Common Writing Mistakes Every Student Should Avoid Writing is an inevitable part of a student’s life. They have to write several assignments that help them to gather the marks they aim to score. However, they fail to get full marks due to some mistakes that they make while working on a paper. Here are some very common writing mistakes that every student does:

1. Spelling errors- This usually happens when they use homophones. Due to this, students cannot convey the correct message. 2. Punctuation mistakes- Another mistake that students often make is the incorrect usage of punctuation. This usually happens due to a lack of knowledge about sentences and fragments. 3. Wrong use of verb- Students also struggle with using the correct verb form and the reason behind this is their lack of knowledge on tenses. 4. Run-on sentences- Students forget to use the connecting punctuation when a coordinating conjunction connects two or more independent clauses. This becomes a runon sentence, and students lose marks.

5. Wordiness- Many students often use too many words to convey a message that ultimately makes it impossible for the readers to understand the message. 6. Incorrect usage of words- It is also seen that students use the wrong word in place of another word. This changes the meaning of the sentence. You should proofread your assignments. 7. Sentence formation- Students also make mistakes while creating a sentence. They often make a sentence fragment that misses a verb or a subject. 8. Wrong word count-It is equally important to match the word count as mentioned in the instructions. Students can use word counter to check the number of words used in their copy. 9. Squinting modifiers- Students often place the modifier in the wrong place in a sentence. This is when the meaning becomes ambiguous or confusing. 10. Long sentences- While writing, students should make their answer crisp and easy to understand. When they use long sentences, it often becomes difficult to understand the meaning of the text. Students should always check their copy after writing. It is also suggested to use a plagiarism checker to make sure the content is completely original.
