. It is composed of indigenous roots, European colonialism, and a blending of diverse cultures. Our design seeks to reflect that identity, both perceptually through experiential representations of history and culture, and conceptually through introspective reflection on the constituent themes that are part of the modern Latino identity. The design focuses on a symbiotic relationship with nature emblematic of indigenous peoples, cultural adaptations that arose from their encounters with Africans and Europeans, and the theme of unearthing history to understand how each layer of identity contributes to the whole. We aim to introduce a current representation of the Latino identity to the National Mall, while acknowledging the history that founds that identity. Goals Represent Latino Culture on the National Mall Promote exploration and interaction Focus on Celebration of Latino Achievement

The form of the building was Inspired by these ideas that gives a ideas of the latino american story of of the indegenious past, the rise of the spanish missions, and modern identity now.

Water is held and cleaned in a Swale before channeling through the sites water features, An overflow leads from the Manatial Eterna to allow excess storm drainage into the Tidal Basin

Repetition of stilts and embedded light elements connect the spaces across a streetscaped pedestrian crossing Sculptural architectural features draw interest from the nearby National Mall and Tidal Basin Singing Jars create auditory interest throuought the site

Form - Rhythm is displayed In architecture through balance and patterns. Using the materials, style of spanish missions, Museum Mural and dedicating an open terrace with exhibit space on the interior celebrates the festive nature of the Latino American Culture.

Form - Culivation is the growing in size as the large foundation and the stilts support the upper levels, while creating a sense of discovery as it leads away towards the museum grounds.

Form - Enlightenment is achieved through the education one gains while they learn bout the Latin American history.

Sespe Creek Park 2020, Personal Project Sespe Creek Park is practice project I created for a vacant lot in my hometown, Fillmore CA. I drew a basic plan and used it to model the design in Blender The concept is a skate friendly pedestrian plaza in Downtown Fillmore. The design draws inspiration from Sespe Creek and the F&W Railway, two major features that were instrumental in the town’s founding and continue to play an important role today.

19

Landscape Installation 2014, Edna Valley Residence with Kilcoyne Landscapes I worked on this property with a small design-build practice from May to November of 2014 while living in San Luis Obispo. The landscape was barren an undeveloped when we started the project and this is the result. I worked first hand with the owner of the company and learned a lot about installation in my short time there. It was extremely rewarding to watch the transformation take place. I personally picked, cut, laid, and leveled each stone in this pathway and landing. The work was grueling but satisfying; it gave me immense respect for the people who work to bring design to reality.
