COMEDIAN SPOTLIGHT KAT

Spontaneous, funny, charming are just three words you could use to describe Kat. He’s a rare breed, a naturally funny guy who can perform without a script or a rehearsed set. He literally goes out onto the stage and has fun.

Kat is hilariously funny and is the Real Deal.

AXEL An energetic confident character who’s comedy comes with a truthful insight that only a stand up comedian can get away with. Charming, cool plus hilariously funny.

Axel da Enterainer’ is here to entertain.

SPECIAL P Known for using unique expressions and body language from the offset to captivate audiences. He has a cheeky wit and charm with the ladies and has lyrics that will leave the guys howling with laughter. He covers a wide range of material from relationships, politics to social behaviour.

“One of the sleeping giants of UK

JASON ANDORS Jason has made a name for himself with his ground breaking hilarious physical comedy. One of only a few comedians to received a standing ovation at New York’s world famous Apollo.

One of P-Diddy’s Bad Boys of Comedy.

SMOKEY SUAREZ

Smokey Suarez is one of the top “urban” as well as “mainstream” standup comedians in the USA. To the audience he is a raw, authentic, uncensored comedic beast. With his raspy, weathered voice and incisive wit, Smokey Suarez is able to blend impeccable comedic timing, clever punchlines, and bold physical comedy into one completely sensational standup routine.

Smokey is a comedic heavyweight. www.rdcj.net

EVEN A VOLCANO COULDN’T STOP THE LAST TOUR To finally welcome Cardiff into the Real Deal Comedy Jam family was amazing.

The April 2010 Real Deal Comedy Jam tour was one of the best tours we have done so far. The tour featured a new comedian from London called Littleman, veteran comics Glenda Jaxson and Richard Blackwood plus US comedian called ‘Talent’

and not forgetting Mr Real Deal Comedy Jam himself the Kat man. We brought the show to London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol and for the very first time Cardiff. To finally welcome Cardiff into the Real Deal Comedy Jam family was amazing. If

I was once told “All good things comes to those who wait” I still don’t know whether that’s ture or not ... what do YOU think?

I’m honest it’s been a long time coming. Local promotional responsibilities for Cardiff were handled by Alton Webbe and Shaz from Sugar and Spice promotions. I must commends them both on a job well done, they were excellent and a pleasure to work with. Littleman, was relatively new to the comedy game with just 18 months worth of stage experience under his belt prior to the tour. Unsurprisingly he was a little nervous on the first leg of the tour in Nottingham. But once up on the stage he delivered a comedy set that was much more advanced than his stage time would suggest. He had the crowd right where he wanted them and seemed to grow in confidence as the show went on. Definitely one to look out for, this kid has a big future in the

.......how can we forget Twist and Pulse. Since they came out on tour with us in April they have gone onto becoming household names by coming 2nd in ITV’s prestigious Britain’s Got Talent. entertainment industry. Glenda Jaxson, was as good as ever, she is increasingly building a reputation for delivering consistent performances. Her stories about every day life are relevant to everybody. She is charming, has great delivery and her timing is spot on. What I love about Glenda is she was consistently writing material whilst we were on tour. So as the tour went on situations that had occurred whilst we were on tour found there way into her set. So I got to see how her mind works. One of the funniest ladies in the UK without doubt as far as I am concerned. Richard Blackwood, is one of the real stars of the UK urban stand up comedy scene. He was eagerly awaited by everyone at all the shows on the tour, especially by the females. Richard knew he had to deliver, and he didn’t let anyone down. His jokes were hilarious. At the Birmingham show Richard did a performance that could only be described as masterful. It was almost as if he had something to prove and was determined to come out hard. It was great to see him back where he belongs on the premier urban stand up comedy circuit. I really

enjoyed getting to know Richard. US Comedian ‘Talent’ came onto the tour as a last minute replacement for Melanie Comarcho. Melanie was unable to fly to the UK due to the unprecedented volcano situation which caused all flights in and out of Europe to be grounded. New Yorker ‘Talent’ actually turned a bad situation into a blessing. He is definitely one of the best comedians to make the transition from the US to the slightly different audiences found in the UK. Ending each show with the same joke that was not only verbally shocking but was also visually shocking as well. Kat did what Kat does. Kat is quite simply one of the most naturally entertaining people in the UK. He spontaneously pulled jokes from his immediate environment throughout the tour. Regularly involving the audiences into the shows. I like to call Kat our captain on the pitch. Kat and I have a briefing session so that his aware of all of our obligations but once the show starts Kat is in full control and I’m perfectly happy for him to be. I trust him totally. Is there a better host out there? I dont think so.

If you were there to witness the Kat striptease you would of saw the ladies go crazy, with the noise they made you would of actually thought that Usher had just walked out onto the stage. I found it hilarious. Finally how can we forget Twist and Pulse. Since they came out on tour with us in April they have gone onto becoming household names by coming 2nd in ITV’s prestigious Britain’s Got Talent competition. My one regret was that they were unable to do the Birmingham show due to one half of the duo Glen having to attend his fathers wedding. But don’t worry Birmingham the boys will be back on the Real Deal Comedy Jam tour real soon. I really enjoyed working on this tour the chemistry between the production team and comics was brilliant. Sometimes I had to remind myself that I was actually at work because at times it felt more like we were on holiday. If you came to the April Real Deal Comedy Jam tour we thank you for supporting us. Without you there would be no Real Deal Comedy Jam.

Joke One

A drunk rasta man was sun bathing on the beach. When a little girl came towards him, so he covered himself with a newspaper. She asked him ‘wha yuh ave undah de newspaper”? Thinking quickly, the Rasta said, “A Bird”. The girl walked away, the Rastaman fell asleep drunk. When he woke up, he was in hospital in a lot of pain. The police asked him what happened. The Rasta said “Mi noh kno, mi was deya pon de beach, dis likkle gal axe me a question, den mi mussah doze off an next ting me deh ya” The police went to the beach and found the girl, and asked her “what did you do to the naked rastaman?” After a pause, the girl replied, “Me neva do nutten to im, nutten atall”. “Me jus a play wid him bird, an it spit pon me”. “So, me bruk im neck an cracked im two eggs an set im nest pon fiya”.

Joke Two

One day a women walks into work in a short skirt. As she’s walking to her desk she gets stopped by a co-worker, who says, “Your hair smells really nice today.” She grimaces and stomps into her manager’s office. She says, “I want to file a sexual harassment complaint!” and then

relates what happened. The manager says, “What’s wrong with him complimenting how your hair smells?” Furious, she snarls, “He’s a midget!”

Joke Three Doctor, “What seems to be the problem?” Patient, “Doc, I’ve got the farts. I mean I fart all the time,” The Doctor nods, “Hmm.” Patient, “My farts do not stink and you can’t hear them. It’s just that I fart all the time. Look, we’ve been talking here for about 10 minutes and I’ve farted five times. You didn’t hear them and you don’t smell them, do you?” “Hmm,” says the Doctor, He picks up his pad and writes out a prescription. The patient is thrilled “Great doc. This prescription, will it really clear up my farts?” “No,” sighs the Doctor, “The prescription is to clear your sinuses. Next week I want you back here for a hearing test.”

Joke Four

A strong young man at the construction site was bragging that he could outdo anyone in a feat of strength. He made a special case of making fun of Morris, one of the older workmen. After several minutes, Morris had enough. “Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is?” he said. “I will bet a week’s wages that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow over to that outbuilding that you won’t be able to wheel back.” “You’re on, old man,” the braggart replied. “It’s a bet! Let’s see what you got.” Morris reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles. Then, nodding to the young man, he said, “All right. Get in.”

Joke Five When I was younger I hated going to weddings... it seemed that all of my aunts and the grandmotherly types used to come up to me, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, “You’re next.” They stopped that shit after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

REAL DEAL COMEDY JAM EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED... The last tour was off the chain, mother nature tried to throw us off with a bizarre ash cloud. But even that couldn’t stop us, this is showbiz so the show must go on. All the comedians on the bill were first class none of them let us down, I must say I was really impressed. The highlight for me was comedian Littleman who was our opening act. For some strange reason I expected him to be not as good as he actually turned out to be. In fact he actually got stronger as the tour went on. It’s always brings me great pleasure to showcase new UK talent.

This is the first time I’ve written in the RDCJ magazine so I thought I should give you an insight into my philosophy on the brand. I want anyone who comes to a Real Deal Comedy Jam to leave feeling amazed by our forward thinking production and comfortable that they have received great value for their money. To achieve this we incorporate a surprise element into every Real Deal Comedy Jam show, just to keep you guys on your toes. Our next tour will be Christmas/New Years. Unfortunately we will be losing our favourite host Kat to pantomime, but we have already found a replacement who will be sure to excite you guys over the festive period. So as always with the Real Deal Comedy Jam expect the unexpected. Samuel Nelson (JEP, Director)

WILLIS?”

80’s ICON PASSES AWAY

Diff’rent Strokes proved to be somewhat of a curse to the kids that stared in the series. Arnold (Gary Colemen), Willis (Todd Bridges) and Kimberly (Dana Plato).

Another childhood star passed away on May 28th 2010. 80’s TV star from Diff’rent Strokes Gary Coleman died after suffering a brain haemorrhage after a fall. It marks the end of a tragic life of a man that brought joy to so many of us whilst playing Arnold from 1978 until 1986. Gary Wayne Coleman was born in 1968 in Illinois USA. By the time he was 10 he was one of televisions hottest properties. He starred in TV sitcom Diff’rent Strokes which portrayed two young African American brothers who were adopted by a wealthy white widower in Manhattan. Gary was often described in the press as one of televisions most promising stars. Due to his small size a mere 4ft 8in and child like appearance 10 year old Gary played Arnold in 1978, a child much younger than his actual age. This was part of the humour as he’d say things that a child of Arnold’s age just would not say. Arnold was the star of the show with his famous punch-line “Whatchu talking bout Willis”. Diff’rent Strokes proved to be somewhat of a curse to the kids that stared in the series Arnold (Gary Colemen), Willis (Todd Bridges) and Kimberly (Dana

Plato). After the series ended Gary Coleman went on to sue his adopted parents for mismanagement of his finances. After settlement Gary was left bankrupt and worked as a security guard at a shopping mall. His 4 million dollars fortune had vanished. Dana Plato (Kimberly) became a drug addicted alcoholic and died at the young age of 34 in 1999. Todd Bridges (Willis) became a drug addict but later turned his life around and still works in the entertainment industry. When you think of Gary Coleman its hard not to think of him as Arnold the cute little funny kid from Harlem. Maybe that association actually ruined his life. Do you think he ever got away from he famous punch-line? I doubt it. Gary Coleman’s story is yet another case of a child star who’s life was affected in a negative way by fame too early without an affective support structure to help make the transition from childhood to adulthood in front of the world. His life will go down as yet another tragic story. RIP Gary Coleman 1968 - 2010 (Died age 42)

WORLD CUP

RB REVIEW

IS DONKEY!

“What do you call an Englishman in the

last 16 of the 2010 World Cup? A referee” Without doubt Spain were the best team in the 2010 FIFA world cup. Even though they started the tournament with a dodgy defeat to Switzerland in my opinion they were the best TEAM by far. Now I’ve highlighted the word team because that is exactly how they won it, as a team. They fought for every single ball and worked hard for each other. This should be a standard requirement I know. No one player was more important than another. Brilliant players, excellent attitudes it was my pleasure to see Spain play. If I’m honest I actually wished I was Spanish lol Loved it. Didn’t South Africa do a good job. All the talk before the World Cup about the stadiums wouldn’t be finished and that they weren’t organised, and who could forget all the drama that they were highlighting about crime etc. The one thing that did annoy me though was the Vuvuzelas, my god were they annoying. But it’s there culture to blow them horns no stop through a game so what right does anyone have to tell them how they should watch a football game in there own country. Great job South Africa. 10/10

26

www.rdcj.net

Overall, I thought this world cup was good with many twists and surprises. I’ve heard the press say that the football was below standard but I just think that they focus too much on England who quite clearly were below standard. I was a little disappointed with the performances of the African nations. OK Ghana were quite clearly robbed when Suarez of Uruguay cheated with his own version of the hand of god. But what happened to the others Ivory Coast, Cameron, Nigeria and South Africa. All big football nations but very much below standard. I heard that the Nigerian government was so annoyed by there performance that they banned the players from International football for a year or something. Now that is a little over the top don’t you think? After all isn’t it only a game? Stand out players for me were. David Villa (Spain), Xavi (Spain), Forlan (Uraguay), Ozil (Germany), Thomas Muller (Germany), Suarez (Uraguay), Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands), Robben (Netherlands), Maicon (Brazil), Robinio (Brazil), Gyan (Ghana), Messi (Argentina) and Higuain (Argentina)

Real Deal Comedy Jammer Richard Blackwood is back where he belongs in the mainstream, after securing the role of Donkey in ‘Shrek the Musical’ the west end stage show.

He will be performing alongside ‘Britain’s got talent’s Amanda Holden who will be playing Fiona. This is a huge role as we all know that the main characters from the hit movies are Shrek, Donkey and Fiona. The rest of the cast are yet to be confirmed but I think we can expect some more familiar names. So, I for one am glad to see RB back amongst the A-listers. I’m sure he and the show will be a huge success. The Show officially opens on June 7th at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. You can find out more information on the website www.shrekthemusical.co.uk
